  1. I was going to write a devil's advocate type of response but I...am having a hard time. The future certainly doesn't look as bright these days.
  2. I cant bring myself to read this article right now https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/christian-yelich-brewers-playoffs
  3. Luckily the Cubs will have WC1 all sewn up by Sunday so we can watch this game without conflict.
  4. Haha what if the Cubs finished tied with the Brewers? Well they would lose their off day to play them on Monday at Wrigley. If they lose that they’d have to turn around and play the Wild Card game the next day. If they win that they get their second day off in 7 weeks before the NLDS.
  5. Almost everything had to go right for them and wrong for us for them to maybe end up just 1-2 games better when it’s all said and done. This thing isn’t over. Baseball is stupid and it can turn fast for both teams. Yeah crazier things have happend but you could hardly choose a worse end to the season than the Brewers getting their weekly off day then traveling home for 3 against the hapless nothing to play for Tigers while the Cubs soldier on exhausted with 1 more against the above .500 Pirates and 3 against a team fighting for their playoff lives
  6. Crap this sets up Lester to start a potential WC game doesn’t it? Damn if the WC game was on Wednesday we could start Hendricks but since it’s Tuesday that’s not going to happen
  7. Yeah but nothing surprising about that. We have a below average offense led by a hitting coach actively trying to destroy it. Anyone can shut us down and many will
  8. By the time this season is over the Cubs will have hit 50+ less HRs this year than last year with pretty much the same roster of hitters
  9. Cardinals have the go ahead run at the plate right now. Too bad it’s 2 outs and the batter is Gyorko
  10. Whatever Bote is, it is a better team right now with him in the lineup. Bryant has had a .730 OPS since coming off the DL. Bote has had an OPS of around .550 since mid-August Edit: just checked my work, Bote is 14 for his last 101 and has an OPS of .511 since August 16 Second Edit: Bryant has a .756 OPS since coming off the DL
  11. If the Cubs get shut out tonight they will have averaged 1.7 runs per game over their last 10 games at Wrigley
  12. Remember those articles about how mad Theo gets when things aren’t going well? I can’t imagine how he is handling this
  13. If the Cubs get shut out tonight they will have averaged 0.83 runs per game in their last 6 games against the Pirates. That’s.....hard to do
  14. My other thought is..after 40 scheduled games in 41 days, instead of a 3 day break that the team so desperately needs, we’d be stuck with one day off before playing for our lives and then if we win another day off before the NLDS. Meanwhile the already well rested Brewers would get as many days off in a row as we have had in the last 45 days
  15. I say we give as many regular starters the day off tomorrow as you can. Don’t even have them come to the ballpark. Worst case we are 1/2 game back which we can make up on Thursday. Then we just have to beat the Cardinals more than the Brewers beat the *checks Brewers schedule* oh Jesus Christ the Tigers??!!
  16. I was told we were mocking the Brewers by calling them vaunted and that they had no chance to win the division and I was a ninny for being at all concerned.
  17. Ok so have to win today to prevent things from getting very nerve wracking.
  18. Of course we don’t score. Why would we score runs in a baseball game
  19. The problem I see is that for us to blow the division we’d probably need to lost 2 or 3 of our weekend games to STL which would make it really hard for the Rockies to pass them
  20. When are they going to announce the winners for the postseason ticket lottery? Not that we want this but there could be a game a week from today at Wrigley.
  21. I know I'm not the only one that has been lamenting throughout the year how frustrating this season as been at times. And it doesn't make sense on the surface. With 6 days left in the regular season we have the best record in the NL, second best RD, our starting pitching is rounding into form, Javy is the most exciting player and a legit MVP candidate. And yet...if you look at the game threads, even in games we win it seems like we are in last place. Something to me just seems....missing with this team and I can't completely put my finger on why. Just wanted to get the board's thoughts. Maybe I and others are just being ninnys, or spoiled brats, or bad fans or whatever.
  22. Yeah the offense is so disappointing after all the resources we spent on it over the last several years. I am completely dumbfounded that we can hit as poorly as we have over a 2.5 month span. Bryant’s injury plays a big part I get it but overall they just aren’t hitting. Strange thing is we’ve seen a breakout year by Javy, Rizzo has been Rizzo save the first 6 weeks of the year, Zobrist has had a bounce back season, Heywards numbers overall have improved over 16 and 17, Schwarber has put up solid numbers overall. I guess what’s killing is huge regressions by Willson, whatever is turning Bryant from a .900 OPS hitter to a .750 OPS hitter and lack of development/regression by Happ and Almora
  23. Remember when the Cubs used to work the count night after night. Yep, good things happens when your team gets on base a lot due to BBs. 2016 Walk rate: 10.3% 2017 Walk rate: 9.9% 1st half 2018 walk rate: 9.7% 2nd half 2018 walk rate: 7.9% #chilieffect?
  24. 5 straight games against the Pirates with only a solo HR. Hilarious
  25. The offense has been atrocious or inconsistent since the break. That’s how. Is that .707 team OPS since the break bad?
