  1. He’s like the natural evolution of Vance back in the day with regards to obsessive fandom but I don’t doubt that he might have an inside source. And he’s doesn’t seem like someone who would maliciously troll (though it’s possibly with how it’s cryptically worded that he may be misleading twitterdom)
  2. :-k :-k [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. Yeah, Tommy Boy. I’m sure your bank accounts are all tapped out. It’s all tied up in a Trump 2020 Super PAC
  4. Theo is being so under the radar that even the teams owner is out of the loop on this.
  5. Obviously boras made the call to Theo. Anyone want to guess which day this week the introductory press conference is held at Sloan Park?
  6. Now comes Theo to swoop in and save the day
  7. Yankees would be even better. Sign a 1 year $30m deal, launch 55 HRs and watch your value skyrocket
  8. Unless there's some obscure company I'm unaware of with those initials, those are from Jon Lester's foundation, though it's an odd crossover considering the foundation is for pediatric cancer. Yeah, maybe Lester should design some new shorts or something. Schwarber has worn those shorts in pretty much every Spring Training/Workout photo taken since 2015.
  9. Well, no. But then that wasn’t exactly my prediction. I was thinking more what was said on the previous page, largely because it's something I've been worried about watching Rizzo last season. Rizzo after April last year: .905 OPS That said you can't just ignore his horrific slump (historically he's had at least 1 horrific slump every season), but seems like a good thing that it came earlier in the year and he was able to bounce back fully. He might be on the decline but I think he's still pretty close to peak Rizzo at this point. Hope I'm right
  10. -Either the Cardinals or Brewers will vastly underachieve. -Rizzo finally breaks the 33 HR/110 RBI barrier and finishes ~35/120 -We get at least 1.5 wins from a player that starts the season in the Cubs minor league system -One of these players is not a Cub by the end of the season: Montgomery, Schwarber, Almora, Happ, Bote
  11. Remember when projections (not necessarily PECOTA but others) had the Cubs winning like 105 games a couple of years ago?
  12. On a semi-releated note, I WOULD pay $5,000 or more to temporarily view the alternate reality of a Trump presidency just to see how messed up things would get. so about that Ok I'm done viewing, how do I pay my $5,000 and return to reality?
  13. lol....
  14. i think it makes sense to start your transition to the next goalie now rather than later regardless of whether they are trying to win or not. If we can save $2-3m by trading Crawford for a smaller contract, that is pretty valuable for the Hawks in improving the team for next season. I guess my thoughts are based on an optimistic outlook for Delia. I guess he does need more time before we can anoint him as starting goalie of the future. I can't imagine the situation where they can trade Crawford for a similar contract and save $2-3m at the same time. How about a $3m contract for 2 more years vs. Crawford's $5m for 1? I guess though in that case you can argue whether its worth it. I dunno, I'm just ready to start anew at goalie and I'm all about looking at ways the Hawks can clear cap space via trade.
  15. I think no matter what the Crawford era is done. Either he doesn't come back from this latest concussion or the Hawks find a way to unload him and save some salary. More likely the former than the latter. If he's not healthy, or he's not comfortable coming back, or whatever else related to his head, then thank him for his service, and wish him well. If he comes back this season or next and wants to give it a go, why not. He's got one year left on his deal at a fairly reasonable price, and I don't think anyone is sold on Delia unless he drags this team to the playoffs (which is far from likely). As long as Toews/Kane/Keith are around, this team has to go into the season trying to win now, and a healthy Crawford gives you the best chance going into next year. i think it makes sense to start your transition to the next goalie now rather than later regardless of whether they are trying to win or not. 17. I watched the first quarter of one of the games (partially doing something else) and the drop off in play was astounding to me. I probably didn't give it enough of a chance though.
  18. And there goes the little excitement I had for spring training
  19. I still want Dunn
  20. I'm drawing a blank now but I remember there being several options for an OF who can get on base and hit lefties well and they picked the one with the least track record and the one with by far the most character issues. That said, I remember being happy about it because I think he had the best 2008 season out of the options and I was more tone deaf to social issues at the time. Just looked it up. Got it backwards...they wanted a lefthanded power hitting OF. Options included: -Bradley (0.7 fWAR in 2009, 0.2 total for the rest of his career, 3 years) -Dunn (1.1 fWAR in 2009, 4.0 total for the rest of his career, 6 years) -Ibanez (3.4 fWAR in 2009, 2.7 total for the rest of his career, 6 years) -Abreu (2.7 fWAR in 2009, 5.1 total for the rest of his career, 5 years) None of them were great long term options (Dunn and Ibanez both had -2+ fWAR seasons in either 2010 or 2011) but Bradley ended up the worst of the options for 2009. The Cubs finished 7.5 games out of a playoff spot so it likely wouldn't have mattered but we really f'ed that one up.

  22. Yeah, I didn't think they were going to, but a pretty big relief to have it confirmed. I was bracing for impact on this one so I'm happy to see him sign with another team. Now we're just left with the lingering resentment that signing him was even a consideration.
  23. I still can't believe the Milton Bradley saga was a thing that actually happened.
