  1. I have absolutely zero desire to have the Cubs play a game right now. Why can't a random thunderstorm show up out of nowhere to wash it away?
  2. yeah I can understand that it was frustrating. maybe if it was a normal season I'd have cared more. But everything about that season seemed so fake I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on.
  3. I wasn't frustrated at all. For one, the entire season felt fake. Plus the offense had really struggled down the stretch of the season so I wasn't surprised that they struggled. If they played 162 games, I don't think the Cubs win the Central, so it didn't suck as much to me.
  4. So winning the World Series is the best case scenario? What more is there? lol
  5. I mean the Diamondbacks went to the World Series in 2023 with an 84-78 record. Cardinals won it with an 83-78 record. Yes those are exceptions but it's absolutely a weighted crapshoot. Yes the best teams will have slightly better odds but every playoff team has a legitimate shot if they are playing well.
  6. Would have been nice to see some fight offensive but nope 3 up 3 down. I’m posting this before the last out is made, just assuming
  7. This does have a 2023 feel to it. We were so hot especially offensively from like mid-June through early-August 2023, we looked like the most dangerous offense in the league. Then the offense trailed off the pen imploded and we missed the playoffs by a game
  8. Are you referring to the play that single handedly kept the Cubs out of the playoffs as they would have made it if he caught it on the fly? That one was even more impactful than Seiya's drop in Atlanta. Cubs still miss the playoffs if they win that game, but they make it if they go 2-5 against Arizona instead of 1-6
  9. At this point, the 5 game series is an advantage for Milwaukee. Yes the opportunity is there to win 5 straight and gain 5 games. It's more likely than winning the actual lottery but less likely than the Bulls winning the draft lottery in one of their 40-42 seasons. if the Brewers lose 3 of 5, they knock 5 games off the schedule and only lose a game in the standings (and lose the tiebreaker I guess). If they go 3-2, 4-1 or 5-0 they obviously benefit. Cubs only make a dent if they go 4-1 or 5-0
  10. Crazy thing is, the Red Sox were also given a ton of crap for not fixing their holes at the deadline, but they're 21-6 in their last 27 and have won 7 in a row.
  11. I've luckily hit that point where I'm not even upset when the Cubs lose. 6-9 in their last 15, I guess the losses don't have as much impact on me.
  12. Don’t feel great about Shota facing the middle of the Reds order for a 3rd time at over 90 pitches but I guess you have to stretch them sometimes after essentially a bullpen game
  13. Man I don’t think I’ve ever seen a run like the Brewers are on. They aren’t just winning nightly, they’re usually up multiple runs within the first couple innings and don’t give it back. The dodgers had a hotter stretch in 2018 but still this is wild
  14. Season back on: Just a reminder he has a 12.66 ERA this year, -0.7 bWAR and has last 2 appearances for the Cubs: 5 ER in 2 IP vs Seattle 3 ER in 0.1 IP vs San Diego
  15. But shouldn't the fact that most good teams are playing poorly right now besides the Brewers emphasize that this stuff happens over the course of a season? Even the magical Brewers played sub-500 baseball the first 6 weeks. Yeah this isn't the 2016 Cubs, but they don't have to be. Just make it in, be hot when the playoffs start and we'll see what happens.
  16. Also - they're cursed...except for the one year that they randomly weren't
  17. Maybe sit him tomorrow with the off day Thursday to give him 2 straight days off, but then again we're facing a tough lefty in Abbott so tough to leave him out of the lineup even if he's been awful. Unfortunately there's not a lot of great options, he just needs to figure it out again. He's always been pretty streaky so hopefully he's at the tail end of his slump and ready to bust out again.
  18. Just sucks because if the Cubs were in any other division in baseball they'd at least be tied for 1st (percentage points ahead). But because they are in a division with a team that has won 76% of their games since late May, everything feels like it's falling apart even though it's really not. They're in a slump but they literally just won a series 2 days ago (1 pitch from sweeping) and have won 2 of their last 3 series overall. They definitely have holes/issues and the deadline was a disappointment but it's not as bad as it feels at this point.
