  1. The Phillies do want to make the playoffs right? As much as I'm laughing at this, I'm also just like stunned that the phillies are completely flatlining in a critical series.
  2. I do it to honor Fred
  3. It is what it is. Yes they are hurting their draft position for very little short-term gain but man Chicago sports is in dire straights so its nice to get a little endorphin boost every once in awhile. Chicago sports is in dire straights because all their teams refuse to tank or refuse to be good, like the Cubs are doing now But me taking pleasure in wins doesn't affect that at all. I am not going to be miserable just to be miserable because my favorite team is winning too much. And to be honest while I understand the value and importance of a high MLB draft pick, I'm impulsive and impatient so its hard for me to be upset about not getting a player that won't be a factor for potentially several years. If this was the NFL and a stud QB was there at the number 1 pick and the Bears could clinch it with a loss, I'm happily rooting for a loss and crying if they win. I just don't feel the same way about tanking in baseball. I agree that its beneficial but it doesn't bother me too much if they accidently win too much.
  4. I just read that all of the Brewers remaining games are at home and all of the Phillies remaining games are on the road. They just lost 2 straight with their best pitchers on the mound who will only be able to go 1 more time this year. They're cooked

  6. Brewers are winning 2-1 late in their game as well. Phillies fans have to be getting a bit nervous at this point.
  7. Obligatory game thread
  8. I have to be honest, this looks pretty horsefeathering cool Another venue competing with Soldier Field and AH for concerts I guess
  9. Yeah for as bad as Soldier Field's turf has been I don't recall too many random injuries that can be blamed on the turf (though I could be wrong). Giants Stadium turf is always good for a couple devastating injuries a year.
  10. ^ lol For as bad as everyone says Javy is now, he's still worth about 2 wins this year. Granted its almost all defensively and there are concerns about the bat moving forward but some people are acting like Javy is the worst player in baseball this year.
  11. This is awesome but I'm still unclear how telling pass block win rate is. It seems like a stat that should be very telling but I keep seeing Bears players with high win rates but also see Fields getting pressured more than any QB in the league.
  12. i generally agree with the sentiment but this thread basically exists because the white sox pulled a 75 year old guy who hadn't managed in 10 years and just had a DUI arrest out of mothballs and tasked him with managing their team just as its window was opening (and renteriad renteria again). it was absolutely bonkers at the time and i still have a hard time believing it actually happened. it's possibly the most reinsdorf thing that ever reinsdorfed. Oh I agree, the need for the OP was definitely there and its been hilarious laughing at how bad the move turned out. I've been trying to put non-LaRussa Sox things in the General Baseball Thread. It's definitely not a big deal that its converted into a general White Sox post, I just had to say my piece lol.
  13. I hate having a dedicated White Sox post. Makes us look like we care about the Sox beyond observing the curious and sometimes idiotic things they do. If we have a White Sox post we should at least have a dedicated Brewers post too. ill get off my soapbox now
  14. No I think the Sox plan is to convince the fanbase that all they need is a new manager to get them back on track, not spending more money in FA. If he can spend $4m for a Bochy/Maddon type and keep the stands adequately filled, its better than spending $20m a year on like Trea Turner to get the same return on attendance.
  15. The Cubs have gone 15-4 against the NL East since the ASB. 4-0 vs. PHI 3-0 vs. NYM 4-2 vs. MIA 4-2 vs. WAS
  16. After saying goodbye to Willson several times already this year, Cubs fans get to say goodbye to him another final time this week as he was activated from the IL and in the lineup tonight. Also inexplicably returning to the lineup for the last 9 games are Nico and Seiya. Also we get to welcome back Schwarbs and Castellanos
  17. They're totally hiring Joe Maddon
  18. How much should we take away from pre-WC friendlies? I'm guessing if there were ever friendlies to take anything away from its these ones right? Not encouraging at all but not quite 'we're 100% doomed'?
  19. FWIW, the Bears are wearing the all navy blue uniform set in Week 18 against the vikings. I can only remember them wearing Navy/Navy 3 other times, all losses to the Packers: 2017, 2006 and 2002
  20. I'm sure its fine and they were just being cautious an- damn
  21. In my mind, I've accepted Lonzo is never playing for the Bulls again. If he does, great. But until there is some clarity on whats going wrong, I cannot pretend like we will see him this year (or next).
  22. Not a huge fan but I hate the bright orange jerseys more, which I believe will be coming in a couple of weeks. The Bears wore their traditional home uniforms for week 1, but don't play in them again until week 9
  23. Their depth chart lists Richie James, Wan'Dale Robinson and David Sills as their starting WRs. Weird because Toney, Golladay and Slayton are still on the roster but they all appear to be in the doghouse.
  24. finally some good luck for my fantasy team. I think he'll have a big game, and Daniel Jones has been running a ton too with a lot of success. Shepard left the game on a stretcher yesterday so I doubt he'll be playing. Toney and Galloday have both been in the doghouse big time this year but I'm sure one of them will have an opportunity to step up. Regardless of how Barkley does, the Giants have still struggled to put points on the board this year so we definitely have a shot at winning this one IMO. Giants are favored by 2.5 at home which means they basically see these teams as equal (not sure if or how Vegas adjusts for short weeks, that may take 0.5 points off the line)
