On the plus side Wicks might be able to get through 6 if the Cubs want to stretch him a bit. What is his pitch count limit, 75?

Definitely doesn't look as sharp as the last 2 games, given up some solid contact but it hasnt hurt him thus far. Thankfully the Cubs have a 6 run lead to take some of the pressure off of him.

Great to see Amaya get one after struggling for awhile.

Goal should be of course to have a 5 game lead or something going into that final Milwaukee series, but if we can at least be within 1 game, the winner of that series will take the division

FWIW, Rivas misread a catchable foul ball one pitch earlier and couldn't come up with it which could have ended the game.

Brewers leadoff man got on. 2nd guy drilled one that the RF had to make a leaping play to thankfuly catch. Let's see Yellich get another GIDP in a big 9th inning situation.

There has to be some effect on Dansby playing every game but I guess as long as it doesn't affect his defense too much you have to just live with the fact that he's old school like that.

All true. As I've said I'm not that upset about his lack of role. But I'd love to see him get an AB at some point. Heck maybe even a medium leverage AB in a situation where the matchup favors him...sometimes young guys have immediate success in the MLB as an unknown entity before the league gets a book on them. Or he could come up there and swing at 3 terrible pitches and have anyone wondering why a most established player wasn't batting there. Just never know I guess.

Haha if I recall correctly, Giants fans really wanted Seiya and expected him to sign there. They must have loved seeing that happen last night.

Just looked up "Phantom Ballplayers". There have been 2 players this decade who were placed on a roster for a longer period of time than Canario without playing (and then getting sent back down) In 2021, pitcher Miguel Romero was called up by the A's on Sept 8. He was optioned down to the minors on Sept 21st without appearing in a game. Also in 2021, pitcher Steven Fuentes was called up by the Nationals on April 20 and sent back down on April 30 without playing. Seems like the longest a position player stayed on a roster without playing is 5 days.

This was sort of discussed in yesterday's game thread. A day game after night game during a grueling part of the schedule (27 games in 27 days with the 1 off day and a doubleheader), makes sense to work in some of the bench guys I guess. I'm not a big fan of Wisdom being on the roster but if he's here he's occasionally gonna get starts. Amaya by virtue of being the only backup catcher now is naturally going to play on a day like today. Morel is still struggling but maybe that jack last night gets him going. Belli and Seiya are still in the lineup and hey Dansby is 5 for this last 13 so maybe he's snapping out of it a bit.
