  1. Not necessarily. Theoretically Tom doesn’t care how much dead money is on the payroll as long as Jed stays on budget. Yes it’s possible Tom has given Jed a 2024 budget high enough to not have to worry about the $10m owed to Mancini and Barnhart next year but it’s also possible that these are moves Jed had to make for this year and he’ll pay for it when constructing next years roster. it’s probably more of the former than the latter as it seems inevitable the Cubs will go into the tax next season.
  2. This is crazy, albeit League 2 crazy. Wrexham was down 4-1 at the half, managed to equalize 5-5 on the final play after a free kick deflects back to a Wrexham player for the goal. Also Tim Ream got a red card today lol
  3. Pretty sure Barnhart caught a lot of Stroman starts. Guess that’s why he’s not needed anymore. as TT eluded to, Tucker is owed 3.25m next year
  4. Well its official everyone we wanted to lose tonight won. There'd be days like this mama said..but she didn't tell me they would involve losing to the Royals.
  5. Supposed to be gaining ground during this stretch not losing it haha
  6. Brewers now lead 6-4, Marlins up 1-0. Not shaping up to be a great day for our Cubs
  7. Reds win on a walkoff HR so the Cubs fall 1 GB the Wild Card. Rangers have a slim lead over the Brewers
  8. I know it’s preseason but the Panthers look like complete trash so far lol why don’t we draft Caleb Williams and then just alternate series with him and Fields or maybe keep him as a backup in case Fields gets hurt?
  9. Doesnt sound promising. He also says he has no idea how he injured it which seems odd. Something doesn’t seem right about this whole thing. Stroman is a strange cat but seems bizarre even for him to walk up to the press box during a game to tell reporters about his injury. Is it possible he got hurt in an unusual way or there’s some sort of disagreement behind the scenes about what’s going on?
  10. I pointed that out at the end but guessing you didn’t read all the way or couldn’t help yourself and pointed it out anyways. Let me rant as part of my emotional comedown please lol. Regardless of what date they started on, they are all in the middle of struggling right now. Gomes is the only one my arbitrary starting point might be unfair since he had 2 hits today and might be coming out of it
  11. One loss to the Royals isn’t the end of the world, it’s more about the continuing trend of offensive struggling. This is a game that the Cubs easily win if the offense is performing even average. These slumps can last all month like they did in May or it could be over tomorrow. That’s part of what makes it frustrating.
  12. Slump tracker: Morel - 4 for his last 44 (.090) Happ - 5 for his last 32 (.156) Bellinger - 2 for his last 15 (.133) Swanson - 3 for his last 32 (.094) Gomes - 5 for his last 32 (.156) Madrigal - 2 for his last 18 (.111) Wisdom - 5 for his last 36 (.139) Amaya - 3 for his last 21 (.142) Tauchman - 1 for his last 13 (.076) Barnhart - 2 for his last 12 (.167) Hoerner, Seiya and Candelario are doing fine Also I realize there are a billion things you can pick apart about this including using a variety of arbitrary starting points for all these slumps, I don't care, I recognize it but I'm not in the mood lol
  13. Bellinger now in a 2 for 15 stretch our 3 runs were scored on an error and 2 well placed ground balls. That’s the best we could manage hitting against pitchers with ERAs all over 4
  14. Pathetic offensive performance after a week of mostly poor offensive performances. Bats need to figure it out quickly. Doesn’t matter what team you are playing, if you can’t hit you’re gonna have a tough time winning. thank you Morel for saving us from going 0-3 at home against 2 teams a combined 70 games under .500
  15. I believe this board prefers the term ‘ninnies’
  16. I’ve never been able to handle the fact that in baseball players and teams are just going to slump throughout the season and there’s little you can do about it. It’s insanely frustrating every time it happens.
  17. Can the Cubs hit the guy with the 5.87 ERA?
  18. Nelly 0-3, Cuas a scoreless inning. Cubs win the trade?
  19. I know I’m just wallowing in my pessimistic crap so feel free to ignore but this sort of feels like the May offense all over again.
  20. Of course earlier in the game the ump wasn’t calling that outside pitch and now he is
  21. Wtf was that Happ. Took strike 3 last AB then strikes out on a bad pitch this AB
  22. Let’s see if we can hit the guy with the 8.32 ERA
  23. Struck out 5 of the last 7 batters he faced his 3rd time through the order
