  1. Like I mentioned earlier, what really kicked off that huge run that got us into the playoff race was a game against the Nationals when the Cubs were scuffling coming into the game (5-9 last 14) and piled it on in the late innings of a blowout win. From that point the Cubs went on a 15-4 run to put them firmly into the heart of the playoff race
  2. Cubs are now 10-1 against the Pirates and 69-71 against everyone else Pirates are now 1-10 against the Cubs and 69-71 against everyone else
  3. After 8 long days the Chicago Cubs have won a baseball game.
  4. I was thinking today, baseball is a strange sport with strange things happening all the time but I think the Cubs would need a 2 game lead after this homestand for me to feel ok about their chances. They will end the night 0.5 games up. 5 more to go.
  5. Lets bring on a position player to close this out
  6. Hey the last time the Cubs had a bad stretch of play, it ended when we crushed the Nationals in that one game and kicked off the hottest month of our season where the offense pretty much never slumped
  7. Great job leaving him on the bench for 3 weeks Ross. GRAND SLAM
  8. PCA walks to bring up Canario *sniff* its so beautiful
  9. Damn, at least 1 person in the 8th needs to get a hit to get PCA up. Of the Cubs could blow it but I'd rather them not go that route.
  10. Oof, Canario commits an out without even being up to bat.
  11. Typically not sustainable to get into trouble and out of it repeatedly lol. The results were good and even more impressive for me was how he battled back and got in a bit of a grove his last 2 innings.
  12. So the Marlins won, Reds lost and Diamondbacks are winning 5-2. If we finish this game we’d be in WC3 0.5 games ahead of Miami, 1 game ahead of Cincinnati and 0.5 games behind Arizona (assuming they win)
  13. Belli 1 for his last 14. I bet he’d really like his season OPS to be over .900 for FA purposes but he’ll have to heat up now to get there.
  14. Wow can’t believe they sent Wisdom, can’t believe even more that he scored
  15. Dansby’s HR had a .220 xBA and would only be a HR at Wrigley Field. About time we had some luck go our way.
  16. Brilliant move by Ross to put Canario in the lineup on a day that the game is rained out so people stop complaining. (The game hasn’t be rained out and probably won’t but looks like delay will last a while)
  17. Corner IFs are dropping like flies So thats Fulmer, Alzolay, Candelario and Madrigal now. Am I missing anyone else? I believe the earliest Candelario can be activated is Thursday, but given that its a back injury and he was struggling with it for a while I wouldn't count on it.
  18. Great now the complaints can change from "Why won't Ross play Canario?" to "Why is Canario starting after getting 1 AB in the last 3 weeks?" Not sure Swanson hitting 2nd is better than hitting 5th but maybe his approach to ABs is different hitting 2nd and he can get it together.
  19. Yes, in the final game of the Giants series. Since the Cubs are 2-8 since then, it had to be the wedding in the bleachers
  20. Yeah definitely, the luck probably evens out. We tend to forget about the wins like the 1-0 Milwaukee win or the Bellinger deflects GW hit off the Brewers pitcher, or Happ throws out 2 runners at the plate in Milwaukee, or Tauchman robbing a walkoff, etc etc and only focus on when we lost because a ball deflects off our pitcher. Those Reds games just stick with me because it was back-to-back days with a lead in the 9th inning and either one not only puts us 2 games farther from them in the standings but clinches the tiebreaker. If the Cubs miss the playoffs there are a shitload of games in September to point to but if they make it there are also a shitload of games all season to point to.
  21. I can't believe Cincinnati still has played 2 more games than us, they're gonna have a lot of rest down the stretch and an easy schedule. Man I wish we didn't blow those 2 games in Cincinnati. Life is slightly easier if we win even one of them.
