  1. How many players do the Bears have that are top 10 in the league at their position? 0? Maybe Edmunds? I think Jaylen Johnson is underrated but not sure he's a top 10 corner. DJ Moore is good but I can easily name 10 WRs I like more. Way too soon to rip Poles for this draft but I remember there being quite a few headscratchers on draft night...hopefully his evaluations are right and they develop into good talents. This team has a lot more solid football players on it which should theoretically raise the floor of the team, but not as much the ceiling. And its hard to not have more solid football players when last year 60% of the roster were cast offs and practice squad caliber guys
  2. You risk losing him....or maybe it helps him realize that he's in a contract year and doesn't want his big payday to be a 1 year prove it deal after he's a healthy scratch the last 16 games of the season.
  3. PCA back in the lineup today but Wisdom and Amaya too. Expected Amaya with the day game but that might be a rough bottom 3 of the lineup (or maybe PCA will get it going with the bat!)
  4. Yeah the offense hasn't regularly looked the same since the Braves series, though they have had moments of competence. Breakdown using my favorite arbitrary start/endpoints ( i can see your eyes rolling): First 93 games of the season: .247/.325/.398/.722 Next 19 games of the season: .303/.376/.531/.907 Since then (34 games): .244/.308/.413/.721 Of course that first 93 games contained a hot streak to start the season, a terrible may, a middling June before starting the 19 game hot streak during the Nationals series in July. It's just a very streaky offense.
  5. Speaking of benching Claypool:
  6. Yeah, missed practice doesn't excuse the effort that we saw. What message does it send to the players when a guy was so blatantly loafing it during a game to the detriment of the team and gets to keep playing? Especially for a team with a coach that constantly talks about not loafing it on the field being one of his defining principles. If he's not held accountable the team will notice.
  7. I think the thing that drives me nuts is that we are making it so much harder on ourselves. Every team chasing us except the Giants has won the tiebreaker against us which is pretty damn significant in a tight race, and little things like losing back to back 9th inning leads against the Reds, or losing 3 straight 1 run games to the Marlins or losing 1-0 and then in extra innings on back to back days against the Diamondbacks are the reasons we don’t hold the tiebreaker against any of them. Other than the Giants we seem to save our most painful damaging losses for the teams that we most need to beat. *I realize we haven’t officially lost the tiebreaker to Arizona yet but it’s very likely
  8. I was looking at the numbers against their ****** starter and despite only 3 ER, they managed 9 hits and 2 walks in 5.1 IP, so they hit him pretty well. Why only 3 ER? Well giving them an out on the bases in 3 separate innings begins to explain that. -Instead of 1st and 3rd and 2 outs for Swanson in the 1st the inning was over. -Instead of a runner on 1st and 1 out in the 2nd, it became Madrigal hitting with the bases empty and 2 outs -Instead of a runner on 3rd with 0 outs in the 5th, it was bases empty 1 out and of course Nico singled later in the inning.
  9. I'm chalking this up as one of those "we're a good team not a great team" losses. Sometimes your taped and cobbled together pitching staff struggles to hold a bad offense down (obviously the offense needs to do more too). I see people on twitter saying the Dodgers or Braves would have rolled over Colorado. They probably would have. We're not the Braves or Dodgers. We might be able to beat one of them in a short series if hot but they are clearly superior teams.
  10. While true, you put yourself in that situation by walking or hitting the bases loaded. But yeah easily could have struck out and maybe they score 0 runs that inning. Either way, we're not playing good baseball right now and its frustrating as hell as we hit the final stretch.
  11. PHI 1.5 GA CHC -- ARI 2.0 GB --------- CIN 3,.0 GB SF 3.5 GB (if they finish their loss otherwise 2.5 GB) MIA 3.5 GB
  12. A dropped fly ball away from being 1-5 in our last 6 games. This team is not playing good baseball right now as a whole.
  13. Great decision Nico, take strike 3 with the game on the line lol
  14. OK Morel here's your chance. pitching coach is telling their pitcher "he's gonna swing for the fences 3 times, don't throw him anything near him"
  15. Tauchman PH for Gomes? Hmmm. I know he walks a lot so maybe a good call
  16. Thank God Thursday is finally an off day. I need a day off from these guys. It's been really fun at times but I need a day without the drama. Anyways, if the Guardians/Giants score holds (Guardians up 3-1 in the 7th) the Cubs will lose only 1/2 game off their playoff cushion and no ground on Arizona for WC2. But another opportunity to gain ground to make the last week more comfortable while playing the worst team in the National League
  17. Gotta love that the Rockies who are almost 40 games under .500 with 2 weeks left in the season went out of their way to activate KB from the IL in favor of playing younger guys, just so he could help the Rockies beat the Cubs. He has 3 RBI in a game the Rockies lead by 2
  18. 7-8-9 due up for the Cubs in the 9th. Thank god we had that comeback last night
  19. Also the guy with the go ahead hit last night
  20. And then Bellinger misses a HR by inches.
  21. Spectacular diving catch to rob Happ of a hit. horsefeatherss
  22. Taillon tomorrow and he already had his good start for the month
  23. Hate how we have to keep Palencia in there while down 1 at Coors field as he’s getting hit well because we have no other options
