  1. Oops nevermind the Brewers tied that one up too
  2. Need to win tonight otherwise things are going uncomfortably tight. So… -Marlins up 9-6 in the 8th -Phillies up 4-2 in the 6th -Reds up 5-3 in the 8th -Giants up 1-0 in the 4th But hey the Brewers are losing 3-0
  3. Had to say something. Now the Marlins have tied up the Braves and the Reds are up 5-3 now. Bad bad bad
  4. Greatly enjoying the Braves unbeatable offense mowing down our WC opponents until I realize that we have our own date with them coming up
  5. Damn, he must be banged up. At least he’s healthy enough to hit
  6. Braves tied up the Marlins at 4 Reds up 1-0 over the Mets. Our old friend Ortega just struck out with a runner on 3rd and 1 out. Once a Cub always a Cub
  7. Of course despite Cueto going and the Braves using their starters the Marlins are up 3-0
  8. Guess hes available out of the pen then. Wonder if they'll use live game action to get his arm warmed up or if they are just accepting that he will be a pen arm for now. At the very least he should be there to piggyback any of the starters if they struggle. Surprised its Palencia going down instead of Wesneski or Little. Guess they'd want another multi inning guy.
  9. I think it's a proven scientific fact that the best time to rest your starters if you are a top seed with HFA locked up is the 2nd to last series of the season. Not the 3rd to last, not the last. The 2nd to last. Source: Me
  10. With the Braves clinching the NL East yesterday, I kind of expected a hangover lineup tonight against the Marlins, but looks like most of their regulars are in there. Perhaps they are waiting until closer to the end of the year to rest guys, like maybe in the 2nd to last series of the season. Other relevant games tonight: 5:40 pm Braves at Marlins (3 GB) (Elder vs. Cueto) 6:10 pm Reds (2.5 GB) at Mets (Greene vs. Peterson) 7:10 pm Nationals at Brewers (4.5 GA) (Irvin at Miley) 7:15 pm Phillies (1.5 GA) at Cardinals (Nola vs. Thompson) 7:40 pm Giants (2.5 GB) at Rockies (Webb vs. Anderson)
  11. I remember that Washington team, I was living near Baltimore at the time and with no NFL team (Ravens came in 95) a lot of people jumped on their bandwagon including me (though Bears still #1). That team was pretty damn dominant....wouldnt have expected them to be higher than the 85 Bears though.
  12. Second this. You don't even need to go quite as far as Wolcott. I'm pretty sure anything west of Ravenswood south of Addison is legal parking. I almost always find a spot right by the pencil factory lofts on Ravenswood and Roscoe. I personally love walking from there because I get to walk through the neighborhood I lived in for 5 years (Roscoe and Greenview) and I've never been someone who minds walking. Also I could be wrong but I think its closer to just over 1 mile. Roscoe to Addison is 2 blocks. Ravenswood to Clark is about 7 blocks. 8 blocks = 1 mile in Chicago
  13. If you assume the Cubs still play poorly and lose all the series to the above .500 teams, get swept by the Braves, and win both series against the bad teams by the minimum amount, you still get to 6-9 ARI - 1-2 PIT - 2-1 COL - 2-1 ATL - 0-3 MIL - 1-2
  14. Would it help if I told you that on top of having to fly home from the East Coast after an 8 game road trip while the Cubs were off, Arizona is also playing on their 15th, 16th and 17th consecutive days? That stuff does matter. Doesn't guarantee anything but its an advantage for us.
  15. Again because I'm weird, here is how certain 3 team tiebreakers for 1 spot involving the Cubs would look like. Gonna leave off ARI since there's still a lot of fluidity and Philly because its still a long shot that the Cubs, Phillies and another team are fighting for WC3. CHC/CIN/SF: CHC is 5-1 vs. SF, 6-7 vs CIN, SF is 4-3 vs CIN. Since no team won the H2H over the other 2 teams, its best winning % against other opponents. Cubs would be 11-8, Giants 5-8, Reds 10-10 so the Cubs would win this tiebreaker CHC/CIN/MIA: CHC is 2-4 vs. MIA and 6-7 vs. CIN. MIA and CIN tied 3-3. Since no team won H2H over the other 2 teams, Cubs would be 8-11, MIA 7-5, CIN 10-9 so Miami would win this tiebreaker CHC/SF/MIA: CHC is 2-4 vs. MIA and 5-1 vs. SF. SF is 3-3 vs. MIA. Again goes to winning % against others. CHC is 7-5, SF is 4-8, MIA is 7-5. At this point it reverts to H2H between CHC and MIA and Miami would win this tiebreaker (if they are playing for 2 spots then the Cubs would also slide in as WC3 and Miami WC2) Looking at Arizona high level they are currently 3-1 vs. CHC (3 to play), 2-4 vs. MIA, 5-6 vs SF (2 to play), 3-4 vs. CIN
  16. Not disagreeing at all with your point at all but just for fun, this is the worst case scenario if the Cubs won 1 of 3 WC1 PHI 3.5 GA W2 CHC -- W3 SF -- (Cubs win tiebreaker) -------------------- ARI 0.5 GB CIN 0.5 GB MIA 1 GB LOL Please win more than 1 of 3 for my sanity Because I'm weird, best case scenario if the Cubs sweep WC1 CHC -- WC2 PHI 1.5 GB (lose tiebreak) WC3 ARI 5.5 GB (win tiebreak) -------------------- CIN 5.5 GB (lose tiebreak) SF 6.0 GB (win tiebreak) MIA 6.0 GB (lose tiebreak)
  17. Has he done anything tonight?
  18. Here is how the standings look after today relative to the Cubs position: WC1 - Philly 1..5 GA WC2 - Cubs -- WC3 -Giants (somehow) 2.5 GB (75-71 vs. 76-72 for the DBacks and Reds) ---------------- DBacks - 2.5 GB Reds - 2.5 GB Marlins - 3.0 GB This race of mediocre teams has been wild. There have been times in the last 4-5 weeks that all 4 of the teams chasing the Cubs looked to be fading away, and then they've all turned around and gone on runs to get back in it
  19. I guess the other advantage the Cubs have this series (or at least tomorrow) is that they have been in Phoenix since likely late last night and are chilling there now. The Diamondbacks just finished their game in NY and still have to fly back to Phoenix. They probably arent getting home until 1am local time.
  20. Logan Webb vs. Chase Anderson (6.30 ERA) tonight. For teams that aren't the Cubs, that's a very favorable matchup lol. I just cant believe we are even talking about the Giants. When they left Chicago they were essentially 7 GB the Cubs (6 games out and don't own the tiebreaker). If they win tonight they'll be 3 games out (2 GB without the tiebreaker)
  21. Clearly, they were both so tired from giving their best effort in shutting down the Cubs. Assuming the Mets hang on, the Cubs lead in the playoff race will essentially be 2.5 games. If the Giants win tonight the real lead is 2, but with the tiebreaker its really 3 games because they have to pass the Cubs. All things considered, it could be a lot worse. Cubs need to do their part now starting tomorrow.
  22. Marlins lose to the Brewers 4-2. Marlins drop to 3 GB the Cubs, Brewers are now 4.5 games ahead in the Central. DBacks and Mets are scoreless in the 4th inning. A DBacks win would put them 1.5 games behind the Cubs heading into our series, 2.5 with a loss. So out of the 4 games that matter today, the first 2 have gone our way (sort of with MIL/MIA). Unfortunately the last game we care about today is Logan Webb against Chase Anderson (6.30 ERA) and the Rockies. Giants win will put them 2 GB the Cubs, but really 3 GB since we own the tiebreaker. If they are the team that's closest to the playoff cutline, I am fine with that for now. They still have 7 games against the Dodgers and a couple against Arizona so not an easy road.
  23. Something I was thinking about with regards to Bellinger. The Cubs are giving PCA a shot now because they believe he's an MLB player now. They have Happ entrenched in LF and Seiya in RF. Bellinger has been great about playing 1B this year because the Cubs have needed a 1B, but I wonder how he actually feels about playing 1B long-term? Obviously, as he ages the chances of him staying at CF decrease but I'd imagine he'd be more comfortable in an OF position long-term. Or maybe he's completely fine playing 1B the rest of his career, not sure.
