  1. Stroman starting tomorrow per Ross. This and Monday's off day gives them probably a lot of options for how they can configure their rotation the rest of the season. Stroman can pitch Friday against the Brewers and then in Game 2 of a potential Wild Card round. Steele would miss the WC round unless he's not needed on Sunday.
  2. yay we win. go 5-3 the rest of the way and I think they have a 50-50 shot of getting in If they go 5-3, at least 2 of these things needs to happen to eliminate the Cubs: -Marlins go 6-3 or better -Reds go 6-2 or better -Diamondbacks go 4-5 or better
  3. Walk Bellinger to get to Dansby at your own peril!
  4. The one extremely important thing about the Cubs winning today (besides the Cubs winning) is that it means the Brewers can NOT clinch the Central tonight. At best they'll be 8 up with 8 to play. This means the Brewers will play their starters tonight and tomorrow. Sunday might be rough for them though. Important of course because the Brewers are playing the Marlins and this is the last series against a team over .500 for either the Marlins or Reds.
  5. Our only reliable reliever is reliable again (sort of)
  6. It took 15 years but finally others are adopting my use of arbitrary end points to make their arguments! Also a 5.54 ERA in his last 7 starts before today 😉
  7. Taillon at 101 pitches, our bullpen is trash, hes on long rest, make him pitch the 7th until he gets in trouble.
  8. 2nd time this dude has been able to make it 5 innings in a game.
  9. This is really cool (Vin Scully warning for Raisin)
  10. It's getting to the point where the losses barely sting anymore. Yes I rant and rave like everyone but for as hurtful as those 2 losses were to our sinking playoff hopes, they mostly bounced right off of me the way they wouldn't have a week earlier. I guess what I'm saying is, if they win its a nice boost going into the weekend, if they lose its just more of a same and we can use this Simpson photo:
  11. great stuff as always A’s.
  12. Fwiw with Hendricks the beat writers lately have been talking about Hendricks coming back as a foregone conclusion. Not sure if that’s just speculation, not sure if that means picking up the option or declining it and re-signing him to a smaller amount but sounds like both sides want to keep it going. We’ll see
  13. I think at the deadline the team was still hovering under .500, possibly under, and was still 4-5 games out. I get the desire to go hard in either direction, and I was definitely confused as to why we didn’t at least get a veteran reliever but even if the team was playing well and their metrics showed they are a good team do you really think they should have traded real prospect capital for a .500 team that needed to jump 4 other teams and make up 4 games in the standings to even be in the playoff picture? Especially when the Braves and Dodgers are absolutely juggernauts. I think there should have been one more move but I was happy with getting the best bat traded during the deadline and simply not selling
  14. I made a hilarious post about Pat and Grant Balfour several years ago that killed it on this forum but I can't remember the context of the joke anymore so I'm not sure why I'm even bringing it up. Just to explain to newbies that I used to be funny sometimes I guess
  15. Finally an answer to why we cut Peterman and then resigned him
  16. Sounds like it takes Rossy 13 games to get angry that the season is slipping away
  17. This is the part of the night where I get myself hopeful again for no good reason. All I know is that every single team we are fighting with has sunk lower than us over the last 2 months. The Diamondbacks and Marlins both dipped under .500 after being close to 20 games over .500 in July. I'm sure their fans wrote off the playoffs, wanted to fire the manager, complained that they were tired or didnt have enough depth when they were 5 games back. Obviously they had more time to bounce back but they did and in both cases pretty suddenly, they both got red hot and got themselves right back into the race. The Reds have floated around the .500 mark too and looked burried. We just need to play 1 game better than 2 teams over a 9 game stretch. Figure out a horsefeathers way to do that and lets go to the playoffs. Sweep the Rockies, go 3-3 against the Braves and Brewers, make the Marlins or Reds go 7-2 to beat you.
  18. I don't get why you wouldn't want to see playoff baseball when its right there for the taking. I'm so annoyed at this team, but I'm annoyed at them because they are failing when I want them to make the playoffs so badly. Best of 3 series anything can happen. Probably wouldnt beat the Braves or Dodgers but whatever.
  19. Assuming this path continues and they dont make the playoffs I'd rank this 4th in worst end of season finishes for the Cubs since 2000. Top 9: 1. 2004 2. 2003 3. 2019 4. 2023 5. 2008 6. 2018 7. 2020 8. 2001 9. 2007
  20. Are you sure he wasn’t talking about the Cubs?
  21. No one can quantify the value of “lighting a fire” under a team. It might not even be a thing. It certainly doesn’t hurt the team I don’t think, unless Ross going ballistic on an ump causes the team to feel the stress of their choking even more
  22. Good news, Jamison Taillon is on the bump tomorrow
