  2. wat? Is the hatred really that strong? It's the same completely irrational thing that makes me want to not see the White Sox if we make it to the World Series. On paper, I know full well that the Cardinals and White Sox would be the best matchups in our favor we could hope for, but I still fear what happened the last time each of those clubs made the postseason. I know I'm wrong for thinking this. Would the Sox be the best matchup for us in a potential World Series? I'm not saying they wouldn't, I just haven't thought about it enough to agree/disagree. They have some serious mashers, a solid yet not dominant starting staff and a good bullpen (with Linebrink)
  3. Yup. Also not sure if you saw but the Cubs traded for Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin.

  5. Kearns. I still remember 2004.
  6. yay! Okay, this is unacceptable. The Cubs have been outscored by five runs in the sixth inning of the last 14 games. They really need to do something about that. Also, I hate working when there's a game on WGN, since those are the only games I get. Calm down, the 6th inning is when Lou lets the players take a coffee break. All players due up that inning are required to end their ABs as quickly as possible in order to join the rest of the players. The 7 runs were scored by players who wished to end their quick ABs with HRs instead of just striking out.
  7. True, but can't you say that about any team? All teams are dangerous if they're hot in the playoffs. As far as in the regular season, I'm not that concerned that they'll catch up to us. It could happen and I'm not saying it definitely won't, but I don't see it happening. Even with the head to head games with Milwaukee, if we only so much as split the 6 games, that's 6 fewer games in which they have to make up 5 games with about a month left. We're definitely sitting pretty, in that sense. If we get swept or lose 5/6, well, then that sucks, but there's more pressure on them in those games than on us. I'm just hoping we can tack a few games onto the lead and clinch decently early to get everything set up. Yup any team can get hot...but when you players that are getting hot include a player who will hit 40 this year, and a player that hit 50 last year, and combine them with a 1-2 of CC and Sheets, them getting hot holds much more weight.
  8. The thing is, just like a team like the 2004 Cubs, if they get in and come in hot, they can easily win the whole thing. Their offense is streaky though, and the back end of their rotation doesn't scare me as much as other teams.
  9. For that matter, you have to wonder what Sheets will have left by that point in the season. Same with Parra. Both those guys could hit the wall in October. Parra is a rookie and hasn't pitched this much in September. Sheets hasn't gone this deep in a season for a while. Same could be said for Dempster and Harden though.
  10. C'mon man have some faith in your team. You have the second best team in the NL! (this coming from a fan that contends to this day that the Cubs will not win a World Series in his lifetime)
  11. The 6-5 loss was the game where Soriano dropped the routine fly ball in the 9th with 2 outs. Ugh There are 3 games this year that I'm convinced we should have won. That one, the Cardinals game on the 4th of July when Wood blew a 2 run save, and the Brewers game in May where Wood blew a 2 run save. Of course there are some games that we should have lost, but let's ignore that and pretend that the Cubs record could have been 84-47 right now with a few bounces.
  12. Adam Dunn
  13. Yay the Cubs have clinched a .500 season! Now don't lose the next 31 games please
  14. Fontenot came in the game last inning defensively. Shut up
  15. Fontenot coming in specifically to face a lefty...interesting.
  16. I was about to go and make dinner until I saw Big Fly Bob come into the game, now I'm morbidly intrigued
  17. I understand this move. Woody hasn't pitched since Thursday, so Lou is putting Bob in for the 8th so it looks a little less ridiculous when Kerry pitches the 9th.
  18. Should they shut down the Royals because they haven't done well for 20 plus years. I don't think so. I have been to their ballpark and it is really beautiful. They add a really great family, small town feeling at the ballpark. That is something the MLB needs from some teams. Why should they have a team when they can't be competitive, can't draw fans, can't keep their good players, etc etc. Having franchises like the Royals and Pirates casts a dark cloud over the MLB. Other small market teams have proven you can win with a small payroll, but these 2 teams can't even figure out a way to do that. Hell, the Twins traded away arguably the best starting pitcher in baseball for nothing and still found a way to compete for the umteenth straight year.
  19. Did he end up reaching on a dropped third flyout?
  20. Regardless of how this season plays out, I am going to buy the DVD of the season recap because it is that special. That would be the first DVD I have bought in 4 years, but the Cubs are so special I would buy it in a heartbeat. Where do you buy those? I am sure the team comes out with some season highlights after the completion of the season of course. When it will come out, I am not sure, but I swear I have seen it offered before... Actually, there's gonna be something better than that this year. A documentary crew has been following the team and documenting the season since ST because they had decided to chronicle the Cubs and the 100 years thing. What an awesomely perfect year for that. I still want Eric Karros to release those damn tapes from 2003
  21. Yep. And the next time you have an opinion that's off color from the rest of the board I'll show you the respect of NOT cutting and pasting it into the busiest thread so I can have the most fun laughing at someone. I wish others would do the same, but I guess I expect too much. I didnt mean anything by it, I just read it and laughed to myself. And then saw the score of the game and laughed again. I didn't mean anything by it, just more of a laugh. Im sorry. Why is your username honoring a player who plays for a division rival? I've always wondered that. I mean I know he played for the Brewers, but that was like 3 years ago.
  22. Wow the Giants are only 10 games out of first? To put that in perspective, the leader of that division is 12 games behind us.
  23. These are the types of days I think about how far away I thought we were in 2006. I lost hope that year and really couldn't picture the Cubs being successful anytime in the next 5 years. Please everyone on this board, whether you are an optimist, pessimist, casual fan or die hard, take a few moments during the last couple months of the season, and appreciate how awesome this is, because most of us have never experienced this in our lives, and might not again for awhile (at least this level of awesomeness).
