    This is the only scenerio in which Marquis and Best possible pitcher can be used in the same sentence. If this one is called, I would hope Lou would just skip Marquis until Monday. Yeah, something about Cole Hamels vs. Jason Marquis makes me feel queasy.

    the cubs lost a game to the nationals. The Twins lost 2/3 to the Mariners earlier in the month, and the first 2 to the Mariners in this series. They did sweep them in Minny in between, but thats 4-4 vs. the worst team in the AL in the span of a month, and 1-4 in Seattle. We went 3-3 vs. the Nationals. Granted we're pretty clearly better than the Twins, but the Nats are pretty clearly worse than the Mariners. True, I guess I'm just frustrated because they are the only chance to unseat the White Sox in the Central, and these are the easiest games they have during a tough month and they are blowing it.

    I know its meaningless, but I'll be pissed if this game doesn't go down and the Cubs finish 99-62 with a game against the Pirates not being made up.

    This is what I'm saying. You may think the game threads are bad, but I think the people constantly calling out people are worse. CubManPi, you made an excellent post there. Maybe there should be 2 game threads each game. An "emotional reaction" game thread and a "analysis" game thread just so people on both sides would shut up and we could all post in peace

    I'm thinking Z will be the number 2 starter. If you take contracts into consideration, I would have taken Carlos Lee over Soriano in a heartbeat.

    Lot of interesting baseball tonight. Cardinals are done. Yankees are done. Minnesota is done if they can't even beat Seattle

    So if we go 21-9 to finish the season, we are guaranteed to make the playoffs. I like it. Considering we are in the middle of a 22-6 stretch, I think its possible to do that.

    And the Cubs will be 9.5 games ahead of a playoff spot after tonight (with 30 to play). They would have to make up almost a game in the standings every 3 days to catch up to the Cubs.

    Kinda annoys me how Len still says Lee's name with such reverence. Loaded for DERREK LEE like he's anything more than a singles hitter.
