  1. Ugh, Jason Marquis and possibly Ted Lilly pitching in Arlington does not sound like a fun option. Hopefully with it being September, the humidity that causes the ball to coast out of that park will have died down some. From what I read, we would most likely get Z, Dempster, and Marquis in a 3 game series. And for the record, the humidity is not very high here. Nothing like Chicago or Houston. My bad, I just assumed that the humidity was why the ball always flew at Arlington. What is it then wind currents?
  2. I was thinking about this last night, and is there anything that Selig or MLB could do if the Cubs just said they didn't want to play the games at the end of the regular season and would gladly forfeit? Has a team ever forfeited a game before? Not that I have a problem with it - I actually think it would be hilarious if the Cubs just gave MLB the finger - I was just curious about it. There is no way that would happen, especially if it causes the Astros to win or tie the Wild Card. There would be numerous MLB interests that would be livid at the Cubs. I would imagine a lawsuit isn't out of the question.

  4. I flipped to the NU game on the BTN, and there are literally like 30 people in the stands.
  5. I would love to get a player capable of putting up a .900= OPS since Derrek Lee can't do that anymore. It's amazing how we've build a team full of consistently very good hitters, but without a great one.
  6. Wow thats going to to be interesting to see how they can fit that in. I bet they move it to Dallas or SA or NO
  7. You are being paranoid I think. They were just talking about that on AM 1000 though. I mean Selig grew up watching the Cubs, I think its stupid to think he's using his commish powers to favor the Brewers. He's just a horrible commish.
  8. I really see no possible way to play the games in Houston, or for the Cubs to make it to Houston tom. The city is going to be complete chaos till probably at least Tuesday. This isn't something you wait out only to find out you can't play on Sunday. They should be finalizing plans tonight to guarantee a game being played on Sunday. At this point, can the Astros get out?
  9. Agreed on most points. I still think they'd be a harder matchup than Houston lets say, but I definitely don't hate the Milwaukee Brewers, and if the Cubs weren't going to be a playoff team, I'd want them to be. I wouldn't root for them to lets say win the World Series, because their fans would never let us hear the end of it.
  10. Yeah that's bizarre too. Does the MLB have any clue what they are doing? What happens if it for some reason is Boston vs. White Sox for the WC, what are they going to do? BTW, the fact that the White Sox get HFA over Minny in a potential one game playoff is HUGE They can flip another coin. Nah that's too hard. I was thinking a player on each team is selected and they engage in a game of parcheesi.

  12. Theres already a thread called the Reassurance thread that is doing this.
  13. I was just looking over the projected playoff matchups and I realized that MLB is 1 team in each league away from having their dream postseason. Here is how it looks now Playoff cities BOSTON LOS ANGELES CHICAGO TAMPA NEW YORK LOS ANGELES CHICAGO MILWAUKEE Swap Tampa with New York and Milwaukee with Philly/Houston and you have the ultimate big market playoffs. Both leagues would have teams from the 3 biggest markets in the country, and then the AL would have one of the biggest fanbases make up the 4th team in their field, while the NL would have either a big fanbase (Philly) or the 4th largest city in the US be its 4th team.
  14. No that would mean Houston would win the division. I know thats why I'm saying its weird that we would flip for the division, when realistically the only way there would be a 1 game tie breaker between Milwaukee and Chicago is if they both tied and Philadelphia passes both of us. As we know the chances of doing this is next to impossible. It's more likely (albeit not very) that Chicago finishes 2nd in the Central and tied with a team like Houston or Philly for the WC. If the Cubs go 6-10 in their last 16 games, the Phillies would have to go 15-0 and the Brewers would have to go 11-4 to make a 1 game playoff occur.
  15. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080912&content_id=3461998&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb AMERICAN LEAGUE Playoff for AL East Tampa Bay at Boston Playoff for AL Central Minnesota at Chicago White Sox Playoff for AL Wild Card Minnesota at Boston NATIONAL LEAGUE Playoff for NL East New York Mets at Philadelphia Playoff for NL Central Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Playoff for NL West Arizona at Los Angeles Dodgers Playoff for NL Wild Card Milwaukee at Philadelphia Milwaukee at Houston Milwaukee at St. Louis Houston at Philadelphia St. Louis at Philadelphia Houston at St. Louis Weird that they would have Chicago flip for the NL Central but not for the Wild Card. The only way the Cubs and Brewers play for the Central is if they end the season tied and both teams fall below the WC threshold, which would mean either Philly or another NL Central team (Houston) would pass us.
  16. That was a fun moment. I remember being so pissed when Marquis gave up that 2 run shot the previous inning.
  17. During the course of a long 162 game season, a lot of little moments get forgotten in the glut of games, and peaks and valleys. Everyone will remember Fukudome's Opening Day HR, the beatdown in Milwaukee, the comeback vs. Colorado, etc. but sometimes its the little things that make a season special to each individual person. I just felt it was appropriate to have a thread like this one to remember these moments in the midst of what figures to be, in one way or another, a special season. Here are a few particular moments I remember: -Soto taking a charge at the plate by Prince Fielder - and holding onto the ball and not being shaken up. -Lee hitting that opposite field double to plate the game winning run in the first game of that Brewers series. -Reed Johnson's go ahead HR to sweep Arizona at Wrigley. Feel free to add on.
  18. Thats like April 2007 old
  19. Liar, I could probably find 13 sites it is on.
  20. The Brewers historically hit Hamels well. Last 2 starts 7 IP 5 ER (this year) 7 IP 4 ER (last year)
  21. BCB has it too... http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2008/9/12/612922/cuban-embargoed Gotta be true
  22. Honestly, how is that any different than if the Cubs and Astros played in the last series of the season and they already clinched everything?
  23. I don't expect those games to be meaningful. All we have to do is play up to 4 games worse than the Brewers over our remaining 13 games (17 for the Brewers)
  24. We need to kill a couple of days here so lets play a game. Predict when the next Cub game will be.
  25. It's a bit overboard to claim he's not the same pitcher. This is the what Harden has to do to keep pitching. Dial it back at times, get some extra rest, leave games early. He did it before coming to the Cubs and he's been doing it since joining the Cubs. So if this is a playoff game, do you think he's hitting 93 consistently?
