  1. Will Carrol on Z's arm slot yesterday:
  2. Not to divert from the Howry discussion, but I also wanted to know who you guys thought should be our 7th inning guy at this point.
  3. I actually think he's played his way onto the playoff roster based solely on his 1 inning last night With a 3.00 WHIP? 2 intentional walks, but I guess he deserved it by giving up the leadoff triple.
  4. I think you'd be surprised how many chances Lou will be willing to give Howry. I could be wrong though.
  5. This is a question I am surprised hasn't come up yet. Everyone is calling the Cubs bullpen a huge strength for the team, and while they are probably right, as the only potential playoff teams in the NL that can touch our bullpen are the Phillies and maybe Dodgers, there are still a lot of questions about the pen. Obviously, the 2 givens are CL - Wood and 8th inning SU - Marmol. But where do we go from there? Samardzija was starting to be slotted as the 7th inning guy, but has looked very poor in the last month, a sign that he might just need some more seasoning. Gaudin has been roughed up, but is coming off a 3 week injury, Howry has his own word filter on NSBB, and Cotts, while pretty good at times, just doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. CL - Wood 8th SU - Marmol Rest of the pool: Howry, Cotts, Samardzija, Marquis, Gaudin, Marshall (keep in mind that one of these players in the pool will likely NOT make the rotation) My guess: 7th inning SU - Cotts 6th inning SU - Gaudin/Marshall (depending on matchups) LR - Marquis Mop up - Howry Out - Samardzija But this could change daily. Your thoughts?
  6. Somehow I can't see the need for a VWR for the Bulls. I was hoping this thread was bumped to tell me Ben Gordon finally caved and signed.
  7. I put this in today's game thread, but I find this stat amazing. Aramis Ramirez has extreme reverse splits this year: .308 .398 .565 .962 vs. RHP .229 .327 .382 .708 vs. LHP For his career, he has regular splits: .283 .339 .493 .832vs. RHP .286 .351 .533 .904 vs. LHP More bizarre is that he absolutely murdered lefties last year, the biggest extreme in the other direction in his career: .286 .339 .487 .826 vs. RHP .395 .457 .763 1.220 vs. LHP Is there any explanation? It could just be a fluke (sample size vs. LHP is 150 PAs this year), but its a really extreme shift as he has greatly increased his performance vs. RHP and greatly decreased his performance against LHP.

  9. Is that a twinge of jealousy? I know its horrible. We do hit worse vs. RHP (which is expected) but its still over league average .274 .350 .444 .794 vs. RHP .291 .369 .446 .815 vs. LHP Plus, Ramirez has big reverse splits this year and has hit RHP really well, and 2 of our other positions are in straight platoons (CF, and 2B/RF). I don't know if anyone has realized this, but this is Aramis Ramirez's splits this year: .308 .398 .565 .962 vs. RHP .229 .327 .382 .708 vs. LHP Looking at potential NL playoff teams rotations Dodgers: 3 righties, 1 lefty Mets: 2 righties, 2 lefties Phillies: 2 righties, 2 lefties Brewers: 2 righties, 2 lefties

  11. I can't wait until tonight's game finishes at 3 AM because the MLB really needs the Mets to play this game.
  12. I like the idea of Demp pitching games 1 and 5 and Harden pitching game 2. This way, if Dempster struggles and only goes like 5 in a potential game 5 you can have Harden come in and let it all go for 2-3 innings.
  13. Now do it only for games when the Cubs played playoff caliber teams.
  14. All of said innings were pretty terrible. Big sign of a choke: When you get a runner on third with 0 outs in 3 consecutive innings and only score 1 run.
  15. that never happened. i'm like 98% sure that was in the 7th inning. gj rammy. my friend tells me you just hit a home run. It was in the 8th inning I think, and we already had a 1 run lead. I honestly don't know why I typed walk-off. I meant go-ahead, which I'm pretty sure it was go-ahead. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200705190.shtml We had a 1 run lead when he hit it, but we entered that inning trailing by 1.
  16. The Mets might lose a game where Neil Cotts, Kevin Hart, Jeff Samardzija and Bob Howry each pitched an inning

  18. LOL WERE NOT EVEN TRYING METS FANS!
  19. So who is going to "close" this game? Wells?
  20. Whoever wins is in line for a first round knockout. That's fine by me. I just don't want to see the Sox get in. I want the city to be focused on the Cubs when the time comes.
  21. By contrast, the Twins fans are going utterly nuts right now in the White Sox game. was just going to say that. gotta love minnesota I've been to 3 twins game this year, they get pretty crazy there. Also, they booed AJ Pierzinski everytime his name was announced :D They actually have a pretty good following that makes the trip to KC when they play the Royals. This game is fun to watch. Pennant race baseball at it's best (except it's the AL...). Lets not get go gah gah over Twins fans just yet. They only drew 35k last night for the first game of that big series.
  22. Twins are 0.5 games behind the White Sox
