  1. I would think also its because the teams typically play 15 or more games against teams in their division in the regular season, and it'd be stupid to make them play each other again right away in the playoffs.
  2. I'm taking a halfday so I can get to the park early and take it all in. Will probably goto a bar until 4 and then head into the game. Not sure which one yet.
  3. They wouldn't make the Twins fly to Chicago if there was a potential for no game. I think they will do everything in power to get the game in today. If they have to start the game at 7 there will be baseball today.
  4. Besides the wrong starting pitcher for the Cubs? :P Yeah wtf was i thinking. I meant Dempster. I must be drunk or something..
  5. They were also playing crap teams with bad pitchers. That's true, but they were playing crap teams with bad pitchers in the first half. They play in the NL West. I really doubt the only reason their offense improved was because they all the sudden started playing bad teams, and not because they added 4 solid hitters to their everyday lineup. (3 technically because Furcal only played a week)
  6. Somebody posted somewhere else that their #s weren't much better post-July. Like .1 R/G better. Hmm...well Furcal didn't return until this week, Blake hasn't been hitting to his potential, and Ethier didn't fully replace Pierre until September I believe, but that is surprising. Try to be optimistic for once. The Dodgers are best team in a terrible division who the Cubs beat 5-2 in the regular season. It's not a cake walk but the Cubs should beat this team in a 5 game series. All your fretting won't make things better if they lose. There are two sides to every story. I'd stop worrying about whether I'm being pessimistic or not. I've already predicted the Cubs win the series, what is your problem with admitting its going to be a tough series and that the Dodgers are a better team than the one we faced in June? BTW, we went 5-2 against the Dodgers but outscored them 19-18.
  7. I predict the Cubs win 3-2 Cubs will make Lowe throw a lot of pitches in the first, maybe a single and 2 walks before DeRo hits a 2 run single and the Cubs take a 2-0 lead. Cubs tack on another run somewhere in the game, but Lowe pretty much settles in and dominates the Cubs for 7 innings. Zambrano will give it his all and be good Z until around the 6th, when he'll tire and quickly lose his control. The Dodgers will score a pair to make it 3-2. From there, the Cubs and Dodgers respective bullpens will do their jobs, and Kerry Wood will close the game with a stressful 9th inning (multiple runners on base). How's that for a detailed prediction?
  8. TheCubReporter posted the numbers...I think you might have been mistaken SSR: Pre Manny vs. Post Manny RPG - 4.17 vs. 4.70 HR/G - .69 vs. 1.19 BB/G - 3.10 vs. 3.89 OBP - .321 vs. 357 SLG - .376 vs. .446 OPS - .697 vs. 803 That's a SIZABLE difference.
  9. Somebody posted somewhere else that their #s weren't much better post-July. Like .1 R/G better. Hmm...well Furcal didn't return until this week, Blake hasn't been hitting to his potential, and Ethier didn't fully replace Pierre until September I believe, but that is surprising.
  10. Special teams isnt giving him enough of a hole to start a return. One he gets going, he has enough time to juke and if needed accelerate to full speed (like what you saw on that kickoff return) I think the Special Teams misses Ayenbadejo. That man was a human wedge.
  11. Plus how can you give the Dodgers offensive statistics when they completely overhauled their offense in the second half Manny comes aboard Blake comes aboard Furcal over Berroa or whoever they were playing at SS Ethier over Pierre finally The offense the Dodgers had in July is completely different than the one they have now.
  12. I completely agree with the OP. Baseball is an everyday thing, a constant for 6 months. No matter what is going on in my life from April to September, there is always a Cubs game. Theres nothing like having a bad day and work and knowing that the Cubs are going to play the Reds tonight. Even if the Cubs are bad, baseball is by far my favorite sport, and I am watching and following every day. October is such a void for sports. Sure on the weekend you have college football and nfl, but during the week I miss that void. The Bulls do a good job of replacing that void for the most part starting in November, but its definitely not the same.
  13. i admit i'm kind of a "glass half empty" fan, but i have definitely been bothered by this. they could easily be 4-0 or 3-1. having said that, they have a very favorable schedule for the next 4-5 weeks and hopefully can take advantage of it. orton is still struggling a lot at times, but i've been fairly pleased with his play as a whole. i'm hoping that he'll get better as the season progresses. True, and its not like the Packers are 4-0. I guess looking at the schedule to start the season, if someone told you the Bears could be tied for first after those 4 games, you'd have taken it.
  14. I wish Lou could rearrange the playoff rotation after the fact. Several of the Dodgers hitters struggle against LHP, and having Ted Lilly could have been a big asset. I would do Dempster Harden Lilly Zambrano Lilly at Dodger Stadium because of the long ball threat. Zambrano gets a nice rest
  15. Is anyone else happy about the win, but also restrained knowing that we could be 4-0 or at least 3-1? The difference between 2-2 and 3-1 could end up being the playoffs, or it could end up being a home game or it could end up being a bye. Not that I expect the Bears to goto the Super Bowl or anything, even in my wildest dreams, but still.
  16. If tickets do come up, I am giving everyone a 5 minute window because I already have a ticket, but after that I am buying 1 or 2 for my friends. I am not planning on pulling a Mizzou, no matter how tempting.
  17. I think they are preparing to release some....keep us up to date.
  18. How can anyone assume that the Cubs will blow through the NLDS? If anything, that is the hardest round to get past, being a short series. In a 7 game series, the better team has a better shot of winning.
  19. You think so? I would probably take the Cubs 1-4 over the Dodgers 1-4, but at least right now the Cubs starters have more questions than the Dodgers do. And if the Cubs have the best rotation in the NL, the Dodgers certainly have the second best.
  20. ESPN's Series Page is up: http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2008/series?series=ladchc All 5 experts pick the Cubs
  21. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/913623C7D43A2BE9862574D3000F23EE?OpenDocument
  22. I saw that Orton's passer rating in the first half was 106.6 and in the second half 0.0
  23. Like everything, subject to change. I will never fall for that again.
  24. Second half records: Cubs: 40-26 Dodgers: 38-29
  25. This will be a tough series. I think if we beat Lowe, we will have any easy series, possibly in 3 or 4. If we lose to Lowe, the series could go either way IMO
