  1. I think you are overthinking things. Hendry wanted a closer for insurance in case Kerry leaves and made a stupid move.
  2. *grabs a box of popcorn and sits patiently.*
  3. But he has also hosed them Lee for Choi was a salary dump. Not sure that's the best comparison. And Willis et. al for Alfonseca/Clement is debatable. It doesn't matter if it was a salary dump, they still got crappy players back for a very good player. Except Lee wasn't very good when they got him and he's only had one very good season as a Cub. He's been a not at all special first baseman for the vast majority of his career. He's probably been above league average at 1B in 2004, 2005 and 2007 right? Still worth it for Choi, even if he's been overpaid.
  4. Do you ever think Hendry immediately goes to boards like this when he makes deals and reads the fans reactions and laughs?
  5. One wonders if Ceda was in the offer.
  6. Wait, the trade is done already? Aren't we supposed to read rumors about the trade for months before it gets done.
  7. Some (handpicked) responses on the Marlins forum: http://www.marlinsbaseball.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86442 (Responding to a fan complaining they only got Ceda)
  8. Yeah he's a solid bullpen arm, but hes another righty and we gave up one of our better prospects for him...who also happens to be a hard throwing righty. The only way I see this trade being made is if its bye bye Woody, which looks to be the case.
  9. Wow.... If Gregg was a lefty, I could somewhat live with it. But wow. I bet this was a move to cushion the blow of losing Woody.
  10. ibanez is only athletic in the sense that he is a professional athlete. Here's to hoping Hendry can "wow" the Marlins for Hermida because, there's no benefit to wasting money on Ibanez. ibanez is second on my list after hermida...he has solid numbers and would really bring some solid production to the lineup...i don't understand the dislike for ibanez He is really bad at defense. I couldn't pick if you asked me who I wanted for one half inning of defense Bonds or Ibanez. I'm not much of a defensive guy, because for the most part I could get over bad defense if they are good at the plate, but Ibanez even scares me. I think a lot of people underrate defense. I don't think its as important as offense, but its more important than people give it credit for.

  12. Wow, way to jump to conclusions. So everybody lied about the Cubs actually being interested in Peavy and Lou just spoiled everyone's master plan? Right. Wow, I take back what I said above. I still think its entirely possible that Towers floated these semi-true rumors on purpose, but his article provides absolutely no proof of that.
  13. Not really. He mostly just writes everything in question format and peppers in the occasional "guh" for emphasis. I think the writers who have spun off Desipio (the Hire Jim Essian guys, mostly) are far better. True. And I have noticed a lot of his articles are spent ripping on an imaginary (yet real) group of "Cubs fans" that are panicked, delusional, and irrational regarding the Cubs. Someone commented in his entry today that Andy sounds like a grumpy old man, and that seems to fit well. I still enjoy reading his posts though. Andy if you're reading this, keep em coming!
  14. Duh. I got myself sucked into the rumors a bit, but as many of us said, it was definitely very likely Hendry helped Towers out by floating trade rumors between them out there.
  15. Why can't we if he talks about us in every blog entry? It's mutual stroking :) For the record, as I said I have no problem with Dolan, even if he attacks things I say. I do think his generalization of certain parts of NSBB and specific posters (vance, Hoops, etc) is unfair, but thats part of his writing style. I called him a "fading star" because the man never posts entries anymore. His writing is still sharp as ever, but lets face it, you don't post much and people tend to forget you.
  16. I had to spit the Zima out of my mouth and quickly click off eHarmony when I read that line...I thought he was watching me or something. And yes, he did look like the biggest pisser and moaner. I still have a lot of respect for Andy as a writer, but boy have his posts taken a negative attacking tone over the last 12-18 months.
  17. Haha, I just read Dolan's newest post on the trade rumor on his blog and he quoted me on it! I've been reading Desipio for 5 years and never thought I'd be so honored (although in the post he's ripping me and others who commented on his rumor big time, but I'll just have to overlook that)
  18. Meh, let Peavy go to the Braves. I would have been happy to have him, but not at all upset if we didn't get him. I'd rather us allocate our resources towards a RF and resigning Wood (assuming we can sign Demp to a reasonable contract...if not target Lowe or Burnett or someone). I just want to win a freaking playoff game. I had a dream last night the Cubs got to the playoffs again, and lost the first game of the series.
  19. Jim Hendry of 2005 wonders why that's funny.
  20. I can't wait for an article starting like this:
  21. Why not? It's not like we have a game to talk about.
  22. While the Phillies were a great team, they had the luxury of watching the Mets implode yet again. I don't think Manuel would be in this discussion had the reverse happened. I'm quite happy with Lou winning it. Personally, I'm more perplexed by Joe Torre getting a first-place vote and Sveum getting a third place vote. I thought he was talking about Jerry Manuel lol
  23. He's risky. But he nearly threw 200 innings last season. And his arm almost fell off in September, giving the Brewers little to nothing down the stretch and in the playoffs.
