  1. In the final two minutes of them clinching a berth in the National League Championship. Does. Not. Compute.
  2. Yeah seriously, this is just a terrific heart warming story. Guy plays in the minors for 11 years waiting for his shot, finally gets what is supposed to be a cup of coffee, and plays hit butt off and earns more time in the bigs. I've heard a couple of interviews with him and he seems like a real good guy and class act. I'm really happy for him, even if I don't think he can keep this up. Prove me wrong, Bobby.
  3. Boo hoo, Boston doesn't get to win another championship.
  4. Wings in 5 over Hawks. Prove me wrong guys...
  5. wow. Ducks had like 4 opportunities to tie it up with Osgood down and couldn't convert.
  6. I think the look is him realizing that he is never going to get a fair wrap as long as he's a major league baseball player.
  7. That's so BS. If they are trying to go by the book and making any contact with the ump a suspendable offense, fine whatever. But the contact was so minor and incidental that the MLB had to know he should not be punished in the least. They should have announced the suspension before today's game, when they knew Lou would have had him sit anyways and then get over it. Instead they wait until the 7th inning of the game he's already sitting in to announce it, basically making it a 2 game suspension. That's the stupidest timing ever. If they announced the suspension before today's game he could have sat today and played tomorrow. But now he sits 2 games in a row. Oh well.
  8. Cubs rookies of the year: 61: Billy Williams 62: Ken Hubbs 89: Jerome Walton 98: Kerry Wood 08: Geovany Soto 09: Bobby Scales :)
  9. Dammit, that was inches from a Grand Slam.
  10. See...we aren't the only team whose relievers walk the first batter they face.
  11. Oh no, I hope that doesn't happen. The horror, to think that one of these days Marmol will allow runs to score and lose a game. No other reliever has had to deal with that tragedy. I'm sure as soon as it happens, you'll forget how many times his control won innings that eventually led to winning games. I said important spot. That doesn't mean a Wednesday night game against the Padres. I don't think you have a clue what your talking about, because no where did I mention that his control is an issue. I am the guy who has complete confidence in Marmol even if he comes in and walks the bases loaded in a 1 run game. As soon as he hits the strike zone, he's godly. But the man isn't perfect. One of these days in a critical game, he's gonna fail and it's gonna suck. Doesn't mean I'll forget the other times he saved our butts.
  12. I think its funny that if Theriot doesn't hit another HR this year, no one wins this poll.
  13. Your right he's not, but Freel has never played a game at SS in his career.
  14. Lou just said that he's planning on "resting people" tomorrow and I shudder to think what that means? Will we see a repeat of the Lincecum game? I hope not. I know they say 2/3 every series will get you over 100 wins, but it sure would be nice to sweep a series. We swept quite a few last year and it was fun.
  15. Yeah its possible. It's also possible if you go early enough to sell to a ticket broker in their stores. They won't offer face though. You might be able to propose a trade - those tickets for (worse) tickets to another game. If you are trying to sell tickets for over face outside Wrigley and aren't a licensed broker, you will very likely get a ticket from a cop if they catch you, and they do have undercover cops at a lot of games pretending to buy tickets. I'm definitely not looking to sell for over face. At this point I'd be ecstatic with $10 less than face per ticket, but thanks for the advice. I am going to be getting there 2 hours before gametime at least, so I'll maybe just try to sell to a broker so I don't have to deal with it. Also, I've had great luck in the past posting tickets on Craigslist. It never hurts to put them up there with a phone number or email address. In fact I would go do that right now no matter what just to add more chances that someone bites on them.

  17. No..it's not tied, nor did one team take the lead over the other in the last completed inning. The Cubs led going into the inning and they led after the completed inning, despite the Padres scoring a run to make it 6-4
  18. Man...AG is on pace to hit 69 home runs this year whilst playing at Petco 81 games a year, imagine how good he'd be as a Cub or any other team....easily the most underrated player in baseball. The thing that hurts him is that he's pretty bad against left handed pitchers. In the last 3 years, he had a .756 OPS vs. lefties and a .908 OPS vs. righties.
  19. Probably because he's going to be pretty expensive going into his arby years, the Padres have a very very thin payroll to get down to, they are no where close to competing, and their other expensive talent is holding the team hostage by only accepting trades to 5 teams. I'm not saying its right, but that would probably be their logic. That said, I highly highly doubt they end up trading him.
  20. It probably has at least a little to do with his approach. He was so effective going the other way into right field with those singles, thats what the Cubs asked him to do. I guess it was his best way to help the team.
  21. Gah, pretty poor inning by Marmol, 1 IP 2 H 2 BB 1 ER 0 K
  22. C'mon Marmol, just one more out. One of these days, Marmol's control is going to kill us in an important spot.
  23. Yeah...Gonzalez and it wouldn't even be a tough decision.
  24. Because he couldn't catch a blooper with his back to home plate in a swirling wind, he can't play defense anymore? But yeah I believe the numbers say that he isn't the same defensive 1B as he was earlier in his career. Also, am I the only one that still isn't willing to trash on Derrick Lee and feels somewhat confident he'll at least be a decent contributor this year? I'm actually more worried about Soto than I am Lee, today's home run aside. No Lee offensively is done Im afraid. His bat is so slow its scary. He just isnt the same player, and part of that may be playing with a herniated disk, but I think hes done. See I remember people commenting on how amazingly slow Edmonds' bat was when we first signed him and he struggled, but then he ended up hitting 20 HRs for us and had a pretty good offensive season. Lee is 33 and while he is old enough to be declining, I don't feel like he's at all old enough to be completely washed up. I would be willing to bet at some point this year he'll have a halfway decent stretch of ball. Edmonds wasnt playing with a herniated disk, and coming off a couple seasons of losing his power since returning from an injury. He was also 38, while Lee is 33
