    Not that bad. Even though some didn't want to admit it, no one expects the Hawks to win this series. Even down 0-2 and tied 3-3 in this one, they've played better than I thought they would/could. Well I didn't really expect the Bulls to beat the Celtics and I was dying on every possession. I can't imagine walking out of the UC tonight and not wanting to hang yourself if they end up losing this game. 1) when the game is acually on it's a much different story than 30 minutes after the game when the adrenaline of the game is over 2) the bulls series was different bc after like 2 games we knew the Bulls were good enough to beat Boston.

    Man going into this game, I thought this was the best chance of getting a win,and we had everything going for us too. I think we can all agree that blowing a 3 goal and losing pretty much means a sweep. Blah.

    I love how we have played at an 87 win pace this year despite injuries to our catcher, first baseman, third baseman (and best overall player), right fielder and ace pitcher, and really really slow starts from 4 starters in our lineup. And people still want to fire everyone including the manager/GM/hitting coach, bench Lee (who is finally picking it up), replacing last years ROY with a career minor leaguer, etc etc. If this was late June, I'd be thinking about some changes. But the season isn't even 25% complete, and our heads are still above the water despite everything that's happened. It's not unheard of for teams to tread water in the first half and make a run in the second half. There is no doubt that collectively we are talented enough to do that very thing. So relax, let the professionals like Hendry identify the key issues that this team is facing, and then make the corresponding moves. I know most think that Jimbo's offseason was a complete failure (and I would mostly agree), but the guy has the resources to address the major problems we have. Making panic moves is not the answer at this time. That's about as optimistic as I can be, so there :)

    Last year we scored 7, 9 and 1 runs in that park. It's possible to hit there, but its really hard to hit HRs.

If you want to look for a bright spot, Guzman is continuing to make the team confident that they have their 7th inning guy. is patton really going away? i hadn't heard anything about this, other than most of NSBB wanting him gone. We havnt seen the guy in ages. Theres really no need to keep him over Ascanio, who Lou actually seems to almost trust. he's a rule 5 guy, they usually go many games without playing. it's not as simple as sending him down; if he's not on the chicago cubs then he ceases to be in the organization. Why can the Cubs afford to hide a non-prospect in Patton on their bench for the entire year? I mean at best you get a decent reliever somewhere down the road. Yay great. The Cubs have been throwing money at their problems for year, and now all the sudden they can accept having a 24 man team to keep a marginal reliever on their team? Just make a trade with Colorado already.

    If you told me St. Louis was only going to score 8 runs in this series, I would be happy that we won the series. I wouldn't in a million years believe that St. Louis would sweep with 8 runs scored.

    Exactly. If you want to look for a bright spot, Guzman is continuing to make the team confident that they have their 7th inning guy. Basically it could be Wells as long man Ascanio 5th/6th if needed Heilman mop up Cotts loogy until we get someone better Guz 7th Marmol 8th Gregg closer. I know Marshall has been awesome as a starter, but I'm curious to see what would happen if we made Marshall the LOOGY and moved Heilman to the rotation. Heilman was solid in the spring as a starter, and he obviously isn't getting it done in the pen. Will never happen though. I just kinda want to see if Heilman would have any value as a starter before we completely give up on him or banish him forever in Lou's doghouse.

    Great inning for the Cubs offense. Fred, when is the last time the Cubs were held to 2 runs in a 3 game series? The last time I remember was in 2004 against the Astros, but maybe its happened more recently.

    I wish I could convince Miles to quit playing baseball. We seriously have Neifi Perez all over again. I thought we were through with Neifi Perez type players on the Cubs. 1. Both suck 2. Both are lauded for their ability to play a bunch of positions 3. Both have OBPs that are carried by their BA However, at least Neifi had a shred of power in his repitoire. I think I'd rather have Neifi on this team than Miles.

    Nah, I don't buy it. He led a team that was expected be a slightly above average offense into the highest scoring team in the NL last year. Even though the offense as a whole hasn't been great this year, every team has stretches like this. It's way to early to make panic moves and start firing people. The Cubs will be fine in the long run. By fine I mean they will be competing for a playoff spot all year.

    At least White Sox fans get to ride the roller coaster of highs and lows that we seem to be so familiar with. I much prefer trades when they come out of nowhere a la Cutler.

    Come on, the White Sox offense is easily better than San Diego's, as is their rotation and pen outside of Peavy. Plus the White Sox are committed to winning and operate a payroll that reflects that, while the Padres are being held to a $40 million payroll. There's a huge difference. But if I'm Peavy I'm thinking that if the White Sox aren't my ideal destination, its very likely that more of these deals will pop up over the course of the next 2 months. If you want to get technical, the Pads have a better record than the Sox. With Peavy pitching for the Padres all year.

Not the best stat to quote but the Sox have 7 more runs than the Pads and they play in a hitters park in the AL. The season's not over yet. The White Sox hitters have a much better track record over their careers than the Padres hitters sans Gonzalez.

    Barry Axelrod, Peay's agent, is shooting this down and saying Peavy is unlikely to accept at this time.

    Really weird that the article says that on Wednesday night Peavy reiterated his desire to stay in the NL, yet on the Score Scott Linebrink was just on and said that Peavy wanted people to know that the "NL only" thing is false.

    WSI sure seems to this this is already done. Apparently Linebrink has been convincing Peavy all day to come here and the Padres have apparently pulled down his framed jersey in front of their ballpark according to SD radio.
