    So if a pitcher goes 2/3 of an inning and gives up 10 runs, and then his team rallies to win 11-10, the starter should get the win rather than another pitcher that held the opposition scoreless for the rest of the game? No way this ever happens, and it shouldn't. Why not? The W-L stat is worthless anyways. There's no way to make it right so just make it as simple as possible, take the reliever getting wins and losses element out of it and simply make it a "record when X starts game" stat, that is a novelty stat and no importance is given to it. If a starter gives up 10 runs in 2/3 of an inning and somehow wins, it balances out for the time he goes 8 innings and gives up 1 run and loses, just like how similar crap happens with the way the stat is calculated now. Basically my true point is that the W-L stat is so useless and stupid it doesn't really matter what they do with it because it will never have any importance on the game of baseball.

    Damon would be a horrible CF at this point in his career. We spent plenty of time hating on Pierre's noodle arm in 2006, I think Damon's arm is worse. As for RF, he hasn't played more than 5 games in a season in RF since 1999. I don't think he's a viable fit for us, but if he was I'd be interested. He's old but he still puts up good numbers, better numbers than any of the other options out there.

    Bruins tie it with under 3 left dammit. Niemi giving up way too many rebounds. Not his best game.

    Versteeg has had a really nice game, and it goes beyond the goal he scored. He's set up some nice shots and had pretty good puck control when on the ice.

    Hawks kill the PP and then get a very nice goal with less than a minute left in the period. I love the Hawks strategy of getting the puck near the net and then cleaning up the garbage.

    Dammit, a defensive breakdown ends with the equalizer for the Bruins. The Hawks had the puck but couldnt clear it and the Bruins took advantage. And then literally 2 game seconds later, Hossa commits a penalty and the Bruins are on the power play. Luckily the Bruins suck on the PP.

    Couple of good goals off of deflections for the Hawks give them a 2-1 lead 2/3 of the way through the period. Fun game to watch so far.

    In 2005, the Sox rode the coat tails of the great Scott Podsednik to a World Series title. In 2006, the Cubs rode the coat tails of the pathetic Juan Pierre to the worst record in the National League. Now Pierre is on the Sox, and Pods is rumored to be a target of the Cubs. Will the roles reverse?

    When over half the teams in your league make the playoffs it isn't too hard to still be in the playoff race a quarter of the year in. Only teams like the Nets and T-Wolves are done. Yes but what I was saying is that with an easier schedule, and a healthy Thomas, and (wishful thinking) just a little improved play, I could see the Bulls making up that one game deficit. It's not like the other teams in that 7-12 range is clearly better than the Bulls.

    How bizarre. I just looked at the NBA standings and noticed that the Bulls are only 1 game out of the playoffs right now despite how horrible they've been. Even funnier is that the Bulls have played the hardest schedule in the NBA to date. I'm not saying that the Bulls are anywhere near a playoff caliber team. I'm saying that it's really hard to find even 6 playoff caliber teams in the Eastern Conference this season.

    Seriously...Taj really is a poor man's Tyrus Thomas with probably less athleticism. Didn't you go off on me when I suggested this exact thing on draft night? Did I? I remember saying "Taj who?" when Gibson was drafted. If I did, it was because I was just riled up about not taking DeJaun Blair.

    Does anyone else get sick of seeing an NFC East matchup on primetime every weekend? Don't get me wrong these are mostly good teams and their rivalries are really good, but it's like every week its Dallas/NYG or NYG/PHI or PHI/WAS and I don't know I just get sick of it. It doesn't help that 3 of the 4 teams are like the same team in my mind, every week its a 7-6 team playing an 8-5 team or something. From a casual fans view these 3 teams (PHI/NYG/DAL) all seem the same. They all have good but not elite QBs, they all have their share of solid WRs and RBs, their defenses are good enough but not elite. The worst thing about it is, IMO none of the 3 teams is good enough to get to the conference title game. So I could care less about watching these NFC East matchups every week. I want to see out of division and out of conference matchups once in awhile.

    Nutshell, meet Jim Hendry's offseason. I gave Jim Hendry the benefit of the doubt last year with the ownership change and desperate economic conditions. This offseason is inexcusable. Rich Harden and Milton Bradley turned into Carlos Silva and maybe Marlon Byrd. Read that last sentence again. Kinda like how Jim Edmonds and Mark DeRosa turned into Milton Bradley and Aaron Miles last off season right?

    I think that wins should be a novelty stat that is simply a representation of a team's record when that starter starts. So whether you pitch 0.1 innings and get ejected for throwing at someone with a 5-0 lead, or pitch 12 innings and give up 1 run and lose, you deal with the consequences. What is the point of relievers getting wins and losses? Does any care that Carlos Marmol went 2-4 last year, or do they care about his ERA, WHIP, K/9, BB, etc.? I would only approve of this change if everyone whose anyone in baseball agreed to not place one iota of importance on wins and losses as it pertains to a pitcher's worth. I am pretty sure that people in hockey could care less about W-L for a goalie, and a goalie's W-L might be more indicative of a goalie's value than a pitcher's value (although still with significant flaws). If this was the case, here is how our starter's W-L would be last year Zambrano 18-10 (really 9-7) Harden 13-13 (9-9) Dempster 13-18 (11-9) Wells 14-13 (12-10) Lilly 16-11 (12-9) Marshall 2-7 (2-5) Gorzelanny 4-3 (4-2) Hart 3-1 (3-1) Samardzija 0-2 (0-2)

    What do you mean give him a chance? None of us are going to prevent him from playing. But the guy sucks. There's no good reason to give guys a clean slate when they have a track record that tells you how much of a disaster they are. I might, but keep it on the dl in case I pull it off.

    From what I heard the Mariners had no interest in taking Bradley until the Lee trade came about. Now they are more willing to take him aboard since they expect him to be another piece to help them contend. If that makes sense.

    Meanwhile, Lookout Landing is ecstatic about this trade. It is funny to see them say things like "We can fix him" and "We have a tight knit clubhouse that can handle a malcontent". Soon it will be "He's saying all the right things, I think he really wants to fit in here"

    Seriously...Taj really is a poor man's Tyrus Thomas with probably less athleticism. I was really looking forward to seeing what Tyrus had in store this year. If you remember, he had a period the second half of last year where he really came on strong. A lot of people forget that. I was hoping he'd improve on that this year and finally prove he's a decent player and one worth resigning, although that ship may have sailed who knows.
