  1. Fields is running too much. Doing a great job when he does but he’s already grimacing and already fumbled
  2. Looking at the Dodgers payroll, their top 3 players now make a combined $127m and each individually makes more than the Cubs highest paid player. but the crazy thing to me is that outside of those 3 players and Chris Taylor, they have no one else on the roster making over $10m. In contrast the Cubs have 7. Guessing the Dodgers will still add significant pieces this offseason though.
  3. Jed's not going to leak anything just in case.
  4. I’m not saying it’s not a problem just that it’s better than it was 20 years ago when the MLB was about to contract 2 teams to help competitive balance. Still a long way to go when teams like the Royals and Pirates have basically sucked 80-90% of the time the last 2 decades. The Rays have been able to consistently compete but they are a glaring exception. Not sure what you mean about siphoning off fans though, baseball is still a very regional sport. People in Pittsburgh are generally not going to root for the Dodgers over the Pirates. If the MLB was similar to the NBA where the superstar players are in many cases more popular than the teams they play for I’d agree more.
  5. I said this on Twitter but I think the MLB has done a decent job of putting a system in place that allows the have nots to compete with the haves. Last year the Orioles, Rays, Marlins, Brewers, Twins and Diamondbacks all made the playoffs with lower half payroll teams. A couple of the big spending teams like the Dodgers and Braves didn’t win a playoff round while none of the top 3 payroll teams made the playoffs (Mets, Yankees, Padres). Furthermore the Dodgers spend ridiculous sums of money and make the playoffs every year but only won a title in the weird pandemic season. But…it is quite ridiculous when a team can sign player that makes more money than the 26 man roster of 1/4 of all baseball teams. Really no way to cap the Dodgers or Mets or whoever from spending however much they want as the luxury tax isn’t enough of a deterrent for them even after increasing the penalties. The only step would be a salary cap but that’s never happening for a variety of reasons.
  6. Ohtani now has a higher AAV than the payrolls of 8 different teams last year lol
  7. Can imagine how ****** it must feel as a Jays fan today. We somehow deluded ourselves (to some degree) into thinking that no noise from our camp somehow meant we were in it. But the Jays had actual national baseball writers reporting he was en route to Toronto. It would take me awhile to get over that if it happened to the Cubs, similar to "Wade to the Bulls is imminent" reporting in 2010.
  8. Lmao they are still going at this edit: beaten oh well. Hilarious spin
  9. I'm very interested to see how much is deferred and what the CBT tax hit is on an annual basis. You can rightfully argue that the Cubs were right to not match or exceed $700m offer (and who knows maybe they did but he just chose the Dodgers lol), but if its only like a $30m annual cap hit can you really say "the Cubs wouldnt have been able to compete with that contract on the books?". Then it becomes a matter of the Cubs simply not wanting to spend all that money on a baseball player even if laid out over 20+ years. Which again, I'm not necessarily criticizing the Cubs for, just pointing it out.
  10. Apparently a crapload of the money is deferred long term so that the Dodgers can balance the competitive tax and add more talent around him.
  11. Or when they posted a picture of Las Vegas pretending to be at the Winter Meetings but the sign in the background was advertising a show that ended a few years before.
  12. Trying to remember the timeline but there was a decent gap between Arson Judge and the news that the Yankees resigned him predicting the Yankees isn’t surprising though not sure how he nailed the contract. it’s possible that people like this involved in sports gambling hear rumors and stuff from their Vegas contacts and some turn out to be legit sourced while most end up being rumors that end up not being true which explains the low hit rate but occasionally nailing one.
  13. Could just be jumping on this CJ dudes post but
  14. How does the news finally break for Ohtani? -Mainstream reporter (Rosenthal, Heyman, etc) -Local beat reporter -Team Twitter account -Players Tribune article -Ohtani holds a press conference to announce -Japanese news source translated into English -Other?
  15. Ok as I’ve read more and more I can see that he is openly mocked for being wrong on reports. False alarm, stick with PlaymakerDavid though of course.
  16. clearly he’s just more connected with baseball. Yeah that’s it
  17. I mean…7000 followers and has numerous receipts of things that he reported before the big reporters with timestamps though might just be one of those people that throws everything against the wall and brags about the rare wins. other people are talking to him like he might know what he’s talking about though
  18. The skeptic posts what I just posted. The other side of me is thinking “ITS ALL CONNECTED PLAYMAKERDAVID WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG!”
  19. Fergie has been “recruiting” Ohtani to Chicago for the last week. Could just be referencing the fact that everyone thought he was a Blue Jay and suddenly he’s still available. and the PA guy could just be trolling and is referring to Counsell or maybe we’re about to make another signing
  20. What time zone do you live in? The Toronto stuff was like 3 hours ago lol
  21. Jed is definitely behind this. Doing whatever it takes to win
  22. Yes except for the forget they exist part. They come out of nowhere
  23. Someone tweeted a photo of Robert Herjavec (Shark Tank) walking off the plane that was supposed to be carrying Ohtani. Obviously could be one of the numerous fake things reported today but pretty funny if true Edit: someone at the CBC is also reporting this.
  24. This jives with my experience with Toronto fans. You almost forget they exist until something good happens for them and then they become extremely obnoxious and over the top. Doesn’t surprise me that someone noticing a plane chartered to go from LA to Toronto would lead to rampant speculation, camping out at airports, mlb reporters getting owned with false reporting, etc
