  1. So basically he's a Cardinals fan that thinks its funny to rile up Cubs fans for no reason? Phew, at least that means he doesn't actually believe what he's writing. I'm relieved.
  2. Five years ago, you could still believe in wins as a stat and simply be considered behind the times. But if you don't have some sort of evidence that you were in a coma, monastary, or frozen Encino Man style, we have to assume that you're choosing to remain ignorant rather than attempt intelligent conversation. Stop wasting our time. Sorry, Rob. But you and your confused ilk have yet to provide any stat that is more important than wins for a starting pitcher, especially one that is paid over $18 million a year. What's more important WHIP? Other stats have importance but not to the degree of wins. Your expectations seem quite low and indicative of your understanding. Come on man. Let's say Pitcher A has a 12.47 ERA and a 23.68 WHIP and averaging 300 innings per year over his last 3 years, and Pitcher B has a 1.21 ERA and a 0.43 WHIP and also averaging 300 innings per year over his last 3 years. However, Pitcher A plays for Team A, whose offense produces 25 runs per game, and Pitcher B plays for Team B who averages 0.43 runs per game. Because of this, Pitcher A went 19-1, 18-2, 24-1 over his last 3 years, while Pitcher B has had records of 4-20, 6-16, and 1-23 over his last 3 years. Both Pitcher A and Pitcher B are free agents this offseason. Team C is looking at both. Their offense averages 5.24 runs per game, they are a midsized team who cannot afford to make the incorrect decision between the 2 pitchers. Who should Team C choose? You will argue that this is an exaggerated example because no team scores 25 runs a game or as little as 0.43 runs per game. But your argument is that wins are the most important stat to judge a pitcher by so it doesn't matter because Pitcher A dominates that category. Case closed. Unfortunately Team C chooses Pitcher A, and their GM benchwarmer is fired one season later.
  3. Obviously I don't know any more than what I posted (about being the entire deal), but you make it sound like getting both Burrell and Castillo is a good thing. I don't think it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if both of them required more than just Bradley. Than again, maybe when you completely factor in their large contracts, I could be wrong.
  4. Cano isn't a bad hitter and I think he'd make a great Cub. How about Z for Cano and 2 of the Yanks best minor league OF? Wins continue to be the best statistic for measuring the success of a starting pitcher. Still waiting for any proof that the really great starting pitchers average less than 14 wins for their career. You obviously don't have an answer. I don't know why I bother after you ignored everything the last time you brought this [expletive] up. Ted Lyons averaged 12.3 wins per season and is in the hall of fame. Chief Bender averagesd 13.25. Jim Bunning averaged 13.17 Steve Carlton averaged 13.7 Nolan Ryan averaged 12. Phil Niekro averaged 13.25 Early Wynn averaged 13.04 Red Ruffing averaged 12.41 Eppa Rixey averaged 12.66 Red Faber averaged 12.7 Herb Pennock averaged 10.91 Waite Hoyt averaged 11.29 Clark Griffith averaged 11.29 Jesse Haines averaged 11.05 Hal Newhouser averaged 12.18 Rube Marquard averaged 11.17 Dazzy Vance averaged 12.3 Ed Walsh averaged 13.93 John Ward averaged 9.65 Sandy Koufax averaged 13.75 Owned.
  5. Also I don't think that could be the entire deal. I could be wrong but I don't think Bradley alone could get us Burrell and Castillo. If we had to give money or prospects in that deal, I definitely wouldn't even think of doing it.
  6. Maybe. I don't really think Luis Castillo would help our team out very much. Plus we probably would have had to accept just as crappy of a contract for Burrell. OK no contract could ever be as crappy as Silvas but still.
  7. Or people start believing there's something magical behind the streak.
  8. They can be, but they are also very rare. I'd much rather have a franchise tackle than tight end. Most "next big thing" TE's just wind up as role players and/or interchangable parts. And of course Chicago doesn't even try to get Olsen the ball in the red zone. unless it's a fade route on 4th and goal from the 1.
  9. holy crap what pathetic thing to admit. It's one thing to think that but to say it outload to the media makes you look P
  10. F you were determined to trade Z this would probably be a good fit as theoretically the Yankees would probably consider his contract to be less of an issue than any other team giving the Cubs some leverage to get a good deal.
  11. Jay Cutler's QB rating for the year is now 71.1, which is 23th in the league between Chad Henne (74.9) and Brady Quinn (70.6). Yes his QB rating is for the year is almost the same as Brady [expletive] Quinn's
  12. Wow I didn't realize how tough the Hawks schedule is coming up... 2 different back to backs this week, the first one on Tues/Web vs. SJ (Pacific leader) and @ Detroit (Detroit) then on Saturday and Sunday they play a home and home against the team right behind them in the Central (Nashville). Then after a day off they head to Dallas for a game (more average team but on the road), and then finally after another game off they play at home against the team with the best record in the league, NJ on New Years Eve. I have complete confidence that the Hawks will more than hold their own against this schedule. Instead of fearing an upcoming tough schedule, I am looking forward to it. So unlike other Chicago sports.
  13. The Hawks are projected to finish with a 56-19-7 with 118 points. That's amazing and would be the most points in franchise history (previous high is 107). I know the points are given out much differently than before and in a way that gives teams more points, but that's still pretty awesome. It would also be the most wins in franchise history (previous high 49) but again, wins are much more common nowadays.
  14. That's 2 consecutive shutouts for Huet isn't it?
  15. This is a dumb question, but when a team wins in a shootout, they are given a "goal" in the final score, so if the Hawks win in a shootout, it's 3-2 Hawks or something. Does that goal count in the teams goals allowed stats? I'm assuming it doesn't, but I think it's a dumb way to present a final score IMO. I look at overtimes and shootouts like the game ends in a tie and both teams get a point, but they continue playing for that extra point. I don't know, it sounds weird that way but I hate the idea of OTL's. I'd rather them present the score as "Chicago 2 Detroit 2. Chicago wins in shootout 2-1" or something like that instead of "Chicago 3 Detroit 2 F/SO"
  16. Yep, with I think at least one game in hand on all of them. 1 game in hand over SJ (47 pts), 2 games in hand over Nashville (47 points), and 3 games in hand over LA (47) and Colorado (46)
  17. Since no other top WC teams are in action tonight, a win would give the Blackhawks sole possession of the number 1 seed in the West for the night. Edit: And only 2 points behind NJ and PIT for most points in hockey. The only team that has more points/game than the Hawks is the Devils, who will have had 2 more points than the Hawks with the same number of games played. We'll pass them in due time :)
  18. I thought they weren't playing their best for awhile, but since the Buffalo game I felt like the quality of play has picked way up and back to normal standards. Gotta love being a fan of a team where you don't just expect to beat every team in the league, you expect to beat every team in the league by multiple goals.
  19. The C with a cute little cubby bear on it would look awful on our home jerseys. It would give our opponents the message of "we haven't won a world series in 102 years but we have cute cuddly little bears on our uniforms"
  20. The media is hammering Lovie with job security questions. Lovie doesn't look comfortable breaking away from him "There is a lot of games left to play" mantra.
  21. 43 and 33 are his other lows this year. He had a 32 and a 45 in 2007 OK so 3 of his 4 lowest QB ratings have come this year. Yay? PS Does anyone know the best way to wash a hat without one of those plastic hat things without it shrinking? I am assuming if I run it in the dishwasher and let it air dry it should be ok
  22. JC's QB rating will end up 7.8 for the game, a new low for his career. Interestingly enough, I'll have to look this up to be sure but I think the 3 lowest QB ratings of his career have come this year.
  23. Unbelievable. My dog just literally vomited directly onto my Bears hat. Wow, was that a statement by my dog or what? OK buddy I get it no more watching Bears games.
  24. 26 INTs Oh wait that was Haine.
