  1. If the Hawks lost this game, look forward to a local sportswriter blaming the presence of the Cubs for the loss.
  2. Nashville was sending in two forecheckers a lot. I don't know if that's baiting the Hawks into the breaks or just risking them. I noticed that too, which made me wonder the same thing about baiting the Hawks. I wouldn't be surprised because they seemed to have their defenders positioned well once the Hawks player got past the forecheckers. Maybe Nashville is trying to avoid the Hawks getting into sustained possessions in the Preds zone and instead drawing them into this style of play. I don't know if that's smart though because it takes one defensive lapse and you're playing from behind. Sharp's breakaway could have easily been that moment for them.
  3. I was thinking the same thing. Which is a little weird because unlike the Cubs, the Hawks had playoff success the year before. But I think its more about the fact that most fans view this as their best opportunity to win the cup, everyone has picked them, everyone knows how topsy turvy the first round has been to other teams, and we've pretty much been waiting for the playoffs to start since the first day of the season giving fans enough time to consider every possible outcome in the playoffs, including the one that panics them which is losing in the first round.
  4. Hawks need to focus on puck control more in the 2nd period. They have been trying to start fast breaks to the net when they've gotten possession in the neutral zone which has led to a couple good chances but no sustained possessions in the Nashville zone. I'd like to see them go back to controlling the puck in the Preds zone, get someone down by the net to screen the goalie, and let em fly.
  5. Preds have been outplaying the Hawks for the last 10 minutes or so....they have been controlling the puck as well as the Hawks are supposed to.
  6. This crowd has a "Game 1 2008 NLDS" vibe to it.
  7. Ahhh dammit Sharpie had a breakaway!
  8. Hossa has been rather impressive early on.
  9. Finally we clear it...just as I get done saying the Preds possessions inside our zone have been short they get a long long time in there.
  10. So far the Hawks have come out with a crapload of energy. Some messy passes on the PP though. Couple good chances so far for the Hawks, while the few times the Preds got into our zone we've forced a TO right away.
  11. All I remember from Buff in the playoffs was slyly blocking the goalie leading to a lot of the team's goals.
  12. I just read a Predators blog, and they are pretty confident that they are going to win. Their belief is that Nashville got off to a bad start and since mid-October they have been as good as the Hawks over that timespan.
  13. I'm trying to decide if I want to cheer for the Canucks or Kings in their series. Normally I'd root for the upset, but if the Kings win their series, assuming the Blackhawks and Sharks end up winning their series as well, the Blackhawks will have to face the winner of the Wings/Coyotes series in the 2nd round. Despite a topsy turvy opening night of the playoffs, I still expect the Sharks and Wings to advance in their respective series.
  14. Dammit I was just about to write a post about how Tracy needed to be taken behind the woodshed, and then he doubles.
  15. So will I, but we shouldn't have to settle. This game was very winnable. So you'd have been more satisfied if we got blown out today?
  16. A good team goes 5-1 on a homestand against the Brewers and Astros, 4-2 at worst assuming they aren't slumping at the moment. I'd like to see us get a minimum 2 out of 3 vs. the Astros and come out of this homestand at .500
  17. Shark's ERA - 16.20 Grablows' ERA - 9.82
  18. You know I still believe in the 'bullpen is a crapshoot' theory, but it doesn't mean pick 6 random minor league pitchers, and see what happens. We all saw this coming from a mile away. The question is, without making drastically bad trades, what can we do to fix this?
  19. Anyone else. Samardzija is right now the worst pitcher in the pen. Agreed. But obviously the Cubs aren't ready to accept their $10 million as a sunk cost just yet. If you spent $10 million on an unproven relief pitcher (lets not argue the merit of drafting/signing him in the first place), wouldn't you give him way more chances to prove himself than lets say Justin Berg?
  20. Someone suggest who should be out there in a situation where the Cubs go into the inning down 1 run in the 8th inning. Lou keeps thowing Shark out there because there are not even enough proven bullpen arms to pitch the 8th with a 1 run lead, much less a 1 run defecit, and also because Shark is getting a crapload more money to pitch for the Cubs than any of the other guys in the pen, and they have to exhaust all options before they ruin his confidence and send him back to AAA yet again. It's not an ideal situation, nor do I really agree, but I'm not signing the paychecks so...
  21. I keep checking back every inning or so to see another Cubs reliever giving up a run. Can't these guys even go 1 inning without runs scoring?
  22. Yup, was pointed out by the OP. Sad sad statistic.
  23. Outside of Prince, Braun and Gallardo no one on the Brewers impresses me (unless I'm missing someone, maybe McGehee, I don't know). They aren't that good of a team. Ricky Weeks. Weeks is like Corey Patterson redux: He's been highly unimpressive his entire career, save about half a season that ended early when he got hurt. I have to believe this season is his last chance in Milwaukee. You're right in that he's been very streaky, but I don't think it's his last chance in Milwaukee. For one, your talking about a small market team like Milwaukee that isn't gonna give up on someone like Weeks that quickly. Also, his last 300 ABs suggest that he's starting to put it together consistently. I do tend to think highly of Weeks because I always pick him on my fantasy leagues hoping he breaks out. But pretty much everyone involved with Weeks thinks he is capible of putting up a .275/.360/.500 season with 25-30 SBs as well.
  24. WOW Colorado gets a goal with 49 seconds left and beats the Sharks. I still think the Sharks will win this series, but after what's happened to them in the playoffs in the past, there is going to be a lot of pressure and doubt creeping into their heads if they struggle in game 2. Amazing, 3 of the 4 games had the road team winning, and the one that didn't, the team that was probably the favorite lost. I hope this trend doesn't keep up.
  25. WINGS LOSE!
