  1. It's not always a bad idea if you are seeing the ball particularly well.
  2. This is one of those games where we probably should have won that we didn't (or might not). The pitching as usual was solid, we just can't hit worth a lick.
  3. Dempster completely dominated Jones in that AB too...he got him way behind in the count, got him to swing at a pitchers pitch, and got weak contact and a grounder. If we had a real SS, we'd still be winning. God just doesn't want us to get over .500
  4. I knew that little 30 hopper that Theriots limited range couldn't get was going to come back to haunt us.
  5. Not good enough to justify his ridiculous contract.
  6. Another legendary voice silenced. :( Yeah lots of old time announcers dying. Well just him and Kalas off the top of my head but still. Reaper, if you touch Scully, you will regret it.
  7. Damn that sucks...but you knew it was coming. RIP.
  8. Aramis needs to start making some errors so I can start calling him "ErrorMiss" again.
  9. Why are they singing "Beat It" in the crowd?
  10. Easily. And not just because the pain is newer. I was slightly depressed for a couple of weeks in 08. In 03, a couple of days...although mostly because I lived near Boston at the time and got to watch all the Red Sox fans suffer the next day.
  11. Really? If anyone that's what I'd think an outsider would expect an average Cub fan to act like if they brought him up, but would be shocked that the fan responded with a shoulder shrug. I've been to at least 100 Cubs games since 2003, and I cannot honestly recall one time that Bartman's name was brought up. And that's among a crowd of the drunkest, averagest Cubs fans you can find. Actually, the only time I do remember Bartman being mentioned at Wrigley since 03 was in 04.
  12. Yeah, I've been pretty down on Versteegs play this playoffs (actually the 2nd half of the season). Kind of funny that he scored that goal about 5 seconds after a horrific blunder, losing the puck when he was right in front of the net with Luongo down. But he redeemed himself. Last year when he was getting Calder nominations, I think people would have expected him to step up more this year, but if anything he stepped down a bit. Still, he's not a horrible 3rd or 4th line winger I guess.
  13. Those don't count because they didn't advance at all. If they had won and "advanced" to a championship, then it would be a great playoff run. Edit: Fine, "relive their only playoff run ever as a franchise."
  14. Wait, all of the last 102 years? That was better than the 7 times during those years that they actually made it to the WS? In UMFan's defense, there were no playoffs for any of those. They simply won the league and went to the WS. That's exactly what I meant. I mean I'm sure 1945 was fun but there was no playoff run, just a 6 game playoff exit. That playoff run was just about as enjoyable as 2008's I'm sure.
  15. I'm not watching that 30 for 30. All the other ones have been very entertaining and informative, but I just can't re-live that night. I just can't. There was a time in my life where I didn't want to relive that night. Then the calendar turned to 2004 and I got over it. I actually kind of like seeing shows like this. At the very least it will help me relive the only halfway decent playoff run in the last 102 years of our franchise's history.
  16. OMG NO: I'm singing Chelsea Dagger with a broken heart today. da...da da da...da da daaaa...da da da da da da da...
  17. They have only been in one 3-1 hole to even attempt to. Obviously you don't want to put yourself in a 3-1 hole, but I wouldn't count the Hawks out if they got into one. It just wouldn't be likely to beat a team thats probably as talented as the Hawks 3 straight times.
  18. Eh, with the CBA likely being revised to be less favorable to the players after next season (i think), I doubt that would be an option. I've heard people suggest that in the past and shot down for that reason. Some of the ideas being thrown around include 4 year contracts being the max length and only 2 years being guaranteed. Meaning he'd get more guaranteed money taking the full 7 year max deal now with the Cavs than signing for 3 years and then signing a new "max deal" that only guarantees him 2 more years. This scenario is also being used to explain why many players might resign with their current teams or demand sign and trades, because this might be their last huge payday of their careers.
  19. Not sure if you are responding to me but who is freaking out over Vinny?
  20. With LeBron having four years left on his five year deal. That's not a problem. Besides, LeBron, Rose, Noah and whoever's left after the sign and trade would be enough to win a title with Vinny still coaching. Cal would win a title with that core. Probably multiple. Yeah, seems to me that the NBA is about having the superstar talent. Being able to draw up the best plays and sets doesn't appear to me to have the same effect it does in college. Put Lebron & Rose on the same team -- that's a Conference favorite for years to come, regardless of coaching. If there's some possible way to land Lebron, the Bulls would be fools to not pursue it. Yeah, I think coaching in the NBA is all about managing egos, knowing how to get the most out of your players, and being likable. I mean does anyone regard Phil Jackson as a great X and O's coach? Everyone knows Tex was the mind behind the triangle offense, while Phil was handing out random books on road trips to reach his players. But Phil is the most successful coach in the game today because he was able to take 3 different superstar laden teams to championships (MJ/Pip, Shaq/Kobe, Kobe/Gasol). I mean I am trivializing it a bit because there are tons of coaches that implement styles and schemes that make a team better (D'Antoni, Skiles, Jeff Van Gundy, etc). But on a superstar laden team that's much less important.
  21. It's just a really odd thing to say, so I hope the quote was taken out of context. To admit after getting destroyed that you underestimated the skill of the opponent is just a really perplexing thing to admit. Especially when people have rightly or wrongly questioned the team's overconfidence affecting their performances for awhile now.
  22. Did anyone catch this quote by Kane after Game 1? Are you serious? I'm assuming they didn't treat Game 1 like that despite the result, but if they are honestly thinking that before the series starts, that's mind boggling.
