  1. Well its just like last year. Pretty much after the debacle in Cincinnati everyone pretty much knew things were toast. With all the injuries we had on defense and the inconsistent offense, any good team we placed was going to have their way with us. We started 3-1, lost a close game to Atlanta that actually made me feel good about them and then got embarrassed 45-10 by Cincinnati. I think people kind of sensed what was happening. And before we knew it we had lost 8 of 10 games. This year I feel slightly better than we did last year mostly because the defense will keep us in games, whereas last year any good offense we played I expected them to roll over us every single time they had the ball.
  2. Agreed. Either he has the worst self awareness of anyone on the planet, or he's just in public denial. He made several comments immediate after "The Decision" when he heard that fans were burning his jerseys and turning on him. The comments were always like "my true fans in Cleveland will still support me". I couldn't believe at the time that they really believed that there were true "LeBron James" fans in Cleveland that weren't that way because he played for the hometown team. I'm sure there are some but yeah 99% of Cleveland has completely turned their back on him. Even worse, he seems to think all these negative fans are just "haters" like every NBA star has, and it has nothing to do with what happened this summer. He seriously gets offended about hateful tweets. I don't condone those hateful tweets, and the message of some of them, but he cannot be surprised. Tell me he's not surprised that people are telling him to die and calling him racist names. Please just tell me that so I can go back to believing that no one is that naive .
  3. Not sure because he was on the ice when Kanes cup winning goal happened. He only played in 2 SCF games though I believe.
  4. I have a feeling that one of these teams is gonna blow their 3-1 lead. Obviously it's easier to predict the Yankees because they are 1/3 of the way there but I'm not sure. A Rangers/Giants World Series would be bizarre though. That was easily the least likely matchup when the playoffs started.
  5. Not as bad as Luongo. Very true but Turco looked out of position on all 3. I'll take it though. I love owning Vancouver!
  6. Turco looks awful at shootouts.
  7. Technically Mark DeRosa is on the Giants right? He's been out since like May which was like his 2nd month with the team. Has anyone seen him in the dugout during the playoffs or is he not with the team?
  8. Chris Harris also missed practice. As did Briggs and Urlacher. Did anyone on the d practice?
  9. Somebody call a WHAMBULENCE for LeBron James.
  10. Oh yeah, he also plays for the Sharks. Yeah this is the big one for me. Yeah, the other stuff just makes it a little easier. But I'm definitely rooting for Atlanta in the east, because of Buff and Ladd. Anybody else find it odd that the Blackhawks and Penguins have played 7 games already and there are 8 teams who have only played 4 games? It's not just a matter of the European trips either. And it's not about to be reconsiled quickly as Chicago plays 3 times in th next 4 days while Pittsburgh plays twice. My guess would be because we aren't traveling as much with a heavy home schedule in October so there are less off days, whereas in November the Hawks are traveling the majority of the month because of the circus trip.
  11. I'm more annoyed that the Rangers might clinch their first trip to the World Series while I'm sitting at work. I think it's really dumb to have weekend afternoon LCS games. Day playoff games don't feel like playoff games. I think that's why I took Josh Beckett shutting us down in 2003 game 5 so well. It didn't feel like it was a game to get us into the World Series.
  12. Darn if the MLB scheduled their playoff games like the NBA does, he could be back for the last half of the World Series. Too bad.
  13. He thought he could trade Khabi after the signing, which was wrong. But the bigger problem was him allocating that much money to any one goalie in the first place. Unless you are talking about the elite of the elite goalies, you should not pay them nearly that much money. Khabi got too much as well. Khabi did get too much but his value was never higher...or at least was never higher than after he won the Cup before the lockout dulled everything. Hawks were coming out of the lockout and trying to make a splash I guess.
  14. Yeah never understood the need to sign Huet. I know Khabi was leaving after one more season, and I know he had a hot playoffs or something and Tallon was looking to be proactive or something. But after seeing the success we had from Niemi last year due to a strong defense, you have to wonder why Tallon found it so necessary to throw a lot of money at a mostly unproven goalie a full year before he needed a replacement for Khabi.
  15. If they win this, a 3-1 lead with another Cliff Lee start and 2 home games has to be good odds for the Rangers right? (without conjuring up images of the 03 NLCS) Another team making the World Series before the Cubs possibly. Seattle vs. Washington next year?
  16. But there is no doubt we had periods of play where we were less than dominating last season, most notably right before the Olympic break and the last part of March. I cant sit here after 7 games and say we are much worse than last year. We haven't played well as we did in the playoffs or as we did last December, but all factors considered, that doesn't surprise me. I do want to see the prolonged period of domination that we had last year. The kind where it seemed like we won every game for a month 5-2. Where it seemed like no matter who we played, it was obvious to even a novice fan who the superior team was. That's what I'm hoping to see at some point.
  17. Geez, he hasn't even been there that long has he? Little quit pretty quickly and then Torre quit after a couple years too, right? That's right I forgot about Torre leaving and Mattingly replacing him. So theres 3 of them. And only 1 is quasi respected, and that's because he's been able to build an almost respectable team in a tiny market (at least for a couple of years until he traded everyone away for a wild card appearance).
  18. Doug Melvin's going on at least 4. Just looked it up, he's actually only hiring his 3rd this offseason. He was hiring in October 2002, he hired Yost for 2003, then Yost was famously fired in September 2008 and replaced by Dale Sveum. But he was only an interim manager, and to me that doesn't count because it doesn't go against his GM track record. Then after that season he fired Ken Macha for the last 2 years and now will be hiring his 3rd. But Hendry beat him to the punch. I looked up Dombrowski, Jocketty, Colletti, Sabean and none of them have made 3 managerial hires at their current (or St. Louis for Jocketty) position. Dombrowski and Jocketty have won WS, no? Ahh yes that too

I was including Jerry Narron from his Texas days. Wasn't sure if he hired Oates. Ahhh I just meant in the same tenue with the same team. Usually they say a GM gets his one manager hire, sometimes two. Rarely 3, as evidenced by Hendry and soon Melvin being the only 2 active GMs that have had the opportunity to make 3 managing hires. Usually they are fired or move on by now.

  21. What do you think the record is for most managers hired by a single, non-WS winning General Manager? JH is at 3 now.
  22. It's a press conference, take it easy. And its still a meaningless phrase. Saying "he knows how to be a Cub" was criteria they looked for in the next manager is ignorant. I hear ya. I don't want to hear that BS too. But it's a press conference, it's bound to be full of cliches and stupid comments. I doubt Quade went into the interview with JH and said things like "I'm the best choice because I know how to be a Cub". Actually now that I think about it, I bet you that crap was discussed.
  23. I'm not. He sucks.
  24. Well they have 5 minutes to offer that pick to NE before the deadline comes and goes. According to PFT they are asking for a first.
  25. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/10/bears-sign-barry-turner-to-take-charles-grants-spot.html And yet Charles Grant was thought to be a better option until now.
