  1. This. It didn't specify if it was a typical 2010 Cubs loss, or a typical historical Cubs loss.
  2. It was mildly disappointing. I thought there would be more highlights of the various series, important goals, and such. Like Game 5 against Nashville -- how about the whole play to win in OT? The extra were pretty nice though. See I don't think I'll be disapointed tonight when I watch because I kind of expected it to not have a ton of action or parts of games. From what I understood, it's basically a 1 hour movie about the Hawks season, not necessarily a bunch of clips of plays from throughout the season. If you want that get the box set that's apparently coming out in October (I plan to). I also heard the Blu Ray edition isn't the highest quality either. Someone said it was on BR25 instead of dual layer (?!) I have no idea what that means, maybe someone here can explain how that affects the quality of the blu ray.
  3. I thought OleMissCub had cornered the market on girlfriends being stolen by major league pitchers Only pitchers that played in the 50's or earlier.
  4. Did you know... -The 11 runs the Astros scored tonight is a season high -This is only the 2nd time this season the Astros scored 10 runs or more -This is only the 10th time all season the Astros have scored more than 6 runs in a game
  5. Not that I don't respect what he's done, but if we didn't use those loopholes for Hossas contract, we could have saved ourselves from trading Buff, Versteeg, Ladd, and Co. for Hossa. Then again, I probably am not excitedly waiting for my Stanley Cup Champions Blu Ray tomorrow if that happens.
  6. Silva's last 2 starts: 2.1 IP, 13 H, 11 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, 42.43 ERA, 7.71 WHIP Before this meltdown, Silva had given up 12 ER in his last 7 starts (46.2 IP), had given up 5 walks in his last 7 starts as well.
  7. Good for Murt. In a world where Fukudome is considered a prodigious home run hitter and Tuffy Rhodes shares the single season HR mark, it's good to see little red succeed.
  8. I didn't read the article, but the time has passed to replace managers. You are days away from trading key pieces on the team that effecively throws up the white flag on the season and now is the time you want to replace Lou? And I'm sure managerial candidates would be lining up to interview with a team that just pushed a respected manager out the door by forcing him to retire in the middle of the season.
  9. 598 I think BCB emphasized the wrong word. He meant no one will know how many home runs HE really hit. I'm pretty sure a cyborg was responsible for at least 150 or so.
  10. Just for fun....if the Cardinals and the Reds both went .500 the rest of the way, the Cubs would have to go 44-25 the rest of the way to tie the Cardinals. The problem is that there are 2 teams way ahead of the Cubs. If there was only 1 team, I'd say having a big comeback would be possible, if unlikely. But with 2 teams that far ahead, it's nearly impossible unless the Cubs play a 2001 Mariners type pace the rest of the season.
  11. Still an average OPS. For a 20 year old rookie SS?
  12. Not that the cubs are going anywhere this year but it's really encouraging to see them within a caught relay of a 4 game sweep of the phillies. The offense is starting to heat up, something we've been waiting for all year long. It's possible the offense was just in a horrific slump all season and is starting to hit to potential, something that has happened to other teams before. Or maybe it's just a mirage - a brief moment of competency in a lost year.
  13. And beat them he did.
  14. I don't see the appeal for Markakis. He's a good player, gets on base which is great, but his .801 OPS last year and .839 OPS this year don't do it for me in a corner OF spot for $10+ million
  15. Yeah he really is putting all the blame on Soto. I mean Soto did screw that up big time, but he didn't make Marmol walk 2 hitters before and didn't give up the single.
  16. One geo caught ball from 'maybe things are turning around'. Now its back to the tailspin.
  17. same here. it seems to sell out within 5-8 minutes. i tried for the washington game and was told no tickets available for 200 section by 10:07. I just pulled up 2 tickets in the 200 level for the washington game, but they were club level, $250 seats. Screw that. Another thing I hate about ticketmaster is that can't look for best available under lets say $100 or something. If you search for 2 tickets at the $68 range, you are really narrowing down your chances of pulling tickets, especially if you don't mind paying anything under $100. But if you search best available, you always end up with some $250 tickets you can't afford.
  18. shut out for the 2nd year in a row. I got lucky and got 2 tickets to a game in 2007 but since then nothing.
  19. I don't know...with the internet, 400 different cable channels, MLB Extra innings, MLB.tv, I don't think having the games on WGN has the effect it used to. The Cardinals aren't on KMOX anymore and the Braves aren't on TBS anymore, so I guess they don't think it's a big deal either.
  20. Look 6-7 posts above yours
  21. I like Brewer as well. I would have really liked to have had at least 1 starter have a proven track record of hitting 3 pointers. Deng can sometimes hit them at maybe a 30% clip. I think Brewer is a career 28-29% 3 point shooter. And Rose claims he can hit 3's but who knows for sure, and plus ideally he is the person who is supposed to benefit from having a long range shooter in the lineup, not the person shooting the 3's. Having Korver will help, but he's probably playing 20 minutes a game tops, and there will be times because of game situation and his lack of defensive abilities that we cannot have him in the game.
  22. He turns 33 soon, and will be 35 before his contract is up. I wouldn't be upset if they traded him, and I hope they do it before 2012. I'd want a really good return this year for him since he's really cheap again next year, but I'd try hard to trade him at next year's deadline. I honestly don't see the appeal of keeping Byrd. He's been decent for us this year, and I guess inexpensive, but like jersey said he's 33. That's why he's cheap. He's not getting any better, and at best he's only moderately above average hitter. Doesn't walk/get on base enough, is ok in the field but not great. You could do a lot better in CF IMO. You could also do a lot worse, so I don't mind keeping him if the right deal comes along. I'm not saying dump him just to dump him. It's not like him being signed would keep us from acquiring another much better CF if one came around. He'd be a great 4th OF.
  23. I agree that we have a solid roster as you put it together. The problem, and it's unavoidable, is depth. There ain't none. So if we have a charmed season without injuries, everything will be fine. But if we have a Detroit-like season, this team could miss the playoffs. Yeah but if most teams had the injuries Detroit had last season, they miss the playoffs. They had a crapload of talent out with injuries. It would be like if Kane (Zetterberg), Hossa (Holmstrom), Sharp (Franzen), Campbell (Kronwall), and Bolland (Cleary) all missed at least 20 games in the season, and at one point several of them at the same time. I'm not worried about the worst case scenario because most teams aren't going to survive that. Plus, I don't know if I'm correct in this line of thinking so correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like we have a lot of unproven talent in both the backend of our roster and in Rockford. The talent isn't necessarily high potential talent, maybe medium potential. So I feel like if some of the guys on the bottom 2 lines fail, we should be able to find a reasonably effective pairing by mixing and matching throughout the season. That said, due to those depth issues, as well as possible championship hangover, I'm not going into the season expecting to be good enough to beat any team on any night like I felt last year. But I think the potential is there, with a little luck on our side, to be a top team in the conference.
  24. Agreed...Morrow over Redick was a no brainer to begin with. Ironic that supposedly the Bulls went after Redick because they thought he was more likely not to be matched. Bad judgement there as Morrow is a Net and Redick all but returning back to Orlando. Also, I would have died to have Raja Bell on this team. He signed for 3 years 10 mil from Utah, but the Bulls were offering 2 years 8 mil and wouldnt goto a 3rd year. I know he's 33, but I can live with a 3 year deal to improve the team as much as he would have.
