  1. That's kind of scary. He resigned suddenly, and won't reveal publicly why. Why would you do that if you didn't have something else lined up.
  2. Gotta love when a guy hits a double the very next pitch after a caught stealing.
  3. You know the Brewers are on pace for 96 wins and hold a ~10 game lead in the division right?
  4. If the Cubs walked any less, they'd have to change their name to the Chicago Stephen Hawkings. Really?
  5. I had a feeling once I saw LaHair was coming up, mostly because I doubt Leake has much of a book on him. Then when he went up 2-0 I had a great feeling. Good stuff.
  6. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/mlb-playoffs-seeding-races-news-and-n... This is from Ken Rosenthal's column. He rips on Ricketts for the Fleita extension. Here is the Cubs' part:
  7. I guess Chris Carpenter was not thrilled about not getting called up...
  8. PS I was able to access Bruce's blog without any issues just now.
  9. If true, I'm sorry Bruce, I enjoy your reporting, but I'm not going to pay for it when I can get tons of free information on the web. I guess I can understand why the DH is doing this, although I think it will blow up in their face. They must be one step away from bankrupcy to be trying that.
  10. At least we have the computers on our side.
  11. It worked for Sammy Sosa. Career OBP pre-1998: .308 Career OBP post-1998: .372 The problem is, a lot of agressive hitters seem to get exploited in the minors for their free swinging ways and never make it in the bigs long enough to get that kind of treatment from pitchers. I am not exactly asking for super patient prospects, I'd be ok with average patience from them.
  12. And its funny that the team that South Florida beat that vaulted them from unranked to 5th, is out of the top 25 in his poll. If they were such a juggernaut, why aren't they ranked anymore? Also, Oregon loses to his new number 1 in pretty much a road game and drops all the way to 25th? wow
  13. My bad, sorry about that. Look at this one dude's ballot: http://thegazette.com/2011/09/06/my-ap-top-25-ballot-1-lsu/ He has South Florida #5, Northwestern #14, Maryland #19, Houston #23, Michigan #24, Oregon #25.
  14. New AP poll is out. Nothing too insane. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm 1 OU (43) 2 Bama (9) 3 LSU (7) 4 FSU 5 Boise St. 6 Stanford 7 OK St 8 Texas A&M 9 Wisconsin 10 Nebraska 11 Va Tech 12 South Carolina 13 Arkansas 14 Oregon 15 OSU 16 MSU 17 Miss St. 18 Florida 19 Missouri 20 Penn St. 21 Texas 22 Auburn 23 ASU (NR) 24 WVU (NR) 25 TCU (dropped out: Notre Dame and Georgia)
  15. What a surprise, Ryan Braun still looks like a giant douche.
  16. Fingers crossed. Rams receivers will be completely over-matched by the Philly secondary, but this will allow Lance Kendricks to begin his ascent as the greatest tight end in NFL history. He's going to eat up the weak Philly linebacker corps. My pick is just a feeling. While I am not biting on Bill Simmons' theory that the Eagles as a whole will be overwhelmed by playing in a dome, the fact is they are starting a really inexperienced offensive line, so that should hurt playing in a potentially loud dome.
  17. I do feel a little better knowing that there are 6 teams that actually have more cap space than us, according to this: http://blogs.nfl.com/2011/08/29/updated-salary-cap-space-numbers-for-all-32-teams/ Of course the teams with more are smaller market or not contending teams like KC, TB, Cin, Jax, Den, Buf. I do think it would be stupid to spend money just to eat up cap space, but with the number of WR and OL out there this FA period it just dumbfounded me why we went dumpster diving.
  18. Yay now we get tentative, don't get injured Forte this year. So the Bears are going to play a season nearly $20 mil under the cap. Thanks Jerry. We'll be sure to remember who made this possible when our season falls short due to one or several fatal flaws. Personally, I don't think giving Forte (or any RB) a huge pile of money is a great idea. That said, I do think he has outplayed his contract and have a hard time being against rewarding him. I just don't want him to go to FA without a deal. I'm just annoyed because I kept hearing the Bears didn't spend more in FA in part because a chunk of that cap space was going to Forte. Now we are just sitting here 17-18 million under with no desire to spend it. It is possible that Forte was being unreasonable with his demands though.

  20. Angelo also said that these are the four best safeties that he's had on the Bears. I'm trying to figure out if he's including Venable, Conte or Steltz in that statement. Somewhere Mike Brown is crying
  21. Hey, I'm sure you have some insights on Meriweather that we don't have. Can you give us a scouting report?
