  1. Not following that. that definitely doesn't make any sense. They are just jealous that their baseball team has as many leaks as the titanic, while the Cubs are stealthy. Or they could have very good reason to state their claim. I doubt a team is just going to throw this out there without some kind of proof. You'd be surprised what the Boston media would throw out there just to see if it stuck. This isn't the 1920's and you can no longer take everything the media says at face value. In fact, the general rule should be to not trust anything you hear in the media until multiple sources confirm it. And besides, what he said didn't even make sense. What does ricketts firing Hendry in July and asking him to work through mid-august have anything to do with tampering? Do you think he was having Jimbo call Theo about a trade and then slipping in a 'hey, btw...if my position was ever open, do you think you'd ever be willing to work for the Cubs? No no totally just wondering"
  2. I remember no one really considered him to be anything but an average poster instead he started getting all 'bro' on us by acting like some badass frat boy and also bragging about scalping Cubs tickets for profit. I feel like that's when people started to turn on him. As far as why he got banned, I can't quite put my finger on why either. Same with da Bum. I know 100 reasons why I would have banned him, but I don't remember why exactly the trigger was pulled. I think he went off on people ripping on him about stuff and probably said some things that weren't acceptable.
  3. Expectations media attention will certainly be very high in Chicago. But they were out of control in Boston. Chicago will still be very demanding of course, but I think he's right that it won't be Boston-demanding. I can see that. You have to remember that Boston is a much smaller market and town. Boston proper has 20% of the population of Chicago, and Boston metro is a little more than half the size of Chicago metro. People think Chicago is provincial, but New England is truly provincial. There are not a ton of outsiders in NE/Boston. They all were born there, grew up there, and now live and work there. Everyone cares about the Red Sox. Chicago has a lot more factors. They have a significant population of transplants from Michigan, St. Louis, Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio. Not to mention that 40% of the city roots for the other in town team. Granted, whatever I say about Chicago having transplants, its tenfold in New York. But New York is such an overwhelming place, and the co-center of media in the US, they can totally obsess over everything the Yankees do and there will be an audience willing to follow it. Chicago has its own pressures. No one ever said the media here takes it easy on our sports teams. We have some of the biggest a-hole reporters in the country that want nothing more than to bring down players that don't treat them properly. The fans are passionate enough to boo the [expletive] out of people when things aren't going well, and have always been willing to turn on an underperforming player and drive them out of town. If Theo thinks he's going to have a southern cal laid back existance in Chicago, he's in for a shock. But I highly doubt he thinks that.

  5. I know we've all been burned by false reports in the past and all of that, but trust me this is a done deal. But obviously Theo is under contract with Boston and will be until the Cubs and Red Sox agree on compensation. The Cubs and Red Sox are in different leagues, so it doesn't hurt to utilize Epstein until everything is complete. Not that Cherington would need much ramping up, but I'm sure Theo is doing what he can to get the new GM prepared for the job. It's similar but not exactly like when teams are working out the pieces of a trade for a player. He doesn't leave the team (although he doesnt play for fear of injury. don't think the Cubs are worried about that), he stays with the team until he's not on that team anymore, except in the rare case when they send em home. But obviously Henry and Epstein have always had a strong respectful relationship so he's not going to kick Theo to the curb. With all of the major news outlets reporting the deal as fact, all the analysts discussing how the move effects both teams, all the introspective articles written about Theo and his new career challenge, it would be nearly unprecidented if it didn't happen.
  6. If you don't know why da Bum was banned, I don't know what to tell you.
  7. Oh damn, that was Laddy (not to be confused with Leddy)? I couldn't tell but I was laughing my ass off with the whiffs. The Carcillo collision with Hossa happened right in front of me. Had SCF flashbacks there.
  8. Oh that's right, you are too young to be a part of the original NSBB photo thread. im pretty sure i've looked through that thread, but a lot of the photos were down and a lot of the people who posted in it were people who were before my time ah yeah. That was a fun thread...back in the day when Facebook didn't exist so you had no idea what people looked like unless they felt like sharing. Anyways, if you want to see what I look like, look up Tony DeMaria on Facebook, I don't think I have much in the way of privacy settings so feel free to oogle me to your hearts content.
  9. How could you? Someone was jokingly suggesting we do another best poster tournament, but I think we should do a "best banned or departed posters tournament". We all know Bum would win it, but deciding who he plays in the final would be fun. Banned Bracket: Deucebaseman YanrSlatr CubbieBum Mizzou wrigley23 (is he still an active member?) ZZ Thorn reds44 Many many more...... Voluntarily left bracket: Jon DiamondJaxx 1/2 of VancetheCubsFan gooney's evil twin (I know) JC Chocolate Milk Meph sunnydoo frostwyrm (nominated solely for politics thread contributions) Forgot about Meph and JC, thought about CM but left him out on accident. RedFlash and CUBSFANINSTL are 2 more I came up with.

  11. They don't have Theo anymore. I'd be surprised if anyone left in that front office knew what OBP was much less WAR. WAR? What is it good for? Evaluating baseball players.
  12. I get that hiring a GM isn't as exciting as winning a WS, and I also get that Cubs fans have annointed many false saviors in our past only to be let down. But think about it this way: in 2006 we were a horrible baseball team with a manager who believed that walks 'clog the bases' and who has to play his vets over younger talent in lost seasons. Our ownership was a cold bland corporate entity where the Cubs were like 3% of their total assets and a corporation that was starting to nosedive financially. Our president of baseball operations had no concrete plan and oversaw the building of sad sack teams like: the 97 Cubs, the 99 Cubs, the 2000 Cubs, the 2002 Cubs, and the 2006 Cubs. Our general manager also had no concrete plan other than the emulate the last World Series champion, even if the current team was not built in that way. Simply put, our organization was a mess and despite their best efforts, it was/is still a mess in 2011. There was no reason to feel any assurance that management knew what they were doing, and your best hope as a Cubs fan is that they would stumble into a lucky team every 3rd year that by dumb luck sort of came together for 1 year. But then of course we knew that, in trying to improve the team, would only mess it up for the next couple of years. The Ricketts came about. And he cares. He's not a soulless corporate entity. He is willing to open his mind to explore what makes baseball teams successful. He's willing to invest in a long term plan, etc etc etc. But in order to be successful, he needed to hire the right man. And he did. This move completely changes everything about the Cubs. No longer do we have to feel like our management is incompetent. We can relax a little bit and trust that our baseball people are going to get the right people. If Hendry signed something we weren't in favor of, it was 45 pages of bashing him and the move. If Epstein does the same, we will immediately try to figure out what we were missing and why we undervalued that person. So why celebrate this by jumping up and down? Because why the [expletive] not.

  14. Not the best quality but here are some iphone shots from the game.
  15. It's not the top of the 8th, the game is over and they are choosing what to eat from the postgame spread. There is no way Boston wants to bring back a lame duck GM that doesn't want to be there anymore and then not get anything in return when he leaves after next year. It just doesn't make sense. This is negotiating 101 and you are somehow getting fooled by it. Luchino pulled this same crap in 1995 when one of his guys wanted to take a GM spot in Detroit. We all knew it would be a brutal negotiation up front so let's not flip out when they can't immediately make a deal. Were 95% there with the 5% accounting for a last second change of heart.
  16. Nope, and you've officially crossed the line. Congrats
  17. Also, if you want to talk about Chris Harris getting overhyped, his Madden Rating this year is 92.
  18. Wait, how are we gaining 2 yards on spiked balls? Also, we both got to include false start penalties in there.
  19. Option A: Get sacked Spike Ball Result: 3rd and 17, clock stopped Option B: Spike Ball Get sacked Resule: 3rd and 17, clock ticking.
  20. Jon's not interested in the Cubs anymore the last time I heard from him. Something about hopelessly incompetent front office. But this was back in like 2006, and he remained apathetic for 07 and 08 so I think he's being legit. Edit: Wow, he hasn't posted since May (I believe Jon is still a big Bulls fan) or logged in since August 12th. I thought maybe he'd log on to check out the Theo news but I guess we've lost him as a fan. But that's ok because we have kingkong vs. godzilla
  21. I'm mostly joking but when you spike the ball, you lose a down. When 1 out of every 3 plays is a sack and 1 out of every 3 plays the receiver runs the wrong route and the pass sails over everyone, then it only leaves you 1 legit chance to move the ball for a 1st down.
  22. Exactly. Don't bug me while I'm taking a [expletive] piss for god sakes. If you can't take a leak in peace it would piss you off. LOL! That likes me like Jay more. I can imagine this guy all excitedly coming up to him, not even a big football fan just happy to bump into a former Vandy guy, who happens to be famous. I would prefer that celebrities not hide their true personality and just be a stuck up dick if that's what you are. I remember that story almost a year about involving Quentin Tarrantino and that idiot girl from the PR firm that he was hitting on, and the story she wrote keeps casually mentioning how Jamie Foxx is with them when they leave the bar and go to Q's house, etc. And Foxx never says a word to her or even acknowledges her presence for the entire time he is around them, which seems like it was for several house, at a party, on a long car ride, and at Q's house.
  23. I don't remember that, but that's hilarious
  24. I'm sure CARMINE just had a virus that day.
  25. Gotta love politics.
