  1. Don't forget Ricketts! Yeah I almost put him there, but I wouldn't call him a baseball mind (at least not yet) as he readily admits that he has a lot to learn about baseball, but understands the philosophies that have made teams successful in this era of baseball and is smart enough to hire the right people to make it happen.
  2. See? Even tight lipped owner John Henry is essentially admitting Epstein is a Cub. So for the few of you that are worried this won't happen, stop.
  3. Permanent. I feel like 2/3rds of the top 25 non-mod posters on NSBB would be disqualified if you counted temporary bans. Who among us hasn't enjoyed a temporary ban at some point in NSBB's history? :bye: You haven't been posting with enough edge if you've never gotten a temp ban yet. Thanks again N&G! :)

  5. Yup, but it's 'business as usual' for the Red Sox with Theo hanging out and doing his job.
  6. Who is out there that would be better? Seriously, I have no idea what catching free agents are available. Albert Pujols for catcher!
  7. Hm... no thanks? He's 29 years old and he isn't good behind the plate or at the plate. He hit .202 with RISP last year in 114 at-bats. He has the 7th highest WAR among catches between 2008-2011. I am find with that for my starting catcher. Not a great year last year and rather inconsistent but still a solid catcher. Oh and he's improved behind the plate. Geo had a very, very good 2008 and a very good 2010 and a very bad 2009 and a bad 2011. He's the definition of inconsistent. And as I said, he's 29. He doesn't have that much more room to improve. He's due for a good year according to that. Why not sell him while his value is high. His value might not be lower than right now. That said, we can still get Theo from Boston for less than Geo.
  8. Hm... no thanks? He's 29 years old and he isn't good behind the plate or at the plate. He hit .202 with RISP last year in 114 at-bats. Why do you believe he isn't good behind the plate? Is it because that is the only reason you can justify Koye Hill being played? He didn't hit well in any situation last year FTH? This Soto tangent is very, very un-Theo. Theo would drool over his .393 OBP in 2010.
  9. How about Geo Soto too? Hm...
  10. YES! It's so damn nice to feel comfortable you can get scoring from your first 3 lines again, and makes it easier to allow your 4th line to be a pure checking line.
  11. Option A: -Let your GM that doesn't want to be here anymore take a promotion on a club in the other league -Get compensation for it in the form of a decent prospect -Save $3.5 million this year -Hire your assistant GM who has mentored under Theo and groomed for the job to take the job. Option B: -Force your GM that doesnt want to be there anymore to not take a significant promotion and force him to stay for the last year of his contract -Pay him $3.5 million this year to be a lame duck GM and disgruntled -Get no compensation when he leaves next year -Watch your assistant GM that was supposed to take over for Theo if/when he ever leaves bolt to a division rival (Baltimore) Yeah it sounds like Boston has a lot of leverage to demand Brett Jackson instead of Josh Vitters and has a lot of incentive to force Theo to stay in Boston. Angers me that this is even up for debate
  12. What does that even mean? Allow me to translate from my native language (trolling attention-seeker) to English. What he said roughly translates to "I'm bored, someone please argue with me so I can feel like I'm getting some attention in this thread." I'm assuming he means he thinks there's a 30% chance it falls through. If he's saying he thinks there's only a 30% chance it happens he needs to be slapped. Better start winding up because that's exactly what he's saying (30% Theo comes here)
  13. Eh, I think some perspective is being lost here. Yeah, it's frustrating, but we're talking about a holdup of a few days at the most. It's not like the postseason is done yet, so nobody's really missing out on too much time. I'm sure they want to make the announcement before the World Series starts though so Theo can start putting together his offseason plans. Once the World Series starts, Theo has to continue to remain in limbo for another week or so.
  14. This Phil Rogers quote might have already been posted already but I have a question Can someone make a case to me why the Red Sox are in a terrific position here? Becuase they really arent, and it makes no sense to me why someone would think that.
  15. I doubt it. We had Brandon Lloyd 3 years ago and they could have resigned him if they wanted to. I know he has all the sudden gotten good but I doubt theyd have interest in him.
  16. Clearly Boston hasn't done their homework on the Cubs system. We don't have any Jewish prospects? THE GARZA TRADE HAUNTS US AGAIN I lol'd
  17. I'm sad that no one remembers Yanr anymore. Who can forget the impassioned email he sent to Tim begging for his reinstatement, telling him about how close he was to making his 1,000th post, which he referred to as one of the best moments of his life. How about his strange disability which caused him to misspell every 5th word (not making fun of disabilities if that's what he had, but am laughing at how difficult his posts were to understand)? How about his strange hatred for samoans or whatever that got him banned? BTW, if you don't know who YanrSlatr is you probably joined later than 2004. Yanr was Bum before da Bum was Bum.
  18. They don't have Theo anymore. I'd be surprised if anyone left in that front office knew what OBP was much less WAR. They still have Cherington and Bill James don't forget (unless Theo is able to bring James with him). I know it was more of a joke. They have a lot of fantastic new age baseball minds Boston, while we have 2 (Theo and that Ari dude)
  19. They don't have Theo anymore. I'd be surprised if anyone left in that front office knew what OBP was much less WAR. WAR? What is it good for? Evaluating baseball players. Absolutely nothing, say it again, HuH Whatever Joe Morgan. Stop the hating and embrace the new era of baseball.
  20. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Down to 30% now, eh CC?
  21. I don't care how much you need pitching, you gotta sign Pujols, arguably the best player in baseball over Wilson, arguably a very good number 2 starter coming off a career year. Also Wilson will be 31 next year so its not like he's someone you can pencil in for the next 8 years barring injury. Neither is Pujols, but again, he's the best player in baseball.
  22. They are also shooting some bball outside of the school.
  23. What the what? I feel whatever the media reported back then was taken as complete fact. Didn't the Spanish-American war start due to a bunch of lies posted in newspapers?
  24. that definitely doesn't make any sense. They are just jealous that their baseball team has as many leaks as the titanic, while the Cubs are stealthy. Or they could have very good reason to state their claim. I doubt a team is just going to throw this out there without some kind of proof. You'd be surprised what the Boston media would throw out there just to see if it stuck. This isn't the 1920's and you can no longer take everything the media says at face value. In fact, the general rule should be to not trust anything you hear in the media until multiple sources confirm it. And besides, what he said didn't even make sense. What does ricketts firing Hendry in July and asking him to work through mid-august have anything to do with tampering? Do you think he was having Jimbo call Theo about a trade and then slipping in a 'hey, btw...if my position was ever open, do you think you'd ever be willing to work for the Cubs? No no totally just wondering" But there has to be something to it. Right? Why would it even be mentioned? Dunno a weak attempt from someone in the Boston org to scare the Cubs into giving them more...who the heck knows. Either that or he is literally just throwing that out there because it sounds good. I honestly don't understand what the motives are for a lot of what the media does. I am very jaded after the 2010 NBA FA drama.
