  1. It was the bottom of the 8th inning on May 17th by Miguel Amaya. The HR brought the Cubs to within 8 runs of the Pirates. The last non-garbage time HR hit was on May 16th by Ian Happ to cut the Pirates lead to 2-1 in a game the Cubs lost 5-4. Good times
  2. Yet again the Cubs are on no hitter alert
  3. I swear Amaya and Gomes are in a fierce competition to see who can suck more as a hitter and they keep one upping each other.
  4. Jed’s never gonna sign anyone for more than 1 year with a team option for year 2.
  5. If true they had to have an idea weather could be a factor on Sunday and made yesterday a doubleheader
  6. I hear ya. I wasn’t very optimistic last June after we finished up a 12-26 stretch. Not to say that bouncing back from 9 games under .500 is the norm, and i recognize that we ultimately failed to make the playoffs last year. Just saying it’s a long ass season and the last 11 games will be a faint memory by September. I can’t see this team just completely cratering. That said, this team is absolutely not worth our time or attention right now.
  7. Well I would assume that the offense is also going to trend back towards their career numbers. I don't know if that will end up evening out but a couple things are not right with this team: 1) The starting pitching is mostly way overperforming expectations 2) The hitting has been atrocious for the last 5-6 weeks, performing way below their abilities based on career numbers 3) The bullpen is blowing games at a historic rate. They may be a bad bullpen, but as others have pointed out statistically they are not even a bottom 5 bullpen in the league. They are probably getting quite a bit unlucky there. If we only lost 4 games while having the lead in the 8th inning or later instead of 7, this team is 30-22 and 0.5 games out of first. That's Marte's HR being hit 1 foot shorter plus the Cubs not blowing an 8-0 lead vs SD plus Amaya getting a tag down correctly tonight. That's the difference between 27-25 and 30-22 right now. While I'm extremely frustrated I still think this team is more likely than not to end up in the playoffs.
  8. The thing that really irks me about this team is still that they are playing absolutely stupid baseball much of the time. Outs on the bases, defensive gaffes, poor situational hitting. I can handle a team slumping or being deficient in a couple areas but this team just continually shoots themselves in the foot. I expected better from a Counsell managed team but I’ll stop short of actually blaming him for it because I really don’t know how much I should blame a baseball manager for.
  9. I literally completely forgot about that stat. I’m foaming at the mouth now. I just can’t remember if that’s the 7th loss when leading in the 8th inning or later or the 8th. I think it’s 7th
  10. Let’s just skip the month of May next year. 9-13 without a comeback tonight. 10-18 last May
  11. First 3 hitters got a hit, next 2 hitters started their AB with a 3-1 count, Cubs don’t score
  12. The Cubs catchers have a .498 OPS this season. Damn
  13. Speaking of Amaya....up in a huge spot with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs nursing a 1 run lead and he has a terrible AB. I'm fast losing my patience for the Cubs catching situation
  14. PWizzy! I know that Wisdom is much better in certain matchups but he's one of the few Cubs hitters that's actually hitting well in May. Perhaps need to find ways to get him in the lineup more.
  15. I didn't realize just how bad Amaya's hitting has been. I knew it was bad but didn't realize he had a .109/.180/.164/.344 batting line over the last month (6-55 with 1 XBH). And he's the better of the 2 catchers on the roster.
  16. Maybe we should have gotten more than 4 hits against one of the worst SP in baseball. I do appreciate the decent sequencing of those hits though.
  17. Can we possibly blame Seiya's injury for his poor play since returning? Those oblique injuries can be tricky and affect his swing/power even if he's healthy enough to play. .170/.231/.255/.486 with 2 XBH in 52 PA since returning. He looked so locked in before the injury, so frustrating that he can't stop injuring his oblique.
  18. Really happy Busch got it done too. The GIDP sucked but making contact twice in a row seems positive. Not completely giving up on him yet
  19. That seriously wasn’t a HR? Damn. Good work tying it though. Runs! Actual offense!
  20. They were 9 games under .500 in mid-June last year and were buyers. As frustrating as this run is right now have patience.
  21. Glad the day off really refreshed these bats
