  1. Ridiculous performance by Bumgarner tonight. When he's on, he's pretty damn good.
  2. Almost definitely at least one, and probably two, of Brewer, Watson, and Korver will be gone before the season starts. And I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. We know what those guys do in the playoffs when it really matters, and when the playoffs roll around depth means a lot less than it does in the regular season. I just renewed my season tickets as well. It's going to be tough to get rid of some of those early season games. It's been speculated that all 3 of those guys will not be retained this offseason. The Bulls seem to have decided that they want to retain Asik and keep the Bulls superior front court depth and hope that it limits the dropoff of play from the bench. The more I think about it, it might not hurt the team as much as it seems. No doubt it will hurt, but if you can sign a backup PG for 2.5 million like Hinrich or Andre Miller, it might be an upgrade over Watson. Jimmy Butler will replace Brewer and the Bulls will likely take a great shooter with their 1st round pick to try to replace some of Korver's value
  3. Wonder when WSR is going to post in this game thread. Oh wait he already did.
  4. Can't he accept the assignment and go right down? I wouldnt be surprised if he was ok with going down considering where his career is at currently.
  5. Why is Strasburg risky? Because he got Tommy John? Half the pitchers in the league have Tommy John. PS I would trade Starlin for Stanton. Dude's a legit beast, on pace for a 40 HR season with a .970 OPS and he's only 22.
  6. ESPN did their little 10 years draft, drafting a player based on how they will do over the next 10 years. They had 30 experts and 30 fans pick their top 30. Castro went 9th for the experts and didn't get picked by the fans. It was hilarious. Castro probably doesn't look sexy to the common fan. They see the 10 HR and 66 RBI mid to high .700's OPS and supposedly terrible defense and ignore his age, position and hitting ability. Not to mention to expected increase in power. Castro's currently on pace to hit .317, 13 HR, 104 RBI, 211 hits, and 49 steals. If he keeps that up, those are the type of stats that will make the non-SABRE-metrically inclined fan take notice. No doubt. Other than the major issue with his walk rate, he's having an awesome season by anyone's standards.
  7. I never understood why the Bears rebuilt Soldier Field with such a small capacity. Maybe the McCaskeys weren't exactly thinking a Super Bowl would ever be a possibility in Chicago, or even the Olympics, but at the very least, you are looking at the 2nd largest NFL market having the smallest stadium. Maybe I'm off base in my blame, was it a structural issue of being able to fit the new stadium inside the columns?
  8. Whoops, I didn't see that you said "that" blog post, I thought you were just posting that from a random blog. Carry on.
  9. What does that have to do with Andrew Cashner?
  10. Bunting with Castro that one time was horrible, but overall I don't have any major complaints. He's done ok with what he's had. The biggest thing for me at this point, the team is much more watchable for me than the last 2 years despite probably being even worse than those teams.

  12. WAR is a cumulative statistic correct? So if Castro has a 2.2 WAR in 50 games, he should be close to 7.0 WAR by the end of the year? If that's true, there were only 2 position players in the NL last year with a WAR above 7.0 (Braun and Kemp)
  13. The bottom line is that Matt Forte was a lot more valueable to us when he was our only offensive playmaker, constituting 80% of the running game and 60% of the passing game. Now that we have a really solid backup RB like Bush, and multiple dangerous receiving targets, the need for Forte has dropped a bit. That's not to say that he wouldnt make the Bears better, there's no doubt he would. But there is less of a need to spend that much money on a franchise RB when it could be allotted elsewhere. Then again, the Bears have been operating below the cap for 2 years now, so it'd be nice if they spent that money somewhere. But I tend to lean towards the side of 'don't cave into Forte's demands and trade him if he refuses to sign an extension this year'.
  14. interesting point. Trust me I would have been made fun of more for what I originally said before editing.
  15. Thought it was at least somewhat interesting but among the top 30 or so, Broxton, Colon, Capps, KRod, Wang, Chen and Millwood were all players that were signed this offseason and are now likely being shopped at the deadline for good returns. I said in the offseason it would have been nice to have signed some decent veterans who were looking 1 year deals and then trading them at the deadline for prospects. Who knows what we could get for them, but we certainly had the payroll to pay some of these guys. Broxton especially could get a pretty decent return at the deadline and only cost KC $4 million. I will say though that there are 3 players on that list that were Cubs FA signings from last winter (Maholm, DeJesus and Reed Johnson) so its not like we didnt pick up anything tradable this winter.
  16. This has to be the most obvious response you've ever made. I had typed something else, but after posting decided to take it out and was left with this nugget of wisdom :)
  17. I don't think Theo will actually trade Castro unless he gets a significant return.
  18. Watching Simmons go off on the refs on twitter like an irrational homer is hilarious
  19. Yeah, I'm not counting out the Heat because they will continue to use referees in the games.
  20. That was a nicely drawn up play. It got Dooling a lane to drive and he could have either drawn a foul and shoot FTs or if LeBron left his man to help, dish it to Allen for a wide open 3 attempt. You give up the layup there. Oh yeah it was definitely the wrong decision. I was just commenting on how it was a nicely drawn up play to put him in a position to have to choose.

  22. LeBron doing what he does best, bricking potential game winning shots. As soon as it was clear Miami was getting the last shot, I was pretty sure we were gonna get OT.
  23. That was [expletive] amazing and enjoyable. Great ending to a good game 1. Found myself watching this game more than Heat Celtics. Hockey is awesome. That was a perfect fake by Kopitar and an even sweeter backhanded pass to find the breakaway attempt.
  24. People continue to suckle on Dumpster’s teat as if it were Salma Hayek’s. He gave up 6 hits, 4 walks, and 6 ERs in under 5 innings today, but it’s not his fault. Couldn’t be. No, instead the sucklers look at his sub 3.00 ERA, his still sparkling 1.15 WHIP, his anemic run support and declare him the best EVAH. I gave up this battle long ago on message boards, but the fire still burns. Dumpster puts the over in rated. If only the Cubs could somehow maroon him on Gilligan’s Island. Or at least Des Moines. One last year and perhaps, finally, we’ll be done with him. Free at last, Free at last, thank God Almighty, they’ll be Free at last. You think he sucks, but you then admit that he has a great ERA and WHIP and has had anemic run support? Which is it?
