  1. For the record, winning any the Arizona losses would have put them in the playoffs (obviously if everything else played out as it did). Like that deflection off Keegan’s arm that Dansby inexplicably allowed to drop before throwing to first…if he decides to try to catch it in the air, the Cubs are in the playoffs.
  2. It's funny to think about the fact that in an alternate universe where like 15 inexplicable things don't happen the Cubs are right in the playoff picture right now. This team isn't great, its maybe not even good, but its good enough to make the playoffs. It just constantly shoots itself in the foot at the worst possible moment...at least considerably more than other MLB teams do. Though maybe that's part of why they're not good, they are lacking some awareness attribute that allows them to succeed in those moments.
  3. Welp, if we lose tomorrow our last 11 series against the NL Central will be 0-9-2. If we win, 1-9-1. Big game
  4. Makes me sad to see Hodge pump his fist to celebrate getting out of the jam knowing whats about to happen lol
  5. OH man its been awhile since I've tracked it, need to go back and count the number of 8th inning or later leads blown in a loss. Gotta be extending some major league record at this point.
  6. Oh wow I just saw the replay, I thought they just blew it with normal hits. I’ve never seen as many communication issues on defense as I’ve seen with the 2024 Cubs
  7. Just when things seem a little too good to be true lol
  8. You know Morel could have gone 2-17 these last couple of games 😂
  9. I knew Assad had fallen off a bit but I didn’t realize how much he had since Mid-May: (not including today) 10 starts 5.05 ERA 6.29 FIP .924 OPS against 2.1 HR/9 12.8% BB% 1.69 WHIP Averaging 4.2 IP per start (to be fair some of that time he was coming back from the injury) Not trying to rip on him, I just legitimately didn’t realize how rough of a stretch he was in (with a n injury in between). I still think he’s a very useful pitching for the Cubs moving forward. Just not sure whether that’s in the rotation, as a swingman, in the pen, etc.
  10. its not even worth discussing currently. Its Cubs discussion forum so obviously feel free to talk about it (lol) but it feels pointless to discuss in their current position.
  11. If the Cubs can win 1 of the 2 weekend games they will have broken a stretch of 0-9-1 in series against NL Central teams since early May.
  12. Beating the Cardinals is fun. I don't expect any amazing winning streaks to bring us back to contention (but who knows), but its definitely a more relaxing vibe post deadline. No one has any expectations for them anymore, just go out there and have fun and try to win some games.
  13. Well at least there is some margin for error in the 9th
  14. Is this part of Counsel's great bullpen managing to let a guy struggling with control issues to walk 4 guys in an inning, throwing 35 pitches and then bringing in another guy who has struggled with walking guys this year? Edit: yes I know TT Neris has stabilized or whatever. Maybe its my fault, Ive barely watched for weeks including most of today, turn it on with a 4 run lead, 2 outs and 1 on, and am rewarded with 3 straight walks.
  15. How about we not walk everyone to bring the Cardinals back into the game? Yeesh
  16. That seems incredibly odd that the Cubs have a 2 game series against the White Sox next Friday and Saturday and a day off on Sunday
  17. Cool look at where Seiya’s 459 ft bomb would have landed at all the other parks:
  18. We’re gonna be in great shape when teams make their cost cutting waiver moves
  19. Yeah always fun to gut punch loss the Cardinals. Good times
  20. After this series the Cubs will be done with the season series for the Brewers and Cardinals and just 3 more division series this season - 2 against Pittsburgh and 1 against the Reds.
  21. I’m guessing people haven’t watched the HOF games in previous years. There is absolutely 0 value to this game unless you really really care about long shot 53rd man prospects. It’s significantly more pointless than even the 4th preseason game (back when there was 4 preseason games).
  22. I kind of want the Bears to get blown out so I can laugh at callers on the Score freaking out tomorrow.
