  1. Lineup: Chris Coghlan(L) LF Javier Baez® SS Anthony Rizzo(L) 1B Jorge Soler® RF Luis Valbuena(L) 3B Arismendy Alcantara(S) 2B Matt Szczur® CF Rafael Lopez(L) C Eric Jokisch® P Stupid little things that don't matter but I care about: -Cubs need to go 3-0 this weekend to play .500 baseball over the final 75% of the season -Cubs need to go 2-1 to finish with under 90 losses -Rizzo is at .897 OPS, I want to see him finish over .900 -If Javier Baez and Junior Lake hit a HR this weekend, and Chris Coughlan hits 2, the Cubs will have 9 players hit double digit HRs this year (and only 1 with more than 16) Anything else?
  2. Pretty sure Biggio announced that he was retiring in like July or August of his final season
  3. I found 7. Honus Wagner played his first 3 seasons for the Louisville Colonels pre-1900, and then his team basically merged with the Pittsburgh franchise, where he played the rest of his career, but I guess you have to consider that playing for 2 teams, so he doesn't count as an 8th guy.
  4. You gonna sit him for every home game the rest of the way? Of course. Except for the Vikings game, we always beat them at Soldier Field
  5. Must have been a pretty bad concussion for Ratliff. Hope he's doing ok. I worry about Allen...sounds like he's been pretty sick and has been asked to stay away from the team so that no one else gets sick. I could see him missing the game....which might a good thing since he's never won at Soldier Field
  6. lmao, dammit
  7.
  8. The Twins asked Hughes if he wanted to pitch 1/3 of an inning over the weekend to get the incentive, and Hughes declined. The Deadspin article I read said that if he pitched and walked a batter without striking anyone out, he would lose the record for best K/BB rate ever (min 150 innings). Then again, he's only walked 16 batters all year, and K/BB isn't exactly as sexy as the HR record.
  9. I used to memorize the roster every season and I can't name one of those guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You don't remember Mike Brown?
  10. Hah. Aren't the orioles still fighting for the best record in the AL?
  11. He said this on Sept 4th....of course Javy has arguably played worse in the 3 weeks since those comments:
  12. Jesus, the latest Derek Jeter article on ESPN discusses Jeter's achievement of never being ejected from a game in his career and how this makes him a hero to children everywhere. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/11582355/derek-jeter-umps-make-call-captain-career
  13. That's kind of a weird rant. I don't remember the games that started at 5:45, 6:05 and 6:15. Were those related to doubleheaders or suspended games? Also there are a lot of instances where the Cubs don't control the times, like national TV games and day games on days where there are national games. 12:05 - Starting time for FOX Saturday games. 1:20 - Standard Weekday/Sunday day game start time, as it has been for a really long time 3:05 - Non-Fox Saturday afternoon games, I believe are required by MLB to start after 3 at the earliest due to FOX games blackout rules. 7:05 - Night game starting times So basically: -Day games any day besides Saturday: 1:20, -Night games: 7:05 -Saturday day games: 12:05 or 3:05 That covers probably 75 of the 81 games.
  14. Anyone up for these bad boys? http://www.suntimes.com/csp/cms/sites/dt.common.streams.StreamServer.cls?STREAMOID=fA$9Dryi3qvlNhlvDXdyJ8$daE2N3K4ZzOUsqbU5sYv3rBDrgPhrFvkq2c5tsNxaWCsjLu883Ygn4B49Lvm9bPe2QeMKQdVeZmXF$9l$4uCZ8QDXhaHEp3rvzXRJFdy0KqPHLoMevcTLo3h8xh70Y6N_U_CryOsw6FTOdKL_jpQ-&CONTENTTYPE=image/jpeg Didn't think so...
  15. http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2009/0913/nfl_u_cutler3_300.jpg the only time this ever happened I was at that game and it was the last time, but not the first. I love the all whites. In 2008, I believe white on white was our default road uniform
  16. Could still screw them on HFA in the Wild Card playoff game.
  17. Watching Inside the NFL for the first time with Marshall. Ed Reed is basically begging Marshall to get him signed to the Bears.
  18. So Phil Hughes had an incentive in his contract where he would get $500k for pitching 210 IP. He pitched 8 innings tonight with only 96 pitches thrown. Predictably the Twins did not have him come back out for the 9th inning, meaning he will likely finish the season with 209.2 IP Edit: ok I just read that there was an hour rain delay between the 8th and 9th innings. That changes the story from "twins screwed him" to "terrible luck"
  19. If we sweep the Brewers we finish 61-61 in our last 122 games Funny to read Gateway Redbirds reaction to losing a series against the "terrible Cubs"
  20. And Jake finishes 5.1 IP away from qualifying for the ERA title. If we didn't try to mash Jaxon back in the rotation he might have made it As it is, his 2.53 ERA would be 5th in the NL and 8th in baseball
  21. What percentage of Javys ABs aren't Ks or pop outs?
  22. Why isn't that a called strike? It was right down the middle. Just because it was called a pitchout?
  23. Baez has struck out at least once in 32 of his last 33 games
  24. Haha Bill Simmons got suspended for 3 weeks for calling Goodell a liar in his podcast. Remember this is the same network that suspended SAS 3 days for saying Janay Rice shouldn't have provoked Ray into hitting her.
  25. Not sure why we should assume health improves during the season while they are still playing. Because Marshall and Jeffery were both improved on Monday? Marshall got re-injured. Maybe the MNF injury doesn't happen if he didn't already have a bad ankle, but Jeffery went from out 2nd half week 1, to not being able to stretch it out and go deep week 2, to having no visible limitations going deep or elevating in week 3, to not on the injury report to start week 4. Marshall was better physically in SF than he was to end Week 1. He was better physically to start Week 3 than he was to start Week 2. If your argument is the risk of re-injury, it's not really going to change at any point without extended rest. Also, eventually (in 5 weeks), there is a bye week, and if they were still hobbled at that point they would have 2 weeks to rest their injuries and become healthy for the 2nd half of the season.
