  1. Cubs making it really difficult to decide whether we need help in the pen (Friday), hitting (Saturday) or a starter (today)
  2. Why does it seem like every game lately is on ABC? I thought there were only like a handful of games on the station this year or were most of them intended to be concentrated in July for some reason
  3. This is year four. And it is the only year currently being contested. We hope this is a long window of success. We have good reason to believe it has a good chance to be. But the idea that we're locked in and on cruise control is vastly overstated. People love easy-to-understand narratives like "We were bad, now we're OK and young, so tomorrow we'll be great." But it's never that easy. We could be like the Rays, where our first good team was our best. We could see the 2016 Cubs knocked off-course by a couple of poorly-timed injuries. We could see the front office's magic touch on cheap pitching evaporate. Russell could never adapt to the big leagues. Schwarber could Richie Sexson his forearm. The Cardinals and Pirates could continue their excellence for five more years and lock us out. The future looks good, but it isn't nearly enough of a guarantee to justify passing over the present entirely. Yes and if the Cubs listened to you 4 years ago we'd likely be a less than elite team full of veterans and no payroll flexibility
  4. and we see who is drinking that cool-aid from the morning.. its over this year. give up already 1-why the [expletive] did my edits turn out like that? 2-im really sorry to everyone that had to read me when I acted like this and made the board unreadable
  5. This is the second time I've read someone say we are 5 games over .500 today. Are we giving up on today's game already?
  6. Cubs are 5-5 in their last 10 and 11-10 in July and just finished a winning road trip. Not a great stretch of baseball at all but they aren't exactly in a tailspin either. Oh, and their they're 6 games over .500
  7. That doesn't make any sense? Doing what exactly? I'd take our team over the next 10 years over theirs
  8. super frustrating. i despise that attitude. I wouldn't go as far as saying who cares but I don't see the need to panic over a bad stretch of baseball. Even if we fall short this season has been awesome overall and has reawakened my love of the Cubs. Big picture it's a young core that is 100 times more likely to get better than not so the lows to me aren't nearly as bad as they were in the years we had veteran win now teams
  9. Not sure if Hamels is making a compelling case for trading for him or for scrapping the SP plan and getting a bat
  10. Don't worry we'll play some +.500 teams again soon
  11. wait, cubs people are going to be watching a game at wrigley? no way Yeah I hear high members of the front office and possibly the owner will be in attendance for his start.
  12. Can we please at least wait until the Phillies get a baserunner before we talk as if the Cubs already lost and the Giants already won? Our pitcher who is on absolute fire going against a pitcher who has been struggling and we're going to lose which will propel the Giants to automatic victory because one guy isn't in the Cubs lineup.
  13. Ross is playing. No Schwarber Schwarber has still never started a game at Wrigley Field
  14. haha I love reading these threads after losses.
  15. That team was one of the biggest flukes in sports history The 2001 Chicago Bears allowed the fewest amount of points in the NFL, and scored the 11th most. They were a pretty decent team. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/chi/2001.htm Of course they deserved to get swatted in the divisional round like they did. Well IIRC they had a bottom 3 SOS, won 2 games on pure miracles, beat a 2-14 team at home by a score of 13-10, were a game worse than their record and failed to make the playoffs (or even come close) in the 6 seasons prior and 3 seasons after, suggesting they played over their heads in 2001 IMO.
  16. Len Kasper...I mean 'Anonymous MLB Announcer" wrote a letter for Boers and Bernstein's 'Who you crappin' segment. It further confirms that Len Kasper is awesome.
  17. football especially with the small sample schedule Aside from fewer games, how do you figure? fewer games in which things like fumbles, pick 6's, and other fluke plays completely reverse outcomes which is how a [expletive] team like the 2001 bears ends up with a first round bye Yeah seriously. If anything, because baseball plays a 162 game schedule, any lucky or unlucky events are minimized over a season. There's some variance between lucky and unlucky teams but not as much as football. That is until you get into the playoffs where it becomes a complete crapshoot.
  18. Ross' pitching framing not good enough apparently
  19. Was looking over this list of top 100 NFL players...too lazy to read if its trade value or just overall whatever but every team has a player on this list except the Bears. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-nfl-100-rankings-2015-part-2/
  20. hope that says something about the market for rentals Hmm its too bad the Cubs seem to have no desire in rentals.
  21. Hey guys we are looking for big names, how about we trade for David Wright? We might get him for a discount because of his degenerative back condition. Lets give them Baez, Schwarber and Edwards and throw in some cash just to get the deal done.
