  1. We had to start Mark Clark because -Mullholland was probably pitching the best but he pitched 8 innings his last 2 starts, his last start was Sunday (game 162), and he came on in relief in game 163 -Tapani pitched on the last friday of the season and would have been good to go for game 1 on normal rest but was brought in for an inning of relief in game 163 -Trachsel would have been the next choice but he started game 163 -Wood...I am not sure why he wasn't healthy enough to start game 1 but was able to start game 3. I remember there being a lot of talk about whether he should be shut down for the year or pitch in the playoffs and I don't think it was official that he would start game 3 until the day of the game. So it was either Mark Clark or Mike [expletive] Morgan
  2. No one too reputable but there are bloggers speculating whether Kyle Hendricks could be traded....if so that would suggest we are still in it for another SP
  3. [tweet] [/tweet] Hate this [expletive] tweet
  4. Yep. Haren pitched yesterday. All the more reason to believe this isn't it. Wada should be good to go Sunday right?
  5. Haren average start 6 1/3 innings Wada average start 4 1/3 innings (last year 5 1/3 innings) The numbers are similar including FIP, Haren just eats more innings which is nice for a 5th starter. Not my ideal pickup but I do think he's better than any of the other internal options.
  6. Hope we traded something less than broken down Carlos Marmol
  7. [tweet] [/tweet] Figured its worth its own thread
  8. I think I am really going to make some popcorn and just refresh twitter for the next 2.75 hours.
  9. Padres have more pieces and more suitors. They have contenders and non-contenders alike knocking on the door. Can't blame them for taking it too the wire. If the Twins and Cubs don't do anything I'll be shocked. The White Sox are the team that should stand pat. Too close to sell, too far to buy. Didn't the White Sox make a minor move yesterday?
  10. I don't understand how this keeps being said. The Cubs are already 2/3 of the way through a race for the playoffs and very much in contention. i don't think he realizes that being "equipped for a playoff run" means having a playoff berth. No I get it. I don't think we are going to make the playoffs and even if we do, I don't feel this team would be successful in the playoffs. -Royals fan July 31, 2014
  11. If There is no way of knowing for sure based on a couple hundred AAA PA. If we bring him up again and he sucks anywhere near like last year, you will never get any substantial value for him again. I'm not at all against keeping Baez and I have high hopes for him but if we need to let him to get a valuable player that we will have for the next 2+ seasons then I'm not at all opposed.
  12. Nothing will beat the moment when I was watching Baseball Tonight's trade deadline addition when Gammons said that Nomar didn't get traded and then about 2 minutes later it was reported Nomar was traded to the Cubs. Didn't something similar happen with Maddux? Yeah I think they even had a graphic up that said that Maddux agreed to sign with the Yankees while they were discussing on Baseball Tonight. I remember all the anger here on NSBB that the stupid evil empire was interfering with our homecoming with Greg. Edit: In trying to find any online documentation of this, I discovered that Maddux turned down an offer that was $6m more from the Yankees to instead sign with the Braves in 1992. And $6m was a big difference back then (Maddux's deal with Atlanta was 5/$28m)
  13. Nothing will beat the moment when I was watching Baseball Tonight's trade deadline addition when Gammons said that Nomar didn't get traded and then about 2 minutes later it was reported Nomar was traded to the Cubs. Haha. I remember I was visiting family and obviously we didn't have smart phones or whatever to check the news, but on the way there I was listening to the Cubs postgame and they said basically that the Cubs were not going to make any moves, so I kind of came to terms with it only to find out like 45 minutes later by my Boston friends texting me about how devistated they were. In a way I will remember those pre-smart phone moments like that way more vividly than I will remember refreshing my phone constantly for 6 days in a row waiting to see if Jon Lester signed with the Cubs.
  14. The thing that would annoy me is standing pat and Theo going on the radio and preaching patience and how he doesn't want to mortgage the long term prospects and how there has to be a balance between short term and long term etc. for the millionth time
  15. Also he's pitched much better on the road this year than at Petco
  16. He's no Matt Kemp, that's for sure
  17. Damn you Starlin, why can't you just hit like a little bit so I can love you wholeheartedly?
  18. I feel like all the Cubs that come up start off red hot and then go through a slump because it takes like 2 months for our coaches to figure out adjustments
  19. Time to get jiggy wit it #1000thtimethatjokeismade
  20. dammit...just cant get that big hit today
