  1. Oh well on Soler. If he doesn't come back this sesason he will be the starting RF next year almost certainly. Still hold out pretty good hope for him mostly because he still doesn't have a ton of minor/major league ABs so there is still development there, and the best attibute he was supposed to have, power, was non existent. Is it possible the oblique has been bothering him for awhile, zapping him of power? Either way its likely an adjustment and better luck that will give him more power. If he was just a bust and a bad hitter, he would at least be destroying mistake pitches every so often and his BA would likely be lower. Instead hes hitting around .260 with minimal power.
  2. i think ive been reading too many game threads lately
  3. True, but we would still have to face either the 2nd best or 3rd best team in the NL in the NLDS as a reward for having the best record in baseball (or at least best in NL)
  4. In an almost identical amount of PAs as Kyle Schwarber, former Cub all glove/no hit IF Andres Blanco has a .929 OPS vs. .957 for Schwarbs. What the heck?
  5. Well thats basically what I'm saying. The 3 best teams in the NL are in the same division and will play anywhere from 4-6 games against each other to canabalize themselves into 1 team to play one of the lesser two teams for the right to go into the WS. Like I said, I'm not saying the system is unfair its just really unfortunate that it's playing out this way, but I guess this will happen on occasion. As for the seeding based on record, guaranteeing a divison winner a playoff spot would lessen but not eliminate the point of divisions. It's the same argument thats going on in the NBA right now, the major difference being that a team plays the teams in its division 3x as much as they play teams outside of their division (in the same league). That heavily unbalanced scheduling, to me, means that you have to give a heavy weight to division winners. But I'm not really a fan of unbalanced scheduling anyways (at least not to the degree its at now)
  6. Funny that the Cardinals-Pirates-Cubs are the 3 best teams in the NL and its almost completely certain that only one of them will be able to play in the NLCS. I mean look at the Giants just stumbling along. 7-10 on their impossibly tough run of games and they've actually gotten a game closer to the Dodgers in that stretch. Then there's the Mets that basically win the NL East by default, despite being unable to beat a winning team. And the Dodgers keep adding payroll and it brings them no change out on the field. One of those 3 teams is going to be in the NLCS, while 2 of the Cubs Pirates and Cardinals will be at home watching. I'm not saying its unfair, or the MLB is doing something wrong that needs to be fixed (although there could be some tweaks to the system I guess, like guaranteeing division winners a playoff spot but seeding them and the WCs 1-5 based on record and having the 4th and 5th seeds play in the "WC Game"), it's just an insanely unfortunate circumstance that 2 teams will have to live with.
  7. The tiebreaker is a tiebreaking game to advance to the WC game like the Rangers/Rays a few years ago. Unless you are referring to HFA in that game, which I believe is still coinflip or some stupid [expletive]
  8. Joc Peterson is getting benched. Guess that kills whatever chances he had left at ROY
  9. Come on Hammel, one more out and you can actually qualify for a win.
  10. I think Kluber is trying think of some arm fatigue related excuse to miss tomorrow's start
  11. Before that Montero HR the Cubs last HRs were hit by 8 different Cubs. Awesome
  12. Soler seems like the kind of guy where he makes one small adjustment and then all the sudden he's destroying baseballs on the regular. Hope I'm right
  13. Lol Fowler leads off the game with a hit every game it seems like. Occasionally it goes out of the park.
  14. Come on Hammel get out of this and settle in
  15. Games that matter: 1:10 CT Dodgers (Kershaw) @ Astros (McCullers) TBS 3:10 CT Cardinals (Wacha) @ Padres (Rea) 7:08 CT Giants (Vogelsong) @ Pirates (Liriano) ESPN
  16. This sucks. Because the Cardinals are more focused on the Pirates and vice versa and the Giants more focused on the Dodgers, there are no salty reactions about the Cubs winning on any of their forums.
  17. If Fowler keeps hitting like this he's gonna price himself out of the Cubs plans
  18. Am I missing something with this 77 to go thing? 41 games left in the season, Max playoff games is 20
  19. I know it's stupid to lament on losses but if the Cubs had not blown that game to the Cardinals at Wrigley, they would be 5 games out currently. (Cue replies about games we improbably won evening it out)
  20. I love when they show this commercial with the Bryant HR because that was literally the moment the season turned for us
  21. Everyone in the starting lineup but Schwarber and Coughlan made huge contributions today. Fowler 3-5, Rizzo HR, Bryant 2 RBI double, Montero 2B and HR, Soler HR, Russell HR and RBI single. So awesome
  22. With some luck we could be 6.5 behind STL tonight
  23. Damn just saw Pirates won. 1 out from 5 games up!
  24. 1. Release Jaxon 2. Because he's such a nice guy remind him on the way out how much you are paying him still. Hope he feels guilt 3. Hope he goes to an NL team you play a lot in the 2nd half 4. Profit
