  1. Angels finished this off, now things get super interesting as both division and WC tiebreakers become very realistic. Astros win tonight: -Astros and Angels win = divison tiebreaker -Astros and Rangers win = Rangers win div, Astros WC -Astros lose and Angels win = WC tiebreaker -Astros lose and Rangers win = Rangers division, Astros WC Astros lose tonight: -Astros and Angels win = WC tiebreaker -Astros and Rangers win = Rangers division, Astros WC -Astros lose and Angels win = Rangers division, Angels WC -Astros lose and Rangers win = WC tiebreaker
  2. Why would they be pissed? They can still catch the Rangers for the AL West. Yeah I just corrected myself. Considering the Astros woeful road record, I wouldn't be super confident of winning the last 2 games. And the Angels take the lead. Glad I turned this one on. Baseball is awesome
  3. Wow Angels score 4 in the 9th to tie it. Astros fans have to be pissed Edit: I guess some confident Astros fans are happy as it keeps their division hopes alive
  4. All that's left is a 2 way tie, Minnesota just got eliminated with their loss a few minutes ago. The Rangers and Astros can tie for the division and second wild card, or the Astros and Angels can tie for the 2nd wild card. Actually, I guess the Yankees could technically lose out and make a 3 way tie with the Rangers and Astros, so there's something for anyone wanting mayhem. That requires Texas blowing this lead in the remaining 2 outs and losing tomorrow, the Yankees losing out, and the Astros winning out. so how would that work out? I know the Yankees wouldn't play any tiebreaking games. Do the one game playoffs still count as regular season games? If so then the Yankees would already clinch home field because the Astros Rangers loser would be 0.5 behind
  5. Nope. Only tie breaking scenario left is Astros and Angels tie (assuming Texas finishes this one off but it's looking shaky) The only way that happens is if the Astros lose their last 2 and Angels beat the Rangers tomorrow
  6. Sucks, that will put the Astros magic number at 1. Not even a good chance for a 2 team tiebreaker at this point
  7. Michigan has now allowed 1 score in their last 13 quarters, a garbage time TD allowed by Michigan backups against UNLV.
  8. Cool article in The New Yorker from former Cub teammate Adrian Cardenas. Gives you a glimpse into Rizzo's personality http://www.newyorker.com/news/sporting-scene/watching-a-friend-lead-the-cubs-to-the-playoffs
  9. It's one of those things where you dream for the better part of a decade for a game like this, and then when the game is going on and your stomach is in knots you wish it was some boring game in July. But you really don't believe that, it just feels like it at the time.
  10. Hence, why I was playing the "2 NLDS, including game 5 starts" angle. Right and people have brought that up here. I just don't think you mess around with a 1 game playoff. You start your best pitcher and figure out the rest when you win. Even if Liriano has the Cubs number much of the time, it's just not worth the risk to start an inferior pitcher, especially because you burned the better pitcher to ensure home field for a 1 game playoff. I also said that. They should have negative hearts for people that have 2 chances to read an entire post and still don't. Sorry I skim things too often :)
  11. Can we get the 08 Cubs and whoever the rainout was against back together to play that makeup game so we don't have a half game separating us. If they win I can live with it.
  12. If Greinke somehow gives up 4 runs in 7 innings tonight, Jake will finish with a lower ERA

  14. I don't think home field is worth burning your best pitcher for.
  15. Who would have thought that with 2 days left in the season the Cubs would be 30 games over .500 and 12 games up on a playoff spot?
  16. Breaking news: baseball player wants to play baseball
  17. Oh well. Pirates walk off Ballister should consider a new profession
  18. The guy the Reds have in has allowed 11 ER in 14.1 IP. He walked his first batter on 4 pitches
  19. Damn so it looks like my dream of a 3 way tie in the AL WC race will be on life support unless the Twins can pick up at least 2 runs in the 9th
  20. He did have a ND in Pittsburgh that the Cubs won in 13 innings
  21. Come on IMB let the Cubs break this open
  22. Cigriani comes in and promptly walks in a run. Now 4-2, still bases loaded and 0 outs
