  1. Good, I'd much rather cocaine be in the NHL than Torres
  2. Fly United First Class, DirecTV is free. Otherwise as was said before its like $8 depends on which plane you're on, some have directv, some do not. pretty sure he'd be good to go on southwest, though. My experience with United is about 85% of the flights I've been on domestically have DirectTV installed. Also Southwest has free TV for selected channels, but I do not believe TBS is one of them. They do have a channel called "MLB.tv" but I think it only shows the MLB.tv free game of the day on it.
  3. Being emotional is fine, but making irrationally negative posts is not fine imo. You do not better the board or discussing by declaring game over in the third inning or other even more irrational thoughts.
  4. Yeah. You're screwed. There's not enough bandwidth to support streaming. Netflix, etc... never works unless it's content already downloaded to your machine. Unless it's a plane that has DirecTV, in which case that will be the best $8 you'll ever spend. I don't know, if I was in that situation and the game was any bit as tense as it should be, I could see myself getting escorted off the plane by air marshalls upon landing.
  5. The only game that really kinda intrigues me is Cal @ Utah. You aren't excited for M 0 0 N part 2? (That's Michigan/Northwestern referring to their notorious 10-9 game last year where no points were scored until more than midway through the 3rd)
  6. Sure if you click on it 60 times within the next 60 seconds, you will move 1 minute closer to game time.
  7. My biggest takeaway from that was that Jake was noticeably bigger than he is now. Oh and that Pirates announcers get over the top excited about beating the crappy version of the Cubs. Was that in 2013 or last year?
  8. I would consider it, but Coghlan picked it up over the weekend with his bat making the decision tougher. It's a tough choice. Coghlan is better against righties..you could start Jackson and bring Coghlan in if we need a bat later or start Coghlan and bring in Jackson if we have a small lead for defense. The difference is if we started Jackson and PH Coghlan later, the Pirates would probably bring in a lefty, nullifying him and getting Jacksons D out of the game.
  9. had his best FIP and second best xFIP of any month this season and joe wouldn't do that. My thought process is that I think he really doesn't trust Hammel at all and the Cubs might need a 4th starter for game 4 of the NLDS. But Joe seems to be married to the bullpen day idea either in game 2 or 4. Obviously it's all a moot point if the Cubs are down 2-1 going into game 4 because Lester would start on 3 days rest. What'd I miss? Only reference I've seen was several days ago when he said he wouldn't rule it out. Nothing I guess. Married is probably the wrong word. I just get the impression that he doesn't trust Hammel at all and even if he did start him he'd be on a really short leash making it essentially a pen game
  10. Because of his home run rate and the fact that he's a junk baller I don't think I'd want to see him come out of the pen.

  12. I don't mind that, I would prefer just giving it to whichever team has the best overall record. What's the reasoning again? Something about hotel rooms? I don't understand why its a challenge for the MLB but not for the NBA
  13. Call your boss and tell them a dingo ate your baby
  14. I love it because it shows how loose he is. He's not stressing at all imo
  15. the way it was determined for years before that lasted even longer and was arguably dumber. just as bad at best. It's hard to top "winner of July exhibition game where 90% of participants will not actually play in the World Series"
  16. This will get lost in the playoff talk but for a guy we vilified, Dan Haren had a really nice final month and change of his career. After September 1st: 6 starts, 32.2 IP, 8 ER, 2 HR allowed, 2.20 ERA, 3-0 record, Cubs were 5-1 in his starts. I'm sure his FIP was atrocious and he was very lucky or something but nice work. Now hopefully Joe doesnt see his last 2 starts against STL (11.1 IP, 1 ER) and slot him into a potential NLDS rotation
  17. [tweet]https://twitter.com/adamjahns/status/650847206287769600[/tweet]
  18. One more thing: on this schedule http://m.mlb.com/postseason-schedule they do not list game times but they way the schedule is ordered does seem kind of random, it has WC/Royals listed at the top then WC/STL, NYM/LAD and then TOR/TEX last. But that doesn't make any sense to have the latest game by the only game played in the Eastern Time Zone. Ok I'm thinking about this way too much
  19. The chances of it being in prime time, especially if we're in it, are probably somewhere between 99.5 and 100 percent. But nothing is official. Again, my only hesitation is that Dodgers/Mets in LA is almost certainly the late game. So if MLB wants Fox to get an AL game in the later 2 games then it might have no choice but to put Cubs/Cards around 4pm
  20. Nope but all 4 series have games on that day. I'm guessing Blue Jays/Rangers will be in the afternoon, and Dodgers/Mets will be the last game (only game played west of the Central time zone). So that would leave Royals/WC and Cubs/Cardinals to fill the late afternoon and Primetime slots. If the Astros win the WC game you can bet the Cubs will be the prime time game. If the Yankees win, I still think it would be Cubs/Cards but there's a chance the draw of NYC market pushes that to primetime. Another consideration, since AL and NL are on different networks, does that mean at least 1 AL game has to be in the later 2 games? That would change everything
  21. Wow only $64 to get in the door? Shows you how spoiled the Cardinals are. I bet you don't get in the door at Wrigley for under $200
  22. I keep seeing NL wild Card vs Cardinals and it hits me that we are one freaking win from playing our most hated rivals in a playoff series for the first time ever. But I cannot get excited about it until we get through the WC.
  23. So between 1996 (first full season of Wild Card) and 2014, the most wins a non-playoff team had in a season was 96 by the 1999 Reds, but they got to play a 1 game playoff and lost, so it was almost the same thing as the current format. Other than that, 3 teams won 93 games and didn't make it, and the average number of wins for the best non playoff team each year is 89
  24. This is a good point. The NFL multiple times has had 10-6 teams miss the playoffs while an 8-8 team gets to host a playoff game. Heck even two 11-5 teams have missed the playoffs before, which boggles my mind. The NBA and NHL are a lot better but they let over half the league in the playoffs and they still get complaints about who is seeded where.
  25. Seriously. This is my favorite playoff format of any sport. It's darn near perfect. My only real disagreement with the current structure is the LDS being 5 games. The only reason we hate the wild card as much as we do right now is because we won 97 games while there are an 88 and 90 win teams advancing to the LDS. If we won 85 games and snuck in we'd be so thankful for such a wonderful opportunity for a young improving team. (Yes I know the Cubs wouldn't even be in the previous playoff format, my point is just as a 97 win team I feel like we are a good bit better than teams like the Rangers and Mets who get to go straight to the LDS)
