  1. Here is the article in full: https://archive.ph/xbZWJ Very long and detailed report on whats going on at Halas Hall. Definitely pretty negative in tone but Dan Wiederer does try to balance it out a little by pointing out the positives that are out there. The anonymous quotes throughout the article make it seem like other teams view the Bears and their FO/ownership as a complete joke though, which I totally get. The other interesting thing was the evaluation and hiring of Eberflus. Sounds like people were really perplexed at why Poles hired Eberflus, and the article even states that the Colts were looking to fire Eberflus as DC if he wasn't hired by the Bears and likely would have had to have taken a positional coach role somewhere. Eberflus was just a really bad hire and it was clear he was a bad hire last year. But Poles kept him around and that ultimately might be the decision that seals his fate in Chicago as it really illuminated many of the other mistakes that Poles has made. A coaching change may have bought him some time and ultimately allowed the Bears to overcome some of the shortcomings of Poles' roster.
  2. This is somewhat similar to squally's wRC+ stat, but dumbing it down to pure SLG%, Tucker had a .585 SLG% last year. Since 2006, there have been a grand total of 2 Cubs that have had 100+ PA and a SLG% that high: 1. 2019 Castellanos had a .646 SLG% in 225 PA for the Cubs 2. 2021 Schwindel had a .613 SLG% in 239 PA for the Cubs That's it...no other hitter had a SLG% of .585 or better. Derrick Lee (post-2005), ARam, Soriano, Edmonds, KB, Rizzo, Schwarber, Javy, Willson, Bellinger, none of them had a season where they slugged as much as Tucker did last season.
  3. Not a lot of scenarios where I say "jaw dropping" and my jaw actually drops. That's incredible.
  4. I'd like a solid bat that can play 3B, 1B and DH or something like that. One that doesn't have to have a permanent position but is good enough to get regular ABs. Not sure who would fit that profile though.
  5. Reading a lot of Astros takes that are ok with this because Tucker's postseason numbers are poor lol. Sure send him out of town because of a few small sample size performances
  6. Who starts for the Cubs at 3B on opening day?
  7. I cant believe I'm actually excited about the Cubs. Now I'm interested to see how Jed handles the rest of the offseason. Before I didn't care because I didn't think the Cubs would actually get the elite bat they needed. But now that we've accomplished that I am very interested to see what we can do.
  8. Figured it was worth its own thread rather than discussing in the already over Winter Meetings thread. If mods don't want it feel free to ignore and delete.
  9. Seems decently fair. I like Paredes but he always seemed like an odd fit in Chicago given his profile. I don't feel like we're losing a ton getting rid of him. Much rather give up Cam Smith instead of Shaw given that he's much farther away. Wesneski is useful to the Cubs and still has upside but we have several arms at a similar stage that the Cubs can use the next 2-3 years so I'm not too upset about that. Cam Smith is the only one that hurts and I guess you have to pay to play
  10. Yeah thats insane...only a half a season but he was on pace for 40+ HR and 9+ fWAR over 150 games. I think he played 77 games last year.
  11. Kyle Tucker's ranks among position players since 2021: fWAR: 13th - 19.1 wOBA: 11th - .375 wRC+ - 9th - 145 He really only looks up to guys like Judge, Yordan, Ohtani, Soto, Trout, Harper, Freeman, Betts and Acuna.
  12. That would tie the random reports of the Phillies suddenly being involved with the same names mentioned (Bohm and Castellanos). Would make sense if they were actually part of a 3 team trade.
  13. There seems to be a perception amongst non-Cubs fans that the Cubs aren't trying to win right now. I posted something on the Yankees sub the other day just giving my thoughts, while not revealing I'm a Cubs fan, and got hammered about why the Cubs would even be trying for Tucker since they're not trying to win right now, and pointed out trying to trade Bellinger, Nico and Seiya as evidence. And I guess on the surface that makes sense if that is all you've seen from the Cubs this offseason. And also, Jed is clearly not trying to build a 95 win team, he wants to build a stupid 88 win team that sneaks into the playoffs so it can appear that the Cubs are miles away from contending. I just thought it was interesting that this is the perception other fanbases have of the Cubs.
  14. 49ers last 5 games: -17 points scored in loss to Seattle -10 points scored in loss to Green Bay -10 points scored in loss to Buffalo -38 points scored in win over Chicago -6 points scored in loss to Los Angeles Rams One of these things is not like the other. Did the Bears defense just completely give up last week or is Eberflus a defensive mastermind keeping everything together?
  15. I thought Kyle would like this infographic since he's been tracking this
  16. You're forgetting our playoff appearance in 2020. I get why though, it really doesn't feel like we made the playoffs that year and might be one of the worst playoff teams ever.
  17. And just 1 winning season in the 12 years since we fired Lovie after a 10-6 season. I'd say the curse of Lovie but he ended up paying us back 10 fold with the Texans win in 2022.
  18. Jed wanted to get a deal done during winter meetings. Will be interesting to see if this now cools down for a bit
  19. y...you think 2 full days of being consumed by a trade rumor is bad? May I submit for your viewing pleasure:
  20. I'm almost certain he broke something last offseason but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. He was getting heat at the time but was proven correct.
  21. I can live with that
  22. I agree but if you’re Tucker and you just saw Soto wait out his contact and get the largest deal in baseball history how eager are you to sign an extension early rather than test the open market? Maybe having security is something enticing to him but if it’s not it makes much more sense to wait it out. If that prevents him from getting traded then he gets to stay somewhere he’s comfortable and makes the playoffs every year. I highly doubt Jed makes a Tucker trade hoping to get an extension done this offseason and is willing to take the risk of him playing 1 season in Chicago and bolting. I certainly don’t see Jed offering a contract that blows Tucker away enough to sign early. That’s just not Jed Hoyer.
