  1. Oh man. Was really hoping he would have been sent. Probably a 20% chance of scoring but that's about monteros odds of getting on base
  2. I mean, his hot streak lasted like a full *month* so I mean...what? If anyones been streaky its really been Rizzo Yeah I was just thinking about how he had a similar 0-17ish streak in April. Feels like either he's hitting everything or nothing.
  3. Not even sure I want LaStella to walk Zobrist into scoring position because that means Montero has to bat
  4. Has Zobrist always been this insanely streaky?
  5. Man if that pitch could have just hit Fowler...
  6. This is just one of those games where everyone plays poorly in just about every phase of the game.
  7. WOW Richard didn't get the job done? YOU DONT SAY
  8. 0-16 for Zobrist. At least he's still walking
  9. Man if we didn't sign Fowler we'd be looking at an OF of Bryant - Heyward - Szczur for as long as Soler's out. Which actually doesn't sound too bad, but Baez/LaStella would be Soler's real replacement.
  10. [tweet] [/tweet] My guess is they take things very very slow with Soler based on the Cubs lead in the standings and Soler's history of leg injuries.
  11. Throwback to when Rany totally called this http://grantland.com/the-triangle/chicago-cubs-rebuilding-theo-epstein-javier-baez-kris-bryant-jake-arrieta/ This article sustained me for an entire winter
  12. On a Cubs article reading binge today. This is a good one analyzing Jake's last 9 starts vs. his starts in 2014-2015, even if you don't necessarily agree that 'something is wrong' with Jake Arrieta. Biggest conclusions are: 1) He's attacking lower in the zone more often, 2) He's using his fastball more and his slider less, 3) his release point on all of his pitches has been noticeably higher than 2014 and 2015. http://www.cubsinsider.com/something-wrong-jake-arrieta/
  13. The Ringer, Bill Simmons site, finally posts an interesting article https://theringer.com/chicago-cubs-2016-world-series-quest-jake-arrieta-kris-bryant-e68b07657df2#.t89562k7m
  14. Given his past leg issues, there has to be like a 95% chance Soler goes on the DL regardless of what the MRI shows.
  15. How do we do a better job of promoting these articles? I would be happy to post to twitter for visibility but it might be nice to use our "official" NSBB twitter to promote the article with 3-4 tweets over a 2 day period, and have NSBB'ers on twitter retweet. It seems like we've done articles in the past for a few weeks then everyone loses interest and stops writing, I think partially because of little to no feedback as well as only writing for a small group of individuals that already read posts. The recent posts by Duke have been really good, and I'd like them to keep going and for more people to see them.
  16. Just looking at the upcoming schedule, looks like its about to get a little tougher. Obviously the Cubs are the best team in baseball and have played good teams really well but it should be a good test regardless. Mentioned this the other day but yesterday kicked off stretch where 20 of 26 games are on the road. But also, after the weekend series against the Braves, the schedule looks like this: 3 - @ WAS 3 - vs PIT 3 - vs STL 4 - @ MIA 3 - @ CIN 4 - @ NYM 3 - vs CIN 1 - vs ATL 3 - @ PIT ---------ASB-------- 3 - vs TEX 3 - vs NYM 3 - @ MIL 2 - @ CWS 2 - vs CWS 3 - vs SEA 3 - vs MIA That's 36 of 46 games against teams currently over .500, although roughly half of those teams are treading water right now. Anyways, bring it on!
  17. Yeah Almora is keeping that BA high which is nice, but 5 XBH (all doubles) and 1 BB in his last 21 games doesn't scream "call me up". That said, obviously his defense is the main draw. A cup of coffee to give him a taste of the big leagues isn't the worst thing. Murton has been on a tear since coming off the DL but its Murton. I was more excited for him as a nostalgic 5th OF, not as a replacement after Schwarber and Soler go down with injuries.
  18. Don't have the stats to back me up but it seems like he always hurts us until this year. Last year is no exception.
  19. If Hector came out because of injury, Strop would get as long as he needed to warm up. Valid point. Don't know why Strop got up so fast then because Rondon has been almost unhittable this year and is the closer. You usually don't warm someone up when the closer is in unless things get really dicy
  20. Phillies runs in the 9th: 4 Phillies runs in the first 35 innings against the Cubs this year: 5
  21. The fact that strop warmed up so quickly concerns me. Like his back isn't right
