  1. Again, other than saving money Rose had nothing to gain by taking this to trial. Even if he's completely innocent, this is getting really ugly and damaging to his reputation, at least within circles that care about the trial like a lot of people in the cities of New York and Chicago. If they would have quietly settled a year ago before the court depos and public back and forth, the only thing Rose would have lost is money. Which is important but for a guy that has generational wealth, you'd think he'd value his reputation more.
  2. Brett from BN said on twitter he through at 10am sharp and wasn't able to get a ticket. Strange...
  3. Scherzer is right behind him, but he has pitched 40+ innings more than Fernandez, which is both a detriment to Scherzer (with regards to WAR) and a point in his favor. Taking a look at the numbers Fernandez does compare favorably in many categories so maybe I am changing my opinion. That said the way the OP was framed ("Been hearing that this is a legit possibility now, if not likelihood.") made it seem like CubsBearsMagic was asking if he now should win the Cy Young because of his tragic passing. If he wins, it will be on merit, or at least it should.
  4. Why not? With no clear cut favorite, and a perfectly respectable resume on his own, what harm is there if a few votes that were considering going another way swing into his favor? especially if they were going to go against him for something stupid like where his team is in the standings Well yeah I would agree with that if they were otherwise going to use bad logic to vote, but the Cy Young is awarded to best pitcher. If he wasn't your best pitcher last week then he's not your best pitcher now because he died tragically. If you want to use it as a tiebreaker then fine.
  5. If it's a legit possibility now, it should have been equally as legit of a possibility on Saturday night. His numbers are certainly Cy Young worthy, but I don't think he's the runaway favorite. He might end up getting votes because of the tragedy but he shouldn't. My ballot right now is something like 1. Scherzer 2. Hendricks 3. Fernandez 4. Kershaw 5. Lester
  6. Love putting the Cubs in a positive light but the RD stat is slightly misleading because something like 15 other teams had a better run differential before 162 game seasons like the 27 Yankees were over 400. That said you might just being using that benchmark to imply 3rd best RD in modern era (post 1960)
  7. A sampling of the garbage Jesse Rogers is retweeting [tweet]https://twitter.com/prophetofragret/status/780962932255518720[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] Wtf is wrong with people
  8. Yeah I should say that I think what Tavarez did was more reckless, not to mention illegal.
  9. Haha sit the horsefeathers down Rodriguez
  10. I think Joe Smith is higher in Maddon's pecking order (I know even better right)
  11. Grimm last 3 appearances: 2IP, 7 H, 3 BB, 5 ER (with 2 runners still on), 5.00 WHIP, 22.50 ERA (so far)
  12. Ok he's at 30 pitches. Even if you aren't trying to manage to the situation you can't let him pitch 35+ pitches
  13. Not impressed with how Grimm has pitched over the last 2 weeks
  14. Didnt it come out that there was no alcohol in his system? Or am I misremembering? I think they've only said no drugs or alcohol was found on the boat. Don't think they've announced the autopsy results yet. They did say Jose was not driving tho. However that is determined. Yes it's pretty dumb and reckless to be boating at night but if no drugs or alcohol were involved idk how you even think this is close to OT. This is all true but from the sounds of the Passan article Fernandez was begging teammates and friends to go out with him, and going out at that time of night was said to be quite dangerous due to lack of lighting and lack of other people out on the water to save them in the event of an accident. The driving part doesn't matter at all assuming whoever drove was sober. From the sounds of it he encouraged others to do something fairly reckless and they paid for it with their lives. I don't know where that puts Fernandez in terms of his judgement tbh
  15. Lmao Polanco thanks for more run differential
  16. Almora might actually be a good hitter? now?
  17. Stayed in the game so I think he's fine. Anytime one of your starters hobbles over in pain when you are a week away from the playoffs and playing meaningless baseball it causes minor panic
  18. Seriously get Javy out of the game. He's too important to be Kang revenge from last year
  19. Holy horsefeathers I completely forgot we had a Jake Buchanan
  20. [tweet] [/tweet] Geez. He hasn't even been laid to rest yet and Gordo is writing about how his death affects baseball awards. Sickening
  21. Man Coghlan even hitting lefties well
