  1. Have the Dodgers even done that much to correct their fatal flaw of hitting against LHP? I see basically the same roster except switch Utley with Forsythe
  2. Their leading scorer was out last night and they still almost beat Illinois. I understand that but beating illinois at home shouldn't be a tremendous accomplishment even without the top scorer I'm just saying im hoping this isn't the start of a trend. Would really like to see NU make it and I think they will.
  3. Starting to get concerned for Northwestern. Wasn't expecting them to win in East Lafayette but they were not competitive at all in the game. OK fine it happens, but then they lose at home to Illinois which is not good at all (sorry Illini fans). Obviously they are still very safe and on track to make their first tourney, but its a concerning trend that is starting to develop and they aren't locks just yet.
  4. You are giving too much credit to your former STL brethren
  5. Houston seems like a perfect landing spot for either Jay or Romo.
  6. I always loved Harold Baines. Mostly because he agreed to sign a Cubs hat for me at a suburban Jewel sometime around 1995. Not sure why I thought it was cool to make him sign a Cubs hat but whatever. I guess he was also a pretty good player too. Definitely more of a Hall of Very Good player though.
  7. I don't know if we have a projection thread for 2017, so I'm putting this here: PECOTA projects the Cubs to win 90 games in 2017, winning the Central by (i think) 8 games over the Pirates. The Dodgers are projected to have 98 wins, which seems like a ton for a projection system that typically seems to have a small standard deviation between the best and worst teams.
  8. Missing Goldman and McPhee, with Freeman being gone for 4 games, Floyd, Kwiatkowski, and Bullard being rookies. Basically, looking at it, Hicks and Freeman are elite players. Goldman and Floyd are potential elite. McPhee and Young are solid. The front seven is fine. If they suffer a rash of injuries, it won't look great. Injuries are gonna happen, and they arent that deep. Also not sure Id call Hicks elite. At times he plays at an elite level, but he hasnt been consistent throughout his career. And then Freeman, who is elite, is over 30. So is our front seven the biggest need? No, but they should look to add some pieces. Not exactly a bold statement to suggest we should add to a group that makes up nearly a third of the starting positions on a football team. Of course we should add depth but by far this is the group that least needs dramatic change
  9. Actually yeah thats a great idea for the playoffs. I can understand why they couldn't want to play a full OT in the regular season but it shouldn't be an issue to play 10-15 mins in a playoff OT game.
  10. Was thinking about OT and how they can reform it to even up the odds even more. I think guaranteeing each team a possession would lead to more ties and I'd like to avoid that. Here are 2 different suggestions I had, feel free to tear them apart. First suggestion: Each team is guaranteed 1 possession unless the first team to have possession scores a TD and a 2 point conversion. It would make for interesting strategy....you can either kick the XP and trust your defense will stop them or you go for the win. If you make it you win, if you don't make it, you risk the other team winning with a TD and XP Second suggestion: Rules are the same as now except in the scenario where the first team to possess the ball kicks a FG, then the second team to possess the ball also kicks a FG, the second team gets a second consecutive possession and sudden death starts. This probably won't change the strategy of whether to have the ball first, but it could definitely change how the first team plays that opening possession, aiming to go for the TD more frequently. If they kick a FG, then the second team has 2 shots to win it, first with a TD, second with a FG and then a FG or TD.
  11. In our division I think of the Cardinals as our mortal enemy, Brewers as a small rivalry that is made bigger because of geographic distance and their fans forcing us to occasionally pay attention to them, the Pirates are just a team we momentarily dislike because they are moderately good and have some annoying players but I know that once they slink into obscurity again I'll not think twice about them. And the Reds....well their only good run in the last 20+ years coincided with our gut rebuild where I didn't really care enough to form any sort of dislike. Prior to that, there has never been a season that both the Cubs and Reds were relevant in the same year since the Reds were in the NL West. The only thing I hate about the Reds is Marty Brennaman. Conversely, I would guess that every other team in the division would place the Cubs as their most hated team, except maybe the Reds (which might be the Cardinals because of recent history), but from spending plenty of time down there, if we aren't enemy #1 in Cincinnati, we're 1a
  12. The Bears signing Romo would go about as well as the Bulls signing Wade.
  13. You can make an argument that in one calendar year we've seen the best college basketball, college football, NBA, MLB and NFL titles in history
  14. Meh Glennon is low ceiling QB. Not saying he's bad but if you're signing him you are still looking for your QB of the future.
  15. I love the ones that are like "Every Kris Bryant Home Run 2016". Fun to watch dong after dong after dong. There is even one that has every single Cubs HR last year in order.
  16. Probably not helpful but there is basically every relevant minute of the season available on YouTube in some really well produced highlight videos. I can't recall anyone ever producing a licensed full season highlight DVD for a championship team, but if you have a chromecast or something you can fireup videos for hours on YouTube.
  17. Yeah maybe a stretch. Just looking at what the Titans and Browns got for 1 and 2 next year. I think the Rams gave up 15th pick, two 2nds and a 3rd. But I'm guessing on second thought that you can't get an overpay like that unless It's a team targeting a QB and none of the QBs in this draft are worth overpaying for especially with trading for Garoppolo an option
  18. I'm not sure the accounting adds up on this one. What do you mean? I combined 2 trades into 1. The first is acquiring pick 20(estimate) then shipping it to NE for Garoppolo. Or are you saying I'm over/undervaluing that pick? Edit: or are you saying I should just leave out the 20 pick from the ledger?
  19. Maybe trade down from #3 into the 18-24 range and gain a 2nd and 3rd round pick (or 2nd this year and 2nd next year). Then trade that 1st rounder for Garoppolo and a 4th or something. Trade #3 pick and #20 pick Receive Garoppolo, 2nd rounder (2017), 2nd rounder (2018), 4th rounder (2017) I have no feel for proposing NFL trades so that might sound stupid. Either way, huge red flags when a team with a 40 year old QB wants to trade a highly regarded heir apparent, especially a team that's been known to fleece others in the past
  20. Terrible idea
  21. That was a fun game. Gave up a HR to the leadoff hitter and then buckled down and just dominated for the next 27 outs.
  22. [tweet] [/tweet] Umm what year is it?
  23. Damn, I kind of wish they hacked us now.
  24. Interpret however you want, most dangerous, the person with the worst intentions, most dangerous relative to the amount of power they have etc. I cannot wrap my head around who we should be scared most about, sometimes its the man himself, sometimes its Bannon, previously Pence would worry me more, etc. Edit: I probably should have included Putin in there
  25. Yessss this is why this series is great. I completely forgot about this awesome moment.
