  1. Wait. I haven't actually watched a Marquee broadcast this year. Grace doing something with someone and being horrible is one thing...but he's ruining Len and JD?! This cannot be true.
  2. I was sitting here for a few moments wondering what I could post that would be at all entertaining. I feel like my gif game is tired and largely contrived when it isn't connected to something I care about, and some random gif theme tied to current events/Cub happenings would be forced. I was going to type out a diatribe about how NSBB has been losing its steam, in reaction to the dying thread, but what unique insight could I provide for that? Answer: not all too much. But there is one big, huge improvement that could help this board. A plea toward revitalization. At the very least it could provide drama. ...nevermind. I deleted it. So on to the St. Louis Covids. The Cubs are currently 13-6, while the Cards are ...4-4?! And we didn't get to watch any games last weekend because these death-wish-cult redbirds can't refrain from pulling slot machines?! So, this game is, I think, only supposed to go 7 innings. Followed by another 7 inning game in the evening. I have to say, Day/Night double headers are delicious. Most especially if Hendricks can get through game 1 in 70 pitches, and just keep it going with a short turnover game 2 and pitch 2-4 more innings. I haven't gotten to watch much of the season so far, but from what I have seen, Happ is the most encouraging occurence by far. Before, he could only really rake from the left side of the plate, but little did we know: I am immeasurably annoyed that the Cardinals haven't been cancelled from the season. Unsurprisingly, they fell for one of the classic blunders: never attend a casino while a global pandemic is ongoing! Ok, fine. Let's just contemplate just how wise Westley really was.
  3. My driver was worse than it's ever been. I hit the first 3 shots I made out of bounds. I prob averaged 120 yards with it, for the day. The driver never recovered, but I averaged 2 putts a green, chipped like a pro, and my long irons and 3 wood were awesome...I shot a 104. I'm the horsefeathers!!! Meanwhile, my dad shot a 72. BUT, I beat him on two of the three holes where I shot par, one of which was "the beer hole" so he had to buy a round. I'm certain I'll go pro within the year.
  4. I play golf about once every two years or so, and the clubs I've been using were really nice...back in the 60s when they were made. I recently was given another set of used clubs, but these are at least close to the same age as me, and the club faces aren't the size of a baby's fist, so I decided to watch some youtube vids to try and correct my "starting right and still slicing" swing. I've NEVER been able to hit long irons for sh1t. Mostly would hit a 5 wood with a half swing instead. Some days I can hit my driver 250 with just a hint of a slice, but most of the time its 210-230 and 30-50 degrees off of straight, and that's when I don't completely shank it and its going 50 yards straight into a bush. Chipping and putting has always been my forte. Went to the driving range and decided to test the new clubs, and some swing adjustments. Now, I just focus on the thumb of my right hand, and making sure its pointing at the ball as I make contact. Rolling over my wrists, essentially. DOOOD. I've been striping it like 85% of the time. I'm doing 18 holes tomorrow, and I probably jinxed myself typing this, but I think I'm going to stomp my old PR.
  5. I got 14-1 a while ago on the Avs, so go Avs.
  6. Something ridiculous happens literally every time I go to a Cubs game at Coors, be it on the field or off. I was at the Dex GW HR. Sosa's 3 3-run HR game in 98. Javy's debut. Got to see Mark Prior's first (and I believe only) HR. A friend also threw a seat cushon onto the field from the cheap seats after a Cubs HR, and then the entire crowd followed suit, and it resulted in a 10 minute delay. A drunk Rockies fan sitting behind me, who decided I was a fun guy to banter with, went on to give me a wet willy. A WET WILLY! Probably the 2nd closest I've ever been in my life to just punching someone in the face. He left his seat after I shouted at/threatened him for a few minutes. Unreal. I'm mad just thinking about it again. ...although a have a stupider story from the last time I went to Wrigley which is too involved and dumb and off-topic to go into detail here.
  7. Well sure. The catcher was clearly expecting a slider and got a two-seamer instead. There was a man on 2nd so I'm going to guess it was the pitcher who didn't pick up the new signs correctly.
  8. No Souza is weird, maybe there’s something in whatever data they’re looking at that says don’t play him. But yeah if Almora isn’t playing vs lefties (he shouldn’t, he sucks) what exactly is it that he does here.gif? Get Dietrich or Miller or Perez up here then. I know that you weren't necesarily suggesting bringing up Dietrich to face lefties, but he has a .656 lifetime OPS versus them.
  9. Highly recommend. Maybe it’s because I was already playing a “hit thing on ground with a stick” sport, and maybe it’s because I haven’t actually played a real round yet and my hubris will catch up with me, but I have a sneaking suspicion it’s easier to be not terrible than many people have you believe. I see a lot of patterns that mirror other hobbies I’ve picked up where a vocal minority insisted it was incredibly difficult to get better but they were mostly shooting themselves in the foot. I am pretty sure a lot of struggling amateur golfers are 1) neglecting their short game. Ive got a putting mat and chipping target at home, and anytime I have some downtime to watch tv or kid wants to be left alone in the yard, I’m grinding the simple shots. 2) overhitting to chase distance. 100% agree. People are generally horrible at everything, and golf especially so. And yeah Wrigley, your friends are all probably horrible and there is nothing to be intimidated by. I ESPECIALLY agree with the idea "it’s easier to be not terrible than many people have you believe." It reminds me of your comments about being a hockey goalie... Its not to say that there isn't a skill in being a goalie or playing golf. Everything has a learning curve, and everything athletic requires coordination and speed and strength that differentiates overall preformance, and really starkly when you get to upper levels. But just because people exist that are WAY better than you'll even dream of being, it doesn't mean you can't reach competancy (compared to the sea of rubes that we populate) relatively quickly if you have a good mind set and a desire to improve.
  10. I play with blades because all of my clubs are castoffs from other family members who are actually good at golf. I think that means everyone should use them. Side note: a text message informed me my dad hit another hole in one today, at a tournament this time.
  11. I always like some weirdo for arbitrary reasons unrelated to WAR. He was also only on the team for like 1 month. You're only off by about 4 years, but who's counting.
  12. Jose was my favorite Cub at the time, but even back then it was obviously an awesome trade. Jose Hernandez was your favorite Cubs player on a team that had Sammy Sosa, Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, good CPatt, Big Z, etc? I mean, your favorite could be whoever but that's weird as hell lol I always like some weirdo for arbitrary reasons unrelated to WAR.
  13. Jose was my favorite Cub at the time, but even back then it was obviously an awesome trade.
  14. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-mlb-predictions/ Nate agrees with you.
  15. 1B and SS stand out to me.
  16. Mad libs are fun. This one didn't really come together though.
  17. I think you are my least favorite internet person, and that is saying a whole hell of a lot.
