    Is the ability out there to build a winner through FA this season? If the Cubs got like Zito, Schmidt, Soriano, and C. Lee, I'd still have doubts of whether they can contend. I agree entirely. Luckily it seems like the central is dropping off so maybe becoming even a little better might make the difference. But still...I don't see us becoming some huge World Series contender through free agents. It will depend, at least a little, on one or two trades we make.

    I thought this was a really good post that got lost in the shuffle. I agree with this completely. From playing through pee-wee to little league and so forth...defense is horribly important. You'd have th 3-4 really good players on your team that would be put in some of the main defensive spots, and they were also usually your best hitters. Everybody else usually was unable to really play defense all that well and that was why it was constantly practiced. It gets in your mindset then that since you practice it so much, it is the most important thing. Until you hit college ball.

    HE'S ONLY GOT ONE PITCH!~~~!! Rich Hill is not a starter! He never will be! I've been preaching this all year long... See, I think that's fine to think that, and you might be right. But why not pitch Hill...not like we have any options that are better. Might as well be definite instead of letting Rusch rejoin the rotation. I'm just afraid Hendry would trade for somebody like a Jeff Weaver, he'd go 3-0 with a 3.28 ERA get signed to a 3 year extension for 4 million a year and haunt us for the rest of our lives.
