I’d put him up there with Kyle Shanahan, but yes very highly regarded. But I don’t care how good a coordinator and coach Ben is, you just can’t win with the type of performance Caleb showed today. He was really bad and did not show improvement.
Nobody said he was a great head coach. He’s a great play caller, but it’s going to be a learning process as he does things he’s never been exposed to in the moment. Let’s not forget that the Bears turned the ball over on downs on the Minnesota 24 in the 2nd quarter.
3 TD drives in the 4th quarter. And he did it on the road in primetime. Yes the Bears were down key starters on defense, but Dennis Allen is a great defensive coordinator and McCarthy and O’Connell got the last laugh.
lol
Listening to O’Connell talk in his presser about how he told McCarthy at halftime that he would win the game for them is the complete opposite of what Caleb’s teammates must feel about him. I think Caleb has leadership intangibles, but he just doesn’t have the consistent it factor to be a good NFL QB.
50 yards isn’t medium range, but NFL kickers make 50 yarders 75% of the time (Santos is around 65%). The other thing about that kick is that Santos barely got the ball there. He’s only accurate because he rarely attempts long FGs.
They weren’t awful until the 4th quarter and McCarthy made a bunch of good throws to bury the Bears. You can’t expect much more from a rookie on the road in primetime.
He did last year a few times, but I still don’t expect it. He just doesn’t look like a good QB. He’s way too uneven. Caleb has to be a reason the Bears win and he wasn’t tonight.
Having 3 of your top 4 defensive starters out hurts. But Caleb got outplayed too and this game was very concerning because he is still inaccurate, still tries to do too much, and still can’t make the right quick or deep read.
I am very afraid that Caleb doesn’t have it. I want him to, but the more I see of him the more nervous I get. You just don’t get a long leash anymore these days My only consolation is that I think the Bears know they have a backup who might be better.
What has Warren done but dragged out the Bears stadium situation which cost the McCaskeys hundreds of millions of dollars, made bad videos telling everyone how much work he does, and extended a GM who has been really bad overall?
I really don’t know what you can do as a coordinator when your QB is this inaccurate. You can coach the bad reads and not seeing the field properly, but the inaccuracy is a huge problem.
