  1. With the amount of money the Bears are giving Urlacher, they are getting a great deal. Yeah I know he can be replaced, but he is sure important. He shouldn't get Urlacher money, but pretty close.
  2. Briggs had just as many tackles as Urlacher last year. Don't undervalue him. Is Adewale's availability still up in the air? Would Anderson start? If he does I would run right at him.
  3. He seemed to screw up the easy plays at times. But he'll get better. I have confidence in the man.
  4. Bobby Valentine? No way.
  5. Garciaparra tore his quad. Not good for LA, but their season was over anyway.
  6. So they won't let him make any major decisions until the team is sold?
  7. Sorry is this question has already been answered, but do we know how long McDonough is going to tbe the President? Will he be official or are they looking for someone else?
  8. Not sure if this has been posted, but the Score intervied Marlins pitcher Matt Herges today. He loved Girardi and said that much of the bad press is wrong on him, but wouldnt call people out the false reports specifically because he is still on the Marlins. According to Herges, there is always a percentage of players who dont like the coach on most teams, but every player on the Marlins supported and liked Girardi. Even Cabrera, who Herges said normally does not mesh well with those in authority, at the last day of the season publicly told the teram at a team meeting while in tears how much he appreciated and respected Girardi.
  9. True or False: Tommy Harris is the best defensive player in the NFL right now
  10. A lot a people don't like Benson because of the extended holdout and because they think of him as weak. The play when he got hurt during training camp looked wimpy. I am not saying he isn't tough, but that one coupled with the rumors that when Benson got injured last season and took much longer to come back that expected have got a few players on the team and some former players a little peeved at him.
  11. I really enjoy the Bears radio guys. Joniak is great. Grossman going DEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPP. I love that.
  12. Hampton's criticism of Benson or Jones?
  13. He needs to know that if you are receiving a punt deep in your own territory, you never try to return a punt inside your own 10 unless it is a boomer and you have plenty of room to return it. But the big drop step that was called for when Grossman threw the interception was not smart. You have to run and get ourself out of trouble first. Grossman was lucky though cause he could have given up at least two more picks. But he picked himslef up and helped get the W. Let me say this: Tommie Harris is a flat out stud. Man is he good. Urlacher played terrible. The whole team couldnt tackle today. I am not sure if it the line or Jones, but the running attack needs to get better. Jones was running better at the end of the game though. He historically does do that. Suprised that Benson and Peterson didn't get in at all. But with the amount of pressure the Vikes were brining today, maybe Lovie wanted a RB who could block. The last play the Vikes did, I am not sure that the deep ball was the first option. It shouldn't have even been an option. But soem Bear was bringing pressure and I think Johnson just threw the ball up because that was al he could see. Still a really dumb play on 4th and 2 with the game on the line.
  14. I heard that too. Game 1 equals a Cub blowout though. Always happens.
  15. Unless they were able to put out a moderately-priced yet winning team. Other teams have done it. The Twins didn't spend 100 million. I don't think the fan base would care as long as they won. If you have a cheap payroll that means you are most likely fielding a team of younger playes. The Cubs' minor league system appears to be quite dry so that hypothesis won't work. But heck the fans wouldnt care if the Cusb won with a 50 million dollar team. Now that won't happen, but they wouldnt care if it did. I ust dont see the Cubs slashing 25 million and getting better.

  17. The question is: How bad do they need money immediately? If they need a lot of money immediately, they may sell it. If they're ok with just having the steady income, then they won't. To me it's like someone owning a property that they rent out, and that property has skyrocketed in value for some reason or another. Do you want the security of steady income, or do you want to get the maximum value out on the sale? With Hnedry at the helm, the Cubs will be average for years. People will catch on and stop going. Then the value will shrink.
  18. True. Strategic? I guess not. A moneymaker? Certainly.
  19. There's more to that article if you want to read more. But there is no clue in there that they might sell the Cubs. The Cubs make them money so why sell it? My guess is that they restructure the Tribune Co, sell what isn't needed, but keep the Cubs. It's the best of both worlds.
  20. I understand your point. This year though----there's got to be a drop in revenue. Those stands are looking pretty empty these days. Who knows how many hot dogs are going cold, replica jerseys remaining unsold.....advertisers complaining about the dropping viewership. Trib will never tell us. But some of that has to be happening. Fan interest in this team has dropped through the floor this year. All of those tickets were already sold. They people just never came. Yes they lost some beer money, but overall it wasnt so bad. Now if they would have got the right players, they would have made the playoffs and then made a real killing. The Tribune Co isnt that smart.
  21. But the NL is so weak that by completing some trades and picking up some FA, the Cubs can seriously contend for the pennant next year. THe Cubs have the pieces in place to be good very soon only because the NL is weak.
  22. It all adds up though. Even the rich guys can be sticklers.
  23. The MacPhail Run=good for the Tribune because they are making tons of cash. So when you judge MacPhail, by whose standards are you judging? Why would they ever fire him?
  24. True, but if the Tribune wants to sell the Cubs it would be an easier sell with a clean managerial slate. You could buy Hendry out. He isn't expensive (if the new owner doesn't like him). But managerial decisions usually come pretty quickly after the WS so the Cubs would have to sell quick if they want to go this route. But doesn't the process of selling a team take months?
  25. On a separate note, Bonds supposeldy lied on the stand. He said that he didn't know he was taking steroids. Well then why isn't he suing the guy who gave him them? If Bonds is consistent, he shoudl do this. But he knows he can't. That would blow up in his face and would further prove his guilt.
