  1. You guys absolutely outplayed us in the last two games and deserved to win. Still think Lane should have pinch hit that last AB but that doesn't change the fact that you outplayed us. Bravo. Now I am going to go get much more drunk.
  2. Hey UK, you should have seen Derk last night. He was wearing a bowtie for the game broadcast.
  3. 1. So you were sitting around a few astros fans saying it was foul. Can you attest to the other several thousand booing a pitcher that just given up another homerun (on a two striek count I believe) after the team who had not scored any runs in two games had just tied the score? 2. So we differ on the park. Each to his own. It is more sterile with the roof closed than open, but personally I don't like to sit outside in Houston when it's raining or when the heat index is topping 110 degrees. I do wish they would open the roof more later in the game, but Drayton thinks fan comfort is more important. You'll see the roof open more in September when the death heat leaves. I encourage you to sit on the first baseline with the roof open and check out the skyline behind left field. It's a great site. But like I said if you don't like it I understand, to each his own. 3. You are smart to note the start of school, which certainly factored into the attendence. But to say they only sell out when Roger is pitching is also incorrect, I think they are still avg. ~ 35K. 4. I never said I agreed with the laid back style of Houston fans. They remind me sometimes of Atlanta fans who didn't sell out the first round of the playoffs. 5. You seem genuine and I am not trying to flame you. Good that you pointed out those shots to left were not cheap ones. But I agree it is frustrating sometimes when you give up a 315' Crawford Box special, as I like to call them. BUt it works both ways, and when the wind is howling out of Wrigley how hard to you need to hit a ball to get it out. Glad you went to the game, go again in September when the roof is open and sit in the Terrace deck on the 1st base side behind homeplate. ~ $20 bucks and even better than sitting down close b/c of the "movie theater balcony" perspective you get on everything.
  4. 1. MMP doesn't suck. It's a great palce to watch a game. You can have good sightlines from almost anywhere in the park, and it feels cozy even though it seats 45K. It's easy to get in and out of as well. It doesn't have thr tradition of Wrigley, but what does? It's still a great place to see a game. 2. Houston sports fans are just laid back in general. Have you been to a Rockets game? They don't make much noise, sans football. That's just Houston, always been that way and always will. 28K is about right for Monday night. Tonight you'll see a bigger turnout. 3. They weren't booing the call, they were booing the pitcher.
  5. she HAS cancer they're runnin out of you! What's the difference, you're their all time best seller!
  6. Good old fashioned August baseball series coming up. I was very impressed with your series this weekend with the Redbirds. Pitching matchups are kinda in your favor (esp. tonight) and we've had a hard time scoring any runs lately. Should be a good one, let's get it on!
  7. That's a good one.
  8. Yeah plus I'd be a lot more comfortable with The Rajah, Oswalt, and Pettite as far from the playoffs as possible. Call me paranoid, but that's not a three man rotation I'd relish facing in a 5 or 7 game series. Nah, those guys are scrubs. No one here ever said they were scrubs, Jimy. You can quit with the act. All I ever said was that Roger and Roy were playing to their ability, and Pettitte was way over his head over the past month+, and I think most non-Houston fans would agree with me. Since June 1, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte and Oswalt are a combined 24-7 with a collective 1.75 ERA in 38 starts.
  9. Roger's dome isn't as big as a watermelon like Bonds'. Honestly, I think the fact that he is at home and has the luxury of not attending every game/workout has helped him out. I assume he'll be back next year, he stands to make about 20m and he's certainly still at the top of his game.
  10. I don't like Barrett. 8)
  11. I respectfully disagree. Are you going to refute anything I say or are you just disagreeing? What do you want me to say? I like you guys over here, and have been posting here for a long time. I don't see any reason to kick someone when they're down, you guys are struggling and that's painful enough. I just think it's a little far fetched to start talking post season when you've won 1 game after losing 8 straight.
  12. I respectfully disagree.
  13. couldn't care less :!:
  14. Good post. I agree. I think the hardest thing for you guys is not only that you are 7.5 back, but that you also have 5 teams in front of you.
  15. I figured there would be a thread like this over here.
  16. The WC has been one of the best things for baseball in the modern era, IMHO. Wy would you want to change that? It's still very difficult to make the MLB postseason, it's not like we have the NBA or NHL here. Plus, we have expanded enough, I am tired of watering down the talent pool. There are already too many BS cities that can't or won't support a team already. Baseball is fine, leave it alone! No realignment, no expansion, and no salary cap!
  17. You look eerily like Steve Bartman in that photo! LOL, I was going to say the same thing.
  18. Yeah plus I'd be a lot more comfortable with The Rajah, Oswalt, and Pettite as far from the playoffs as possible. Call me paranoid, but that's not a three man rotation I'd relish facing in a 5 or 7 game series. Nah, those guys are scrubs.
  19. Hendry should have moved the vets when he had a chance. I'm curious, if Perez and Macias are so valuable why not see what worth they have in the open market? Maybe they can save another team from despair like they did the Cubs. I agree that Wood should get the surgery done ASAP so he will be ready for 2006. Interesting that you say that. I have read rumblings from different GMs around the league regarding moving the deadline back to Sept. 1st. The thought being there are still a lot of teams in the race at the current deadline, so there aren't many sellers.
  20. You could do much worse than Larry Dierker, although it would make me ill.
  21. All your unis belong to me. http://www.the-coffeys.com/pictures/vals/Z01.jpg
  22. You just can't expect this to happen season after season. We waited for the Cardinals to "come back down to earth" last year, it didn't happen until the World Series. Houston is playing good baseball, they're getting great pitching, some timely hitting and executing fundamental baseball. Why would anyone expect that to stop? Plus they have the experience of last season when they went on a run to come within a game of the World Series. The Cubs, as presently constructed, are not capable of stringing together a long winning streak or two to make a serious run at the WC. I expect it to stop because they are playing above their talent level right now. Also, what examples of fundamental baseball are the Astros executing? I don't understand why that phrase seemingly gets thrown in to describe a team any time they have a hot streak. The Cardinal pitchers were seemingly "pitching above their talent level" last season. We waited and waited for their staff to come back to earth, then we would pass them...never happened. So why would the Astro's talent level cause them to start losing all of a sudden? They may not be as talented as this Cub team but they are supplementing it with hard work, fundamental baseball and yes, a little bit of luck. It happens in sports, the most talented teams don't always win, history is littered with teams that made the extra effort to overcome their deficiencies and beat the odds. Houston has been playing well for about a month and a half, I hardly call that a hot streak. As for examples, find your own. It most certainly is a hot streak. You're the one who made the claim that they were playing fundamental baseball, with hard work. Where's the proof of that? I ask, because it seems like people just assume a cliche like fundamentals every time a team does well. It's certainly possible the Astros are playing great fundamental baseball, which I'm not exactly sure what it is to begin with. However, to simply assume something like that because they are winning isn't right IMO. The 'stros are 45-18 in their last 63. That's one hell of a "hot streak." They are getting GREAT pitching, stealing bases, moving runners over, getting timely pinch hits and getting very solid defense. That's fundamental baseball. Will it hold up? Who knows, but there's more to it that a "hot streak."
