  1. Been saying this for a while and most definitely agree... The contrarian in me still wants to, and probably will be, more optimistic than I should be on Simpson. Actually think Brownlie was a WORSE gamble than him because Brownlie only fell because he was already injured. Worse was that all the injuries were shoulder related and he was drafted AFTER he lost significant velocity and bite on his curveball.
  2. Think so? I'm not there yet. I won't be surprised if Felix leaves Seattle. I will be stunned if he leaves Seattle as a free agent. I think it's extremely likely he's dealt for a massive haul in the next couple of years. It's really their best option since what is it...2 draft picks otherwise? I expect the Cubs to be one of the biggest suitors of both Felix and the younger Upton once they hit the market in any form...
  3. he was gone 30 picks ago Yeah just caught that. Damn your quick hands for beating me to the edit...Should have double checked....Anyway: Jets select OL James Brown Troy.
  4. Damn Jenkins goes one pick before...that would have been my choice. Jets select ILB/LB Mychal Kendricks.
  5. Hea done it many times IIRC...that and his past two really strong starts have been blown at the end...one by bullpen and one by himself.
  6. What a pointless statement. Unless the most likely thing happens this less likely thing will happen. Haha shut up that's so grody. Take solace that by then the Cubs should be one of the trade suitors. Most definitely...not jus velocity but IIRC his change up is his only plus pitch these days. I should fact check that but...phones.
  7. Yeah Castillo has been around a while....I remember reading about him in a whiiile back...He pretty much sounded like another Soto, in a good way. He looks like a better athlete...
  8. Was thinking the Mets as well, though they might not be spending...the Yankees might let Granderson hit the market because they have to pay Cano and want to spend a little less. We're going to see teams that value defense go after him for sure. The Giants are a nice sleeper, though they're usually not big in the FA game. Speaking of the Mets....yay or nay on David Wright? Another one that could see a boost in numbers upon leaving his home park IMO, but even then I find his decline a little overblown. I do think they'll work to keep him just because he's supposedly the face of the franchise, but there's a legit shot he hits FA.
  9. [expletive]. Was strongly considering this player for the Jets. Think he'll be a 10 year start at RT. Strong pick.
  10. Literally laughed out loud at this. More economical...more consistent...He's definitely always had the "throws alot of pitches early" knock...Right with Vitters as the hardest player to gauge in this system, but I have significantly more confidence in Vitters. I seriously have no [expletive] clue as to what out of McNutt. Does anyone have any velocity reports for him so far? Is he more of a 91-94 type righty?
  11. Delmon Young: .288/.321/.427 (.749 OPS), career fWAR: 1.5 BJ Upton: .257/.342/.416 (.759 OPS), career fWAR: 19.8 (in 82 more games) The trouble with Delmon is that whatever he does this season makes him sort of a catch 22. Either he has a mediocre season like he has the majority of his big league career aside from 2010, and he's only worth signing if he'll take a 2-3 year low base salary/incentive laden contract or he has a breakout year, and somebody overpays for him in hopes that it's not just a fluke. Wouldn't touch Young with a 10 foot pole...Just don't trust the player and don't even find his talent to be exceptional. Agreed with sp that when you see Upton brought up next offseason it will be with him connected to the teams with big name/innovative FOs.
  12. Bumgarner was 5 years away from FA anyway. One thing I can guarantee you...Unless traded beforehand both Felix Hernandez and Justin Upton will hit FA in back to back seasons...Seriously, I guarantee it. Lincecum too...2014 and 2015 IIRC for these three. Oh, and possibly young Rick Porcello, who'll be all of 26 when he hits FA, I think.
  13. At 28 I think top of the third is ideal.
  14. Gausman probably should be acknowledged as the top college pitcher considering he's got the total package. That said, I think that hype should start after he falls to 6.
  15. How about Brett, Upton, AND Upton in the same OF? That's the dream 2015!
  16. Iunno, how many hours of your life has it cost you? Admittedly I thought I left that post to hang. That was bad...Probably the only bad post-pick comment I've made. What're we supposed to do just stare at it? It's a message board mock with plenty of hours between picks...
  17. That depends on how good the two-three prospect is...It's not like Jackson is the champion of a great system...A better #1 than Archer sure, but relative to the rest of the baseball world hes not a top tier prospect.... And let's be serious here...Melky Cabrera and whoever is a better offensive or all around player than Upton?
  18. Whoa whoa whoa...as bad as you think Upton is he was a significantly more high profile prospect than Jackson who did better in the minors and was up in the bigs having a monster season at Jackson's age. In actuality this is exactly the class of player you want the Cubs to pursue, especially factoring age and park factors in...Were talking an above average CFer in his prime here..... I didn't say Upton was bad, I said he wasn't so good you give him the job without letting Jackson take a crack at it. Even that's not true...to be perfectly honest Jackson is kind of a sell high guy if he is pretty much the same player as last year. Hea as likely to regress as he is to take a leap....and I see Upton post-injury as pretty damn close to his ceiling, while BJ has showed some signs of moving past his injury. Drink the numbers in...far more like Upton than dislike him...
  19. WSR Upton is better than Young and has been around a 4 WAR CF the past three years IIRC. Would pass on Young tbh...actually an overrated player.
  20. 21. I was thinking more 5/75 to 5/85 for Upton. MAYBE 5/90 since he's a CF with such a strong pedigree and he'll be all of 28 when he signs. I actually feel like a team would be buying low on him...though that's probably impossible in FA. I really don't get what's not to like about the guy 77. I admit I haven't been impressed with your reasoning for why he's overrated. Most of the numbers say his offense is hurt by his park and the run environment he plays in....Plus the AL Eaat has been good stuff for other divisions to grab talent that gets out (happily gets out).
  22. It's because he's the quietest superstar in the game. I didn't even think of him.
  23. Too bad he'll go to waste. Brian Schottenheimer ruined Mark Sanchez by not making life easy enough for him. Note: I don't mean this, but I do think it's hilarious that blame the OC hit Jet fans for about the millionth time in a row STILL without them going "OOOOOOOOH, it's the QUUUUUUUARTERBACK who sucks!" I'm actually highly curious about the completely irrelevant after 2001 Rams going forward in 2012. I want to see if Schottenheimer can help out a QB who can actually pass the ball. With Jackson and James and an OL that plays up they should have the running game, and I do Fisher will get that OL in shape.
  24. Man I can't wait until Baez is a big deal in the prospect and then real world. On baseball talent alone he's probably the top guy in this system already, but he's got to perform as well.
