  1. Actually like Stroman more than Gray. Very similar stuff but I'd say that Stroman commands his better. I'm a fan of both.
  2. I dot think its possible for me to care less that Ramirez and Cashner are no longer Cubs.
  3. Pretty much...Trade Jeff S. would be madness this year.
  4. I like Stroman alot. Those other guys would be real wtf picks.
  5. Any guess on what level Whitenack finishes the season? He does have a good arm.
  6. Darvill, Zych, and Burgess did good things.
  7. Another Shark start I'll miss. Damn you, my laziness, for not finishing this paper! I can't get over how nasty Shark's stuff is combined with how easy his mechanics appear to be. It's seriously my favorite thing about baseball this year.
  8. Any velocity drop is significant because he's yet to string a few (say random number...5) starts in a row with the same velocity. No bueno IMO....
  9. Yeah he's as close to a Prior as the Yankees get...Had he grabbed 1B by the balls in 2001 (and not get hurt all the time) they might not have spent 300 million on the position since then. That and I think Steinbrenner wanted to spend and didn't like the fact that he was 22 and doughy.
  10. Complete game five hitter with 11 K's for Guasman against disappointing but talented Vanderbilt. Didn't did Appel's line but his game was against Washington State IIRC.
  11. I know what I'm going to say. They both K too much. rizzo strikes out too much? Not crazy like Jackson but 132 in AA during his last full season in the minors. Hell even 89 in 356 ABs last year isn't all that great. I'm not actually overly worried about either, but have to keep 'em on their toes?
  12. I know what I'm going to say. They both K too much.
  13. Rotfl that guy is such a Grade A level douche. He's probably some kind of experiment.
  14. I'll always remember Nick Johnson as the guy who did this: 1999 20 Norwich EL AA NYY 132 G 581 PA 420 ABs 114 R 145 H 33 2B 5 3B 14 HR 87 RBI 123 BB 88 K .345/.525/.548/1.073 He was a pretty good young 1B but injuries always messed him up. Awesome skillset but never a real athletic body and looked 30 when he was 22, which is all easy to say with hindsight. Probably my ideal skillset, even with the HR power. Big fan of guys like him or Wade Boggs (or most any great hitter) who could make a contact, still draw a bunch of walks (though Jeter never walked much and he was a highly skilled hitter) hit doubles and worked the gaps, played D, and hit for average. He just didn't work out. Sans walks, that's why Castro is a future superstar if he keeps developing, and why I have some optimism in The Vitters pulling out a career.
  15. Said it before amongst the junk balling lefties Raley is the one to watch at the upper levels. He's always been amongst the best athletes in the system and was a two way player when drafted. Raley is not close to as talented (read: doesn't have the fastball) as him, but in Shark we're seeing the impact top shelf athleticism can have for a raw pitcher who stays healthy. He could turn out to be a useful arm if he keeps performing. K's are always good to see, especially from a lefty starter.
  16. That's 3 for Vitters in May, right? Funny situation for him...Struggle in the PCL and it's wtf man this is the PCL...hit and there's still questions if he helped by the PCL's general run environment. Catch-22 or sumthin.
  17. Just reading through this thread Zimmer's velocity has fluctuated more than any other of the top guys. He's got a good arm, there's no doubt, but a quick rise with inconsistent velocity reports plants some doubts. Gausman and Appel are more well scouted and for the most part have held up. I might even lik Wacha more, maybe. That said I prefer he keeps his stock high and someone either overdrafts him or the Cubs pass on draft night.
  18. A lefty at that...Newark, NJ native so I'll root for him. I dont get it, is he hurt? He's their Jay Jackson...just never developed after some strong early showings. Mechanics aren't supposed to be good, never gained velocity, and his curveba of doom no longer brings doom. Maybe hes an [expletive]...got out of shape or just stopped working or something. You'd think he'd wait to get paid first so maybe he's just bad.
  19. Chris Iannetta injured for the Angels. Soto for Conger and arms as the Cubs pile up the still-a-prospect PCL superstars. BOOM I'm going to call Francesa and get the ball rolling. Edit: Completely agreed with JCF. Cubs should be happy to pay the tab in exchange for better talent.
  20. A lefty at that...Newark, NJ native so I'll root for him.
  21. 1) The defensive skills aren't new. The FO/coaches emphasizing it is. 2) They could also use his power if he can get hot. They did make use of Ibanez in LF for WS runs...They're actually the team I'm most hopeful on when it comes to dumping Soriano.
  22. As bad as the Phillies have been, they're still only 5.5 out and when you have starting pitching like they do you have a very good chance to make a run at any time. I don't know when Howard or Utley are coming back, but they should start shopping Blanton or Kendrick for offense. The Yankees would likely be interested. perhaps a deal for Swisher. Phillies middle relief has also been pretty horrible. I'd love to sell them on Soriano and Marmol for a package built around Dom Brown. They could bite assuming we eat the lions share of the money. Actually agreed on all points and hopes...Would love to sell them Soriano and Marmol and grab the fallen Brown in the process...and I do think their pitching will help them turn it around enough to get into the tournament. They are a decent spot for Soriano...they spend...the park and being a contender might put some life into his bat...he plays D...hes been on playoff teams before....the Cubs might cover a good deal of the cost, especially for an upside talent...Probably only happens in my dreams.
  23. Soriano's never really been a terrible defensive OFer in the first place. He's actually pretty well liked by whatever Fangraphs uses (UZR?). He does have a tendency to look awkward doing it.
  24. I actually thought he was reminicent of Ben Wells. Big bodied HS arm with long arms, the ability to spin the breaking ball, and a fastball with alot of movement. Someone a team could really mold into a mid rotation guy.
  25. ouch Also passed on Ryan Zimmerman and Ryan Bruan.
