  1. spoken like a guy who doesn't have tickets to the play in game at wrigley  Very true. That would change things.
  2. I think it's kind of annoying when people come into game threads and show off how little they care about games, but I'm going to kind of do that here, so excuse me. But I'm kind of surprised how amped up Cubs fandom is over this series. I mean, sure, winning is cool and home field would be cool, but we're in, man. As ridiculous as the PNC dimensions are, playing for what stadium will be hosting the wild card game isn't enough to get me nervous, or enough for me to care much if we lose this.
  3. Shark has no choice but to bet on himself next year. ERA up to 5.27. I wonder what he'll do with his cutter after this season. He's throwing it a lot more than he used to which is probably why his strikeouts are way down. I wanted to say he should abandon the pitch and focus on his fastball, split, and slider in order to get more K's, but looking at fangraphs' pitch values, his cutter has been his second best pitch this year. He's thrown his fastball under 40% of the time this season after being over 55% with the Cubs. Just kind of weird he changed his pitch selection so much after a really good season.
  4. There are some weaknesses that could hurt come playoff time - strikeouts, outfield defense, every pitcher besides Arrieta, Lester, and Rondon have struggled recently, etc. - but damn Arrieta and Lester are/will be a dynamic 1-2 punch.
  5. Am I the only one who sees fat Miguel Montero with a mustache when looking at him? https://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/ypKztf73crggaaPfCQ4vRKTK3e8=/0x88:3922x2703/730x487/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/45211392/usa-today-8274049.0.jpg
  6. People are so afraid to sound like a meatball when RBIs are brought up and have to prove how little they care about it. Like yeah, it's 2015 and pretty much everyone understands how to value the stat. When Bryant gets to 100 as a rookie, for example, it's OK to say it's neat without prefacing it with how stupid RBIs are.
  7. So here's the video of Tulo's injury yesterday. I thought his reaction was pretty funny, and still kind of do, even though it is a fairly serious injury. But watching it, it doesn't LOOK that bad. Dude just can't stay healthy. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/149078024/troy-tulowitzki-could-return-by-end-of-season
  8. IF the wild card game is played at PNC, and if you were Joe Maddon, would you at all consider starting Jackson over one of Coghlan/Schwarber?
  9. I think the report was the Padres kind of preferred Josh Byrnes anyway, so I could've seen Hoyer leaving the Padres even without Theo.
  10. lol, we just have so many relievers. I was just thinking we haven't seen Hunter lately, but the same goes for like five other guys down there.
  11. I don't mean this in a snarky way, as it's a serious question, but if that play isn't it, when does the blocking the plate rule apply? Are they saying the throw didn't allow the catcher to make a lane?
  12. I don't really understand the rule, but that has to be blocking the plate.
  13. hahaha, I got a good laugh out of that one
  14. are there but 2 or 3 good power hitters in this era that aren't? if you walk and you dong in 2015, you probably strike out a lot too I didn't mean that in a way where I was just complaining about the strikeouts. The amount of K's has surprised me, but he's also got a .316 ISO right now. I knew he was a really good hitter, but that is definitely a pleasant surprise.
  15. Schwarber has been so much more three true outcome-y than I was expecting.
  16. That was really something.
  17. It's Bryant for me. In any sport, I like watching the guys who were super hyped and have lived up to it. Bryant is obviously that.
  18. Richard, Wood, and Edwards in short spurts leading up to the late inning guys could actually be pretty decent. Even Cahill's stuff as a reliever looked pretty good the other day.
  19. We need to pass the Pirates first.
  20. I've watched about 20 minutes of the Yankees-Blue Jays game and there's been two ~315 ft homers to RF. Bryant would hit 60 homers if he were a Yankee.
  21. Now would've been a good time for DiamondMind to pop in and say how much he likes Pence. I also had no idea Twitch was a thing.
  22. The lack of talent on this Phillies team is kind of startling. Though it's probably not much different from 2012 for us.
  23. hahaha, he front-foots a ball that was down and sends it off the batter's eye. Unreal raw power.
  24. Hell yeah, Schwarbs. And ewwwww, this pitcher's TJS scar is quite gross
  25. We would've actually witnessed a murder had Lester been on the mound.
