  1. At this rate, Heyward's "mental break" time off might need to be in spring training this year instead of August.
  2. Bryant, after he combines his minor league opposite field ability and last year's K rate.
  3. The answer to our road uni problems was right in front of our noses just two years ago. I want those back.
  4. [tweet] [/tweet] Not entirely sure why, but I read this like a Trump tweet in my head. Might be the exclamation point.
  5. Damn that was a short offseason. Love it. I've been pretty antsy for it to start for a while, but still, that was quick. Let's keep these deep playoff runs going.
  6. I'd be stunned if Heyward used either opt out at this point; I think he'd basically have to play at an MVP level these next few years. Supposedly a lot of teams had concerns about him, and that was before he put up a .600 OPS in a prime season. He'd be wise to stay put I think.
  7. I forget the rules; if we give the Yankees some compensation, Smith can start the season in the Cubs' minor league system? That seems too easy..
  8. Cubs to sign Brett Anderson, flush a couple million dollars down toilet
  9. another good tweet from that guy: [tweet] [/tweet]
  10. That's too bad, but if he demanded a one year deal, it's probably for the best we didn't have the highest offer. You don't want to delay Montgomery getting a starter's workload another year AND have to fill three rotation spots next offseason. I would've been happy with Ross if there was a second year or option thrown in, but not on a one year deal. Now, you might as well try to beef up the bullpen a bit more, as right now both Smith and Duensing have a spot. And obviously trade for a starter with options; I kind of have my eye on Cessa from the Yankees.
  11. Better than whatever Trump would spew out of his mouth if they went when he's in office. Exactly, I'll happily take some lame White Sox dad jokes. I got a kick out of how eager Theo was to visit the White House before Jan 20 when people asked him about this a while back.
  12. I'm kind of surprised the Cubs haven't come up in any Quintana rumors. If Hahn really is running things this offseason, I don't think the crosstown stuff would be an issue. Between Eloy, Happ, Candelario, etc it seems like there could be a match in there somewhere since they supposedly want a bat-heavy return. Is Eloy a top 20 guy currently, or not that high?
  13. I think he's a middle class man's prime Matt Cain and is exactly the type of pitcher FIP will underrate. I'd very much like to have him.
  14. I still think we end up with a starter that moves Montgomery to the pen. MM would still get periodic starts even if everyone is healthy in this scenario. Plus, it gets us closer to that super bullpen Theo is trying to build. I was pretty sure Soler was going to end up in Tampa, but now I'm thinking of something like Happ, one of Candelario/Zaguinis, and one of Clifton/De la Cruz for Odorizzi.
  15. I'm still intrigued by Ross, but having our two biggest offseason acquisitions be injured pitchers would be a little unsettling. Not that our season would depend on either of them, but still. I kinda feel like everything is set up for a trade of Happ and company to the Rays for Odorizzi.
  16. I wouldn't worry about that. Everyone is still happy after the world series and if they follow baseball rumors on twitter, I think they can tell the Cubs didn't try very hard to bring him back.
  17. lol at the end of this video http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/210716940/cubs-reportedly-close-to-signing-koji-uehara/
  18. Uehara held lefties to a .211 wOBA in 2016 and .218 in 2015. I don't care about handedness, he's my top guy for the role of getting tough lefties out. Since he's gonna be 42 in early April, I assume he could be had on a one year deal and would want to go to a winner. I kind of doubt another team would offer him a chance to close and entice him to go there with that role, but I suppose that's possible.
  19. Jesse Rogers just said on ESPN 1000 that Theo told him the Cubs will have 8 relievers to start the season. So there's definitely room for at least one more notable signing.
  20. Meh, if the medicals are good, I'm fine with this. He's in the Chapman and Jansen tier if you're confident in the elbow. I'll be interested to see how we go about finding a controllable starter now. I'd be inclined to think there's mutual interest in signing Tyson Ross to a multi year deal, but Rogers said he's gonna take his time deciding on a team. So I'm a little surprised we'd trade Soler before getting a starter, but I guess Theo knows he doesn't have to save him for that. Maybe something is in the works there too.
  21. Maybe I'm weird, but I'd still give up a decent amount for Miller. Stuff's still good and he's been healthy. Given the team control and health history, he's much more attractive to me than guys like Corbin and Bradley from that roster.
  22. A 3 team trade with Soler to the Rangers, Profar to either the Braves or Dbacks, and one of their pitchers coming back to us would make some sense. Other players would be added to even things out obviously. Both AZ and ATL appear to have full-ish outfields and could use a middle infielder.
  23. Ventura is a dick who might get himself killed in the NL, but I wonder if they'd be looking at him as a package with Davis.
