Of all the things to get mad at him for this season, we're deciding to freak out over his insane range on fly balls? Clearly, he just didn't hear Soriano. There have been plenty of times the last three seasons where Soriano has let up and allowed Castro get to catch anything he can get to, so Starlin was probably expecting more of the same. I get his season has been super disappointing and frustrating, but it's also disappointing to see some of the fans' responses to it. It can be hard when we follow this guy everyday, but I'll bet a lot of Cubs fans look at Elvis Andrus and say, "81 games in his age 24 season doesn't change much, considering what he's accomplished at a very young age." Granted, he's providing more value in other places, but the point stands. Let's all take it easy..
  2. This was the correct move. Keeping Parker up to see if he can become a valuable setup man is more important than trying to raise Marmol's non existent trade value.

I hate how Castro swings at everything and makes a lot of errors! Let's call up Baez!

Days off are not magic. It might work, but there's no guarantee. The team had days off before and after the two game series in Anaheim a couple weeks ago during the early stages of this massive slump. It didn't help him then.
  5. It can be used to describe a pitcher dominating. I've heard it used in that sense before.
  6. I'm assuming he's talking about the Jackson and McNutt for Headley rumors one of the PSD insiders mentioned. In other words, a price that wasn't considered cheap back then because of the value of the prospects and because Headley had one season with a 3+ fWAR at the time that was heavily influenced by UZR.
  7. It was close and a changeup. His off balance swing made it seem like more of a ball than it was.
  8. Really, really annoyed that catcher seemingly has become a hole that'll need attention. Brian Mccann will be a free agent this winter.
  9. Were you saying that five days ago? Not as much, which is why I'm hoping it's just frustration. However, I'm scared that I've been trying to deny what my eyes have been seeing for a while now because I want so much for Starlin to be a star. However, I've become more and more annoyed with his at bats and no longer want to use his age as an excuse. The dude could reach another level, but his approach at that plate simply won't allow him to at this point. Again, I hope I'm just speaking out of emotion because he's annoying the hell out of me. I understand. This is a game thread; frustration and emotion is fine here. I just think not liking him is taking it a bit far. It's easier to say all of that when he's in a 1/16 stretch. If that GD wind at Wrigley wasn't blowing in all of the time, his numbers would look quite a bit better. I won't show too much anger towards the youngest player on the roster just yet.
  10. Daytona is facing 2012 1st round pick Andrew Heaney. Sounds like he's getting quite a few swings and misses. Baez and Soler are both 1-2 with a swinging K. Baez' hit was a long double while Soler's was a single.
  11. Soler is in the lineup for Daytona. I never saw why he came out yesterday, but it must have been nothing.
  12. It's not like Bowden is much better than Camp, if he is at all. Bowden has a 5.00 xFIP and is striking out less than 4 batters per 9 innings. Neither are very good pitchers anymore. I suppose you could argue Bowden has more of a future though, as uninteresting as it may be.
  13. My guess is mid/late June. They gave Javy 57 games in Peoria, and Soler will have played in a similar amount by that time, assuming he stays healthy. The Peoria version of Javy had the better triple slash than Soler now, but Jorge has the much better peripherals. The FSL All Star game is in mid June as well.
  14. Are a few of the local guys bitter that a national writer beat them to this, trying to downplay Rizzo's talents and as a result, the importance of the extension? Maybe they're also upset they weren't able to clue people in to the fact that negotiations were happening?
  15. I probably would've kept Villanueva in for another batter, but I'm not going to complain that he put Russell in with a one run lead. It's not Sveum's fault Russell gave up two hits. I strongly disagree with that interference call.
  16. Wrigley's more fun with the wind blowing out.
  17. That was some BABIP luck there, but Schierholtz has been a heck of a sign so far. It would be nice if his platoon partner could get some help from the BABIP gods as well.
  18. The second best defensive second baseman on the field!
  19. It's also not enjoyable to watch our catchers play defense.
  20. What a strange guy. There is no way he returns to the majors as a Cub. If it was up to Sveum, I bet he'd have been let go already. Just let Vitters get more reps at 3B until Lake comes back.
  21. I don't care for the baggy pants + stirrups look ASU is showing.
